Yes, I suspected that too but the French just doesn't say that so I thought I'd better stay true to the text. However changing a single letter from u to i (from vous to vois) would make it say that so it might possibly be a typo.

I also looked up Elena Crusichi from the poem above the code. She was a Venetian healer who was tried several times for witchcraft but (from what I can tell) never actually convicted of anything. Are there catecombs in Venice, or does Brent's dad's comment mean that the next step is to go to the ones in Rome?

I was just about to write about that. We now have clues that lead to Rome and Holy Catacombs.

I have read of a Catacomb that as of June of this year, has been thought to carry the greatest treasure of all time, The Holy Grail.

An Excerpt from: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1853654/posts

Archaeologist sparks hunt for Holy Grail

By Nick Pisa in Rome
Last Updated: 8:47pm BST 20/06/2007

An archaeologist has sparked a Da Vinci Code-style hunt for the Holy Grail after claiming ancient records show it is buried under a 6th century church in Rome.

The cup - said to have been used by Christ at the Last Supper - is the focus of countless legends and has been sought for centuries.

Alfredo Barbagallo, an Italian archaeologist, claims that it is buried in a chapel-like room underneath the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura, one of the seven churches which Christian pilgrims used to visit when they came to Rome.

Mr Barbagallo based his claim on two years spent studying mediaeval iconography inside the basilica and a description of a particular chamber, in a guide to the catacombs written in 1938 by a Capuchin friar named Giuseppe Da Bra.

The friar describes a room of about 20 square metres with a vaulted roof ceiling. "In the corner of a wall-seat there can be seen a terracotta funnel whose lower part opens out over the face of a skeleton," he wrote.

Da Bra then explains that giving liquid refreshment (refrigerium) to the dead was part of ancient funeral rites.

According to Mr Barbagallo, who heads an association called Arte e Mistero [Art and Mystery], this funnel is the Grail.

Speculation
sorry for the dbl post, the last one was getting pretty long

This is all just speculation at this point, but as I said before, with the clues "Rome" and "Holy Catacombs" it leads us to believe this treasure has to do with the Church, or something Christian related...

hence, my thought that it could be the Legendary Holy Grail.

Upon looking at the rhyme that Brent had showed us in one of his posts:

Quote:
This is just the beginning.
Another spot, another time.
Bergie, our bloodline.
It is not secret.

Our treasure is sought after.
Our only hope is to find what she left for us.
"Learn magic, for it is the only truth of this reality. Become magic, and you will become the essence of that truth." is what I've been taught.
Years, generations of the Ambroise line called stregoneria.

Healers said to curse the sick,
Rituals said to strike the innocent.
Elena Crusichi arrested and tried,
Later died.

Where is it?
Where is our prize?
Could it be?

The lines:

Quote:
Our treasure is sought after

This could mean that this treasure has been sought after for many generations.

This also would explain why when we first started this story, Sophie told Brent that many in the family had sought this treasure, but none were successful.

Quote:
Could it be?

This may be in reference to the treasure being something well known and unbelievable.

any thoughts guys? I know its still too early to tell, but its just a spec...

The Grail?

Boy, I really hope not. I mean, the stories are great, and this has been great fun so far, but can I really stomach ANOTHER Grail legend quest? Originality, that's what the kids these days want!

Re: Holy Grail?

I really don't think so. The message says that the gift was blessed by Mari, which doesn't really tie in well with the Holy Grail, which is a Christian artifact!

Wow. I dunno how but you seemed to have done it. Anywho, was she talking to her son? Maybe he was supposed to carry it out...I wonder what happened? Either way, it's left to me now. Sorry this can't be longer I have Latin to study up on cause I forgot most of it over the summer. (Okay, maybe ALL of it lol)

Great job, everyone! Brent had better share this treasure... Smile

its funny you say that, cuz i was talking to Brent last night and he sai dhe had to go cuz he had to do a lot of studying for LATIN classes in college.. he was giving me a hint and I wasnt quick enough to pick up on it... he told that to ForumLurker too i believe, right Forum?

So yeah, Latin it is.

UNLESS. Its a reference to the ROME clue earlier...

Rome
Holy Catacombs...
Latin

I believe we are looking at Ancient Rome here?

And I found a kinda sorta reference to the Grail and Mari the other day but it was fictional.. it was called the "Cup of Mari"..

i searched endlessly for a cross reference between basque culture and holy catacombs in Rome... I kept coming up with the same thing: "TerraCotta"..

So anyways I'm finally caught up...read all the pages today.

Oh and btw I'm great with French translation...and latin's ok, I can get the basic idea of it.

