I don't think he would have so much of changed history, as in I think that marathon still exists and happens, but that durandal's been stepping in and out of time for minor changes and little tweaks to the timeline.

To Tweek, Yeah I've always loved that bit. "Nothing happened during this time period. Seriously" Very Happy

Technically I don't think anything really would need to change, atleast surrounding the marathon itself. The marathon has already launched and the consequences of that action are set in stone as far as the haloverse is concerned.

Other stuff like the difference between the jjaro and assorted other things are harder to explain.

Keeping in mind that the marathon/halo connection is still speculation by alot of fans, only the guys behind the story bible at bungie know the answer and even then I can so see them thinking "oh jesus... they STILL try and connect the two stories. Damn you lot" Very Happy

I think they'd like to as well.

There's a continuity between all major Bungie games that I'd imagine they'd like to see carry over if at all possible.

Pathways Into Darkness and Marathon were part of the same universe, after all. Having Halo be another link would make it a veritable trilogy.

edit: ...that spans, get this, 7 games.

Just to clarify, that line ("2500's - This century intentionally left blank. Seriously, nothing really happened") is not some playful allusion to the events of the Halo series. The Marathon timeline has said that since it was put up in the 90s, years before Halo was conceived. The fans who put the timeline together literally could not find any canon references to the 26th century, so they left it blank. Smile

Of course the timeline's blank.

All that was happening on Marathon was people living, probably in stasis, while heading to another location, which would take 315 years, what would that time line be filled with.... "captain's log. 418.2.0.0.1 I went to the bathroom. The toilet paper got stuck to my shoe again..... note to self, modify door opening A.I. to check for that..... and also to automate flushing."...... When the Marathon was attacked it said it would take 93 years before a message of the attack reached earth, and since all we have to go on is the computer`s log, it would be possible for them to just not know about it. Also, the computer systems were attacked by the s`piht durring the pfhor attack, even the dates for when the marathon launched were screwed up. There was even a hundred year discrepancy for the launch time. Its completely reasonable that they occur in the same universe. But what I don't get is why you think that durrandal releasing the flood would help him in any way, he said that he realized the universe would end when it crashed down on itself.
Quote:
T-Minus 15.193792102158E+9 years until the universe closes!
All he had to do was wait, also, the only other thing that he could do would be, I dunno, move I giant planetary body so gravity would shift and it would end quicker. I'm halfway through reading marathon infinity, but its a mess, but afterwards, I'll know all there is to know (mostly) about the marathon trilogy. So unless any of us think that the ark is supposed to move the earth, or that he thinks that...... wait. he doesn't want competition, he alone wants to escape the colapse of the universe so he alone can become God! And how do you wipe out an entire galaxy? The Halo's!!! He would just have to make them mobile, or just wait to bring a reclaimer out of stasis to activate it so that when the universe does become close enough to collapse, 3 radii of the galactic center is the size of all things in the universe. It's all so simple now. Ok, go here and read the marathon chapter labelled durandal. AHHHHH its almost 5 in the morning now and I need sleep.

Wow. I actually followed that thread, spilled. Look forward to hearing your thoughts after you've wrapped.

But all I'm saying is, well, Halo takes place in the 2500's.

There's a hundred year gap in the known time-line of the Marathon series during the 2500's.

What better place to insert a new storyline within the universe than an otherwise unmentioned or unalluded to timeframe?

I'm not saying it's necessarily true, but that it's still a real possibility. (And if I ever say "I'm just saying" at the end of a post, y'all have permission to smack me)

uh oh

I don't mean to derail my own spec, but I remembered something and followed up on it, this could be AR..... I know its been said before, but I have some links between the message and the an email from AR. The email that was sent out to people on the bungie forums said
Quote:
The gears of the Universe spin further
and further apart.
Ever greater grows the gulf between souls,
And distance gives false hope of safety
But for the grim tidings this messenger bears:
The enemy is almost upon us
Closing in from all sides,
Moving faster than the light
it snuffs with its passage,
Time echoes with the news of destruction.
History winding back upon itself.
Waves of an army march this way in unison, Suffering and
corruption are its battle cries.
For I have known this darkness
and felt its embrace once before-
Horror best laid to rest
Yet a Journey must commence
Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame.
They will lead you to war, and perhaps, to victory.
and the message said
Quote:
Haven't you seen the signs, redeemer
The small, under-the-surface bridges between all this?
Those connections saved you before,
But this time you are on your own.
We are all on our own.
The distance gives a false hope of security=we are all on our own
and
Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame.=Haven't you seen the signs

edit: Ok not proof exactly, but links. Sorry for bad wording.

Um. What?

What's the "proof" exactly? I don't see anything except two quoted passages.

We're missing something.... AdjutantReflex told us to find the signs, we haven't.

The small, under-the-surface bridges between all this?
We need to find the links. What caused AdjutantReflex's appearance? What is SOTA's connection with Jonas Volman? Who are the FCC, how did they obtain information on the Forerunners? What are the bridges between all this?

Those connections saved you before,
We somehow found the pieces of the puzzle. We need to solve it. What are the words "respond to me" doing hidden within SOTA's site, within the mistakes? What are the significance of the words Do You Grok? What is the Castaway Theory and how did it trigger the founding of SOTA? The backstory should be revealed.

But this time you are on your own.
This time, we won't have phone numbers or Amazon pages coming from nowhere.

We are all on our own.
We need to find our way on our own.
