[SPEC] Every monster needs to fight someone, or something... who will protect New York? In every monster movie i've ever seen, someone or something fights the monster. This is just as important as the monster itself sometimes (not really when its just the army). So does anyone have any guesses as to who the hero(s) is/will be? Personally i think its going to be the people from the trailer, some kind of secret with those people.

If JJ was smart he wouldn't release any info about who is fighting the monster(s) until the movie came out......if someone is fighting it at all.

I don't think there will be a hero. Ever seen read War of the Worlds? The "monsters" were defeated by bacteria. No heroes there, I'd assume. At any rate, I hope that Rob & co. or the army doesn't kill the monster. A little too trite, I think, just Godzilla again and again and again and again and again...

The people who will fight the monster will be the military. The people who will be running from the monster will be the main characters and everyone else.
I sincerely doubt Our Main Dude is going to suddenly figure out how to defeat the monster -- that would go against the entire grain of the how the film has been presented (up till now at least)

Even when godzilla did fight, there was still something he fought ie. mothra godora, etc... Why not this time. Why cant there be more than one monster. Maybe the group doesnt actually fight the monster, maybe They help somehow. Like the research guys from the last godzilla movie. they didn't do anything, but there has to be characters to follow

I just also thought, in the trailer. the explosion happened, then the head was thrown, that means the monster was moving away from the city. I saw a video that said it was impossible for the head to get there without it hitting something. I think one monster was fighting another one and moving towards it, and threw the head at the other monster who then reflected it. Thats how it ended up at Rob's apartment. Also, i think knowing why Rob was going to japan will be very significant.

Not every monster needs a anti-monster. Godzilla usually does fight a huge monster, but in 1998's godzilla movie he did not fight a monster, but rather the military.

Well, with the whole handheld vibe, I think this is supposed to be a more..erm.."realistic" monster movie, so there will be nothing fighting the monster but military.
We have confirmation that there's a fight.
In the callsheet, HUD checks out the fighting before catching up with Rob and Beth.
And then someone heard dialogue: Rob saying "look, there's another one!" (or something to that extent), which I imagine is referring to fighter jets (though I guess it COULD be another monster).
I think making this a monster on monster fight would be so cheesy. More realistically, what would be the chances of two giant monsters both being in New York on January 18th?

As said before, this is a realistic monster movie. This means the monster will probably win despite army efforts :-\
I will be really pissed if this movie has a "soprano" ending, or worse yet, "to be continued"

Ever seen Pirates of the Carribbean 2? The Matrix Reloaded? Saw? Casino Royale?
Anyways, I'm thinking the monster is killed by some ironic twist of fate, or it just dies from some internal chemical reaction after decimating the city. Or maybe, after squishing NY, it just moves on to NJ, or something, and then the movie ends. Speculation at this point is useless, however...
I'm really hoping there won't be a sequel or cliffhanger ending, though.
