I was trying to do some background checking and searched in google for brent ambroise. It seems he is also on yahoo looking for help to solve the code.

The Letter

tfxkbu v jsuxekl v wjlzkd
mrmymnjazgsymnjg vv
mslnrg vvv mnjbr v zydij
hzsszrylxohtqenrragla
vv malfaww v huhqlijlxjyr
xfmrdsmaljsm

Well just an observation...but I wes looking at this and it seems to me that the v's are judt there to seperate or show the end of a word. the only reson i say this is that if you notice that there is 3v's in a row and i don't think there are many word with the same letter 3 times...

I could be wrong....just thought it may help. I'm still trying to figure it out

I agree, if it were a simple substitution cipher. In fact when I first saw those three v's I thought it was a dead give away of a URL (vvv=www). But the (constant) mention of keys leads me to believe it is a Vigenere cipher (which would eliminate the triple letter pattern unless you used a one-letter key), a notion I think was confirmed in his last blog, which I believe is a bunch of hints:

Quote:
Man I don't get this at all! This puzzle or whatever it's supposed to be is a long (excuse my french) ass code which I know nothing about. It talks about a key, I HAVE NO KEY! (Except for my house keys of course but I doubt that's what she meant) The only key I see is at the bottom of the page but it's just a picture, how can I unlock anything with a picture?! Alright this is tearing my hair out and I'm about ready to tear out my brain stem, take it to the nearest four way interesection and skip rope with it. (Maybe double dutch) ANYONE, ANYONE please help me with this!

I think the 'french' reference is to specify Vigenere, the mention of the key at the bottom of the page is to draw our attention to that, and the mention of 'four-way' intersections and 'double dutch' are almost certainly hints as well, since they make little sense otherwise. In fact, I think the blog could have been better titled 'Alright YOU don't get this!'

I've tried just about everything I can think of for a key. I've tried running it through twice with the same key and with different keys (in deference to the 'double' reference in the blog). I've even tried running the results through ROT-X because I thought the '23' in the postscript might've been a hint leading to ROT-23. I am running out of ideas.[/b]

I too thought it was a Vigenere cypher.

I have been trying stuff here to no avail. http://members.aon.at/cipherclerk/CipherClerk.html

other suggestions for the cipher key:

what if it as simple as "Key" or "the key", "Findtheambroisetreasure" ?

Matriarch?

I got a reply back from Brent on MySpace...

brentambroiseSPLATyahoo.com, I like to keep it simple. I plan on setting up my old AIM account again to answer any questions.

Any idea what that code means?

I hadnt seen his email addy in this thread yet, so here ya go..

i told him it has to be Vigenere and we are trying to figure out the keyword...

EDIT: Did anyone else notice in Aunt Sophie's letter to Brent:

In the second to last line above her name at the bottom, the word "Information" is spaced... it says "I (next line) nformation" its as if someone hit "enter" right after typing the "I"...

EDIT2: Another response from Brent.. (he's pretty good with responding, I like it)

Vigenere cipher? Well the only key I know of is that picture and I doubt it will jump to life. Solomon's key? I'm not quite sure myself. I'm heading over to my friend's house later, he said he's seen the symbol somewhere so I might have more info later

Thanks, guys.

we might be getting another clue as to what the symbol is, if his friend gives him the info he is looking for...

New post..and he is NOT happy...

Alright, I give up. Fuck this I quit! If people like you can't solve this, this is definitely out of my league. Maybe I'll save it for my son or something, it just isnt worth it. I got like one lead but I doubt it's anything. One of my Yahoo friends sent me something about alchemy but I don't get any of it. I asked my dad for info and he said he learned a bit about alchemy in his college course and he mentioned a few "scientists" like someone named dilderot or something, can't quite remember but it's prolly useless anyway but guys, I've pretty much given up myself. All there is is that it's some sort of symbol but I don't get it, you don't get it. Hell maybe she made it up in her senile state who knows by now. I wish she gave me more to go on.

If you guys want to give up now, I wouldn't blame you.

P.S. I think anyone's best bet is to find a site with symbols if it does exist but I couldn't find any.

So I have deduced that the scientists name is diderot not dilderot. But i still cannot find any connection between him and our cipher. Also, he is only vaguely related to alchemy....

What was the mythical Item called that the alchemists looked for that had the formula for turning base metals into gold?

The Alchemist's stone?

Diderot does not seem significant.

French alchemists:

Is Is Vigenere and it's not reversed. It just has a really long key. Technically, this is called a " one-time pad Vigenere Autokey" (Lines split by me)

I'll let someone else do the geography homework.

Somebody call him before he goes all emo. Wink

I know it seems like that was a bit unfair, buy given the way it was done, it wasn't that hard to solve(once you find the right starting point).

Edit: Corrected cipher type

 Witch Craft

So after reading the decyphered text I am wondering if this has something to do with Salem Mass. and the witch trials. Is there a way to put in those coordinates and find a place near there? I am new to these kinds of games...

yeah, I just sent Brent a Myspace mail, telling him rogi solved the puzzle and that it may have to do with the Wiccan Religion...

I asked if it were possible he is a descendent of a coven? or knew of any members related to such things...

(salems 15 minute ride from where I live.. coooool)

EDIT: BTW, Good Solve Rogi! I forgot to add that to the beginning.

EDIT2:

Quote:
Latitude: (degrees, minutes, seconds north or south)
Longitude: (degrees, minutes, seconds east or west)

so we have:

Quote:
(forty-three degrees, five minutes, forty-five seconds, north)

(zero degrees, two minutes, thirty-nine seconds, west)

"They persecuted us with fire but our mothers are the same."

Im gonna edit this again once I find out where these lead to...
