No. I got the top halves of pages 9-12. I think the only thing we all have in common so far is we're only getting the top halves of pages from the same newspaper from the same date (7/25/07). It seems like the paper either only contains sports news, or we are only getting sent pages from the sports section. Can anyone decipher the title of the newspaper? I suppose someone could visit Little Tokyo and try and track down a copy of this paper.

Can you confirm whether the back of the hat says "You Can't Drink Just Six." or "You Can't Just Drink Six."? I think the image on slusho.jp has a typo.

I got a hat too, and indeed it does say "You Can't Drink Just Six".

The Japanese newspaper I got were the top halves of pages 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22.

I scanned them all in and posted them at CloverfieldClues.com

I agree that I don't believe there are any clues in these articles, but it was just a fun thing to add to the box.

On page 22 the Japanese symbols with the question mark in the center of the page look alot like the symbols at the bottom of the slusho.jp page. It is probably just common words . . but may be worth a look!

OK OK I will go by during lunch then, probably won't have pics up until later tonight. But I will give a brief rundown on what I see when I get back to work.

Why are you calling it "oddities"? I think it's pretty stupid to say that, when this is another language, and might not be uncommon, especially when you look back at the Slusho.jp site, and how some letters were in the standard format (eg: 6.)

Look up about Kanji and Japanese before you automatically think these oddities are ZOMGCLUES!!11

yikes. that was harsh.

Anyhow, could anyone provide a high-res scan of the tickets from the ad? I managed a travel agency in another life, and I remember a couple things about reading the coded information on airline tickets. I did notice, for instance, that the tickets in the ad have the designator "OPATB2" in their margin. It's international code for "Off-Premises Automated
Ticket/Boarding Passes (Version 2)." That would be very odd for a ticket issued in the States, but I'm not sure about JAL tickets issued in Japan. I'm trying to figure it out, but the IATA (International Air Transport Assn.) documents are worse than lawyerese.

Right, so long and short of it: it'd be nifty if we could get a good scan of those tickets posted or linked to. thanks.

This was scanned at 300 DPI with descreen turned on. It is not any more legible in real life.

Thanks, Dennis. I saw that at your site earlier today, but I'd incorrectly assumed it was the scan, not the original, that didn't have much detail.

The OPATB2 designator doesn't seem to be a very promising lead. I think it may simply mean that the tickets pictured can be used as both tickets and boarding passes, which I guess is either new or not available in the States.

I know. I should run my own blog with sleuthing skills like that, right? Oh well. Back to the drawing board. Confused

Edited: And thanks for the avatars!

Christian at CloverfieldClues.com has determined that the Japanese newspaper is Japanese Daily Sun, a free paper from Hawaii.

Quote:

The Japanese Daily Sun is the most popular Japanese Language free newspaper in Oahu.
It is distributed to more than 200 locations including supermarkets, major tour desks, hotels, restaurants, retail stores and 24 publication dispensing racks on Waikiki's main street, Kalakaua Avenue.
The Japanese Daily Sun provides local Japanese residents and visitors from Japan with current up to date news covering sports, politics, health, entertainment, economy, a classified section and lots more.

It make sense since that's where Lost is filmed.

It's just the company that produced the clothing.

They have a sales office in Van Nuys. It's just fullfillment.

Can someone who received their shirt confirm if it was very tight as they warn on the site? I want to order, but don't know what size to get.

The newspapers are almost certainly real newspapers. The 'cloverfield clues' info also contributes to that notion. As such, I'm having a hard time seeing how they could have manipulated or used text in the newspaper to continue the game.

...Unless, of course, there's an ad in there somewhere that they specifically placed themselves as part of the game. I suppose that's barely possible. But why are they using a Hawaiian newspaper? Either they thought it would be 'japanese enough' to just pass off as something conceivably linked to the Slusho brand, while not expecting us to scrutinize it in detail, or it's a clue that's so far eluded us.

I agree- the why-Hawaii question is a good one.

Why do you think a clue in the ad space is "barely possible," though? Ads are paid content. Ads have been taken out in other ARGs. Why not this one?

They are a little more form fitting than normal, though it's nothing that drastically changes a L into a M.
