[QUESTION] Odd Halo 3 video on Gamespot

Well I'm back! Not that that holds any relevance as no one remembers me... I mostly sat back and observed everything. I must say after being gone for two and a half weeks ( Life can get real complicated folks XD) I felt painfully out of the loop. http://halo.wikibruce.com/Outline was my saving grace. I feel somewhat back in loop, and I feel extremely excited as I've watched my favorite story come to life. Anyways...done to the nitty gritty.

Normally I would not start a topic over me returning, but through observing what I've missed I have a few questions to add to our already mammoth list. But before I do, I want to clarify a few things that I have missed...

1. So there has been no activity on the SOA site? It was still somewhat of a big deal when I left... and now it seems... like old news...

2. Did the zune concept die as well? Many were interested in that...

3. And Adjacent Reflex? Has there been no activity with him?

Those are my questions regarding the old news... here's things I've found and are curious about that no one has addressed;

1. http://www.gamespot.com/video/926632/6174402/halo-3-halo-movie-clip-5 This is not Bungie's style... this video is somewhat random...out of the ordinary. (Though I loved every moment of it!) You will immediately notice the odd background effects...Gamespot labels it as Halo 3 movie clip 5, though there is no 1 - 4. Also, in case some of you don't know, another Halo 3 trailer is out... http://www.gamespot.com/video/926632/6174980/halo-3-official-trailer-3. It Also has an odd name, as there is no official trailer 2 on the site. Very odd.

2.This may be random, but it might hold relevance. There was a very famous meteor shower last night, I thought I should mention. It was a very big deal because the moon would be hidden due to it's stage in the cycle. The moon should be full soon I believe... and Jonas promises answers then...

Obviously my main reason for this thread is the mysterious video on gamespot, but I was hoping someone could address my other questions as well...

edited to add tag and to clarify topic ~rose

That would be Halo: Arm's Race. Which is a short film that has to do with the Halo movie.

It was shown at the E3 conference.

That second one was also shown at E3.

Ah, thankyou. You think they are not related to the game? Most importantly the Arms Race video? The sounds in the background?

I'm pretty sure that the Halo Movie was cancelled long before the E3 conference.
I think that they lost the director, as he didn't have sufficient experience with a film with such a large budget.

No. It's still in the works. Not totally cancelled.

The Halo Arms Race was the first of many Halo shorts being made by the Halo Movie director.

Doubtful it's connected.

Don't be silly of course we remember you.

Is Peter Jackson still on board as a producer of the Halo movie? I couldn't find the latest news on that.

No, I too vaguely remember a person using a name relating to some kind of god related to some kind of insect... Cool. Seriously though, welcome back. Try to stick around this time Wink

What makes me wonder is why people still seem surprised to find that the movie is in production. This is microsoft and halo. Microsoft isn't a company to give up, surely people would realise this by now.

Peter Jackson's still on board. He's still got another project coming down the pipe as well and the special effects team at WETA were the guys behind that short. Which Neil Blonkamp directed, so no they didn't dump him out of "inexperience" I think it's fairly well established that they want him on board.

Where do people get these strange ideas from? The movie died because a certain dumbass movie company didn't think they could make money out of it. Repeat after me "Dumbass movie companies make the baby jesus cry" Twisted Evil

Keep in mind I haven't been actively keeping up with non-halo game news either but bungie have mentioned neil and peter a couple of times in their podcasts.

baztard, recall that movies based on games typically don't do well, or are derided as awful adaptations by fans... it takes enormous dedication and the gumption to walk that fine line to produce a movie the hardcore fans will like, while still keeping it entertaining for the general public... given the enormous market for Halo, the risk I think is much greater that it's got to be done right. That, coupled with the fact that Bungie and MS want to retain more control than is typically given for movies licensed out for adaptation, it's likely not going to be easy finding a studio willing to pay into that risk. Reports were that the studios want to decrease Jackson & Bungie/MS's portion of profit (or something along those lines) - they wouldn't have it, and the studios backed out.

it's not a simple open/shut case of dumb studios not wanting to pick up the IP. It's just a sensitive matter of risk in developing a quality product. And dumb studios Razz

Yeah, I know.

The thing is, with Peter Jackson and Neil Blonkkamp behind the halo movie, I'm extremely willing to think that the halo movie could be a fantastic movie.

The less said about Street Fighter and Mario the better, but any studio bigwig that looks at the prospect of a movie done by a known hot property like jackson and cutting funding because of shit projects directed by hopeless unknowns? That's just a bizarre decision.

I also think that given the products that Bungie/Microsoft have released to promote Halo are almost all extremely good products that they know what makes halo good in any form, including movies. Athough that is highly tainted by the fact I am a bungie fanboy through and through. Very Happy

 Oh!
Really? Great!

It IS still in the works? Great!

I got my not-so-reliable intel from a friend... And I thought it was confirmed when IMDB said that it was "Posponed".

Hmm... Great to see that the same guy who did "Arms Race" is doing the movie. There were some great camera shots in there.

Even before it was announced, I knew Halo would make a great... Well, a great anything!

The storyline is just so complex and deep, it seems more fitting for a movie anyway Shocked

From a business perspective, it would still be a good idea to make the movie because it would make so much money. Every halo fan would go see it and probably lots of other people, too. With Peter Jackson on board, though, I think it could be actually really good. Halo has the potential to be a good movie because it has such an in depth story. I remember reading somewhere that it was today's genereration's star wars.

Despite Peter Jackson's involvement, I think a big part of Fox/Universal's sudden demand for a bigger cut was because of Bungie's insistence on keeping Neill Blomkamp as the director. They weren't ready to hand over a movie with a $135 million (and rising) budget to a director who'd as yet only made shorts and tv commercials (although some of his shorts are really good). Also Alex Garland's script apparently had to be rewritten.
I'm sure once studio execs see Halo 3's ridiculous sales numbers, someone will pick it up, but right now it's definitely on hold.
