I AM a video editor who has cut a number of trailers (all for small Indies, you probably haven't seen any of them unless you do the festival circuit) and I was impressed even though I recognized most of the footage.

The cut between the Transformers meteor thing hitting the ball field and the shaking in Rob's apartment was brilliant. Big time kudos.

well done

I havent even seen this yet (can't watch at while at work) but i'm emailing myself the link, and checkin it out at home. I say 'well done' because i love that someone is actually doing something fun and constructive with this whole experience. I've been following all this insanity since just before the ethan haas fiasco, though never posted anything till now, and i've found nothing in the way of a personal contribution. Thank you for getting the ball rolling. Can't wait till some skilled artists post some sketch renderings of their vision of the creature.
Well done sir. Used to vid edit myself. I miss that stuff.
Ps> Screw you assholes who keep cutting down the opinions of others. We're all just having fun. If this is that important to you, then youre a nerd who could use some sunlight.

Really great work. I'm almost more motivated to see this movie because of this trailer than the original.

JJ Abrams and Co. should take a notion from this kind of work. It's great to wrap yourself in a mystery but when the mystery begins to outweigh the goal to be gained the mystery becomes unfulfilling.

While it is a very well done trailer created by splicing together footage from multiple trailers/movies, I think it's the exact opposite of the feelings this trailer is trying to convey. It's emphesising the the "epic" portion, that humanity is a big bad force that can take any monster, and we won't go down without a fight, but the original evokes feelings of hopelessness, and the viewpoint of the handheld camera only makes that more apparent.

All in all, though, a great job, very nice editing.

Good point AfterDystopia.

That's actually the kind of trailer I tried to make. A little more "mainstream" and perhaps even unoriginal since almost every action related movie trailer is kind of edited like that.

But I do prefer trailers like the original one because it is far more interesting and scary. It just really stands out.

Excellent work, Raptor. Worshippy

"Impressive... MOST Impressive."
- c'mon, do I even need to cite the source?

I didn't mean to sound down on the trailer, it was great, but with personal experiance in flash, movie maker, photoshop, and various other program, this is really not so impressive. It was a great trailer, but had you done a fake special effect of the creature or something it would have even been better. =)

Um. I don't know, dude. That would've just made it....cheesy.

Because at that point, this thread would be all about "Well, that monster...it was alright. It just didn't fit with the rest of the trailer."

The thing with cool special effects is, if you want to do it right, you better take some days off because it takes a lot of time to create.

Some people even say the effects in 1-18-2008 will suck because of the 33 million budget.

Though I could have added some additional camera shakes, crackling or other subtle disturbances.

A 33 million dollar budget is fine for special effects, i have seen some intense special effect videos made by people in their spare time, with no budget.
Even youtube has some really good special effect artitst that just goof off.

Yeah. But given that dude's strength is in editing, his mock-up might not've been of the same caliber.

You play to your strengths. If you want to see special effects mock-ups, then you go to the budding special effects artists.

Now, if you took one of these artist's work and spliced it with the dude's editing, you might have something stellar.

But...at this point...do we really want to see anything of the monster? Wouldn't the better teaser not show the frikkin' thing?

I decided to make a little tribute to the original trailer. It's combined with some other footage which I thought fitted together nicely.

Check the trailer at:

Hope you guys enjoy it. Wink

Fantastic work, especially getting the 'corrupted title' effect from the real trailer. Smile Nicely done.

The scene with the lights going off across the world, what was that from?

Thanks for watching the trailer everyone. I appreciate it.

And no, unfortunately it's not my job to make trailers. Any idea where I can sign up for that tinag222? Wink

Editing videos and creating fake trailers is something I just love to do.

I don't know where to apply, but I think videos like that are what help to get a person into editing. Other examples I think that are looked for are fan-made trailers like "Shining" (The recut trailer for The Shining which makes it a feel good flick) and Titanic: Two the Surface (fictional, duh Razz ).

It can be summed up as simply as like being a kid who saw this awesome magic trick, grew up and became a magacian and through that training he learned how the trick was done... Now the kid knows how it's done and it's meant he's lost the 'magic'* from the trick, in a sense.

*No pun intended.

That world wide black-out comes from the 10.000 BC trailer. Actually, all the footage comes from a few recent trailers.

I've seen that Shining trailer btw, it's indeed an awesome edit.