I'm coffeenews18 on AIM, coffeegirl18 on GaiaOnline (same on myspace) so say hi when you're on.

Oh and I'm wondering if the 'Gordian shape' was maybe a reference to the Gorgons (half human, half snake) or Medusa (famous child eating snake lady). These are all from Greek mythology. I'm just guessing although the mermaid or ancient vampire idea sounds interesting.

EDIT:I was just checking if the AIM s/n was working for Matron Lamia.

coffeenews18 (03:36:36 pm): hello
matronlamia (03:36:48 pm): Hi.
matronlamia (03:37:06 pm): May I ask who you are?
coffeenews18 (04:27:31 pm): I'm a friend of Brent's
coffeenews18 (04:27:38 pm): I'm trying to help
matronlamia (04:27:45 pm): I see.
matronlamia (04:28:01 pm): What can I do for you?
coffeenews18 (04:28:20 pm): i just wanted to say hi...
matronlamia (04:28:35 pm): Oh.
matronlamia (04:28:35 pm): Hello.
coffeenews18 (04:28:42 pm): lol
coffeenews18 (04:29:17 pm): so you read tarot and all, that's pretty cool.
matronlamia (04:29:41 pm): It's what I do.
coffeenews18 (04:39:53 pm):
So how did you find out about Brent? Did you 'see' something

matronlamia (04:40:21 pm): I found his question through Yahoo.
matronlamia (04:40:44 pm): The internet is a fascinating resource. You can find nearly anyone.
(04:45:43 pm)matron lamia is offline.

I've bolded what I think may be a clue....hmm, maybe a vague one.

I think I know why Brent kept mentioning the word Latin...

I dont recall anyone saying this, but if im wrong i appologize.

talking about Matron Lamia with Brent:

Quote:
(8:53:06 PM) Sm00thwun: i mean, her name alone refers to a mythological creature that eats children
(8:53:14 PM) Brentinthetent: And Latin for witch.
(8:53:36 PM) Sm00thwun: oh? i didnt realize that one. i guess im a little behind
(8:53:58 PM) Brentinthetent: I found it yesterday when I was reading. I told Lurker and he said you guys already knew.
(8:54:12 PM) Sm00thwun: hm.. i dont remember anyone saying it..

I dont think Brent even knew that we knew about the Lamia = witch thing.. that may be why he kept hinting to Latin.. it may be the only reason he was hinting to Latin at all, but then again, maybe not

NEW BRENT POST/PiC/PUZZLE

Quote:
Hey Guys:

I was looking through the journal and and I found a note from Aunty in it. Pop is using the printer and laptop for his office work but I typed it up and I tell you, it took a hell of a lot to do but here it is:

Oh, at past this point all the words are my aunt's to avoid confusion.

-Brentistryingtounderstandallthis

IGNORE THAT QUOTE IM AN IDIOT:

lol I thought the post was new ... i was just a little too quick for Brent, so I checked his MS after he uploaded the pic, but BEFORE he added the new posting...lol here it is:

Saturday, August 18, 2007

Fishy.

Hey Guys:

Quote:
Well for those who haven't noticed, I found a picture hidden between 2 pages in the book and it's labeled "Clue 2". I dunno what the heck to make of it (but that's what I have you guys for right......right?).

Also, for those I haven't addressed, if any of you have gotten my number somehow, through the net or anything and calling just to see if I answer, stop it. It's really annoying, I dunno if it's any of you but they called 4 times yesterday and 3 today and saying nothing and hanging up. It's a private number so I can't really trace it and when *69, no answer. So please, if it's one of you, just cut the shit.

-Brentisslightlysick

UPDATE: I Found a site explaining the picture:

http://books.google.com/books?id=MV25OktTqLIC&pg=PA185&lpg=PA185&dq=symbol+%22three+fishes+intertwined%22+stars&source=web&ots=sVbZqy0ROy&sig=VbcTk5W5Vu7-iuzuNNZFvAJjChw

THE Letters on the side of the pic are Roman Numerals.

to the left of the pic = 700

to the right of the pic = 53

That site is nice and all..

but this one shows the actual image...

http://altreligion.about.com/library/glossary/symbols/bldefstriqueta.htm

alittle bit down.. and it says(under the picture)..

Quote:
Triqueta of interlaced fish from the Roman Catacombs

So we have Roman Catacombs.. and 753 in Roman Numerals.. or. 700 on the left, and 53 on the right..

Now... that leaves this code...

The letters for the Greek word for fish, "ichthus" form an acronym for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour", (Iesous CHristos THeou Huios Soter). Seals and lamps in the catacombs of Rome bore this emblem as a secret sign.

MY site already had mentionings of Roman Catacombs Razz lol
