 [TRAILHEAD?] Ego Leonard
or, giant beached Lego man produces trailhead

Reuters ran a story Thursday about a giant Lego man who washed up on the beach in Holland. The story doesn't mention the stuff written on the guy, but on the front, it reads "No Real Than You Are" and the back has the number 9 and "Ego Leonard" on it.

Googling Ego Leonard produces http://www.egoleonard.nl/ , which is a Dutch/English site about an entity called Ego Leonard that claims to be from a virtual world gone awry, and he is here to learn about our world and thoughts.

The site has a very ARG-y feel to it despite the seemingly rough translation, so I thought I'd bring to unfiction's collective attention.

edited to fix link~drizjr

That website is pretty weird.

This looks more like some kind of art projekt than an ARG to me. Ego Leonard apparently visited the Dance Valley festival July 14th, way before he was found in the water.

Question
But are the friends that you make there for real? And can you hold on to your true identity while also being someone else in the virtual world? Is it not more exciting to discover all the beautiful things in your own, non-virtual world, in stead of creating an ideal situation in this other, virtual world?

Aim
To (learn to) see our own, physical world with bright new eyes. See the beauty of it, admire it, and adore it.

I think it's more of an attempt to make people, who nowadays are more and more devoured by the virtual world, appreciate the real world.

But, I could be wrong.

Why are most of those messages dated in the fall of this year? They can't be written during that time. Unless legos can time travel! XD. Honestly I don't get what I'm supposed to do with this.

Here's what's in the meta description in the source code and the meta keywords content (html coding omitted since it keeps messing up the quote):

Quote:

META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="lego,zandvoort,legoman,legopop,giant,ego-leonard,ego,egoleonard,goeddoel,no real than you are,beache,dutch,skyline,groot,virtueel,secondlife"
META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX, FOLLOW"

I agree with all that, and it may or may not be a viral marketing campaign for Legos, I would think. But you know, Legos are probably one of the greatest toys of all time and they've unfortunately lost a lot of ground to video games (even though their own line of video games has done pretty well). I was very sad to hear last year that Lego is in trouble and might not even be around in a few years. I sort of hope it is for Lego--they're one big company that I have no problem supporting.

I think the site makes its point very well, whether or not it's an ARG, viral marketing campaign, or whatever. Something about it was very touching.
