Does anyone still reading this thread have a copy of the geocache puzzle that also had the blocks? I thought it would be interesting to compare the two.

Since it was taken down at geocache at about the time Torment started, it would be fun to compare them.

that looks identical to the left side of the blocks we're at..

Though someone on the other forums said something about "sounds like child's play" I knew it had to do with something of course, I couldn't find this... So then the major question now is: how was this one solved?

The Child's Play puzzle wasn't solved. But at least with that one we know we need to end in Indiana.

I've given up trying to map the letters to alternate alphabets based on alternating instances of each letter because it just seems a really messy way of mapping. The lack of an obvious double alphabet key is another serious problem.

However, one way of making an elegant (well disguised but conceptually very simple) polyalphabetic cipher would be to map to alternate alphabets (such as a family of 2 or 4 different ROT alphabets for instance) based on the orientation of each letter. One drawback here is that it is not possible to unambiguously assign the orientation for some letters (although if you allow only 2 alphabet options the orientation ambiguity can be resolved).

There are no doubt many other simple systems for assigning to alternative alphabets.

One I tried (without success so far) was allocating to alternative alphabets (obvious ones like ROT) based on whether the orientation is like or unlike the preceeding letter. I suppose the same could be done using the preceeding slug as the reference point.

Another (somewhat simplistic) variation I tried was to assume that letters oriented the same way as the preceeding slug are plain text and letters rotated 90 degrees are caeser-shifted by one letter forward or back, while inverted letters are caeser-shifted by 13. I was pretty sure Grngecko wouldnt choose such obvious parameters and so it proved to be hehe.

I'm still muddling along on this track and just mention the above approaches in case they are of any interest to others who might think a polyalphabetic approach is worth further investigation.

"Rot" Room
Am I in the right place?

Got past the Bionicle/ChainOfDeath puzzle (Scarface) - thanks for the tips posted here. I was stuck trying to guess at it with a Bionicle font Laughing

However, I did kinda figure out that certain characters would be rotational indicators, so yay for me Laughing

Anyway, once I got it rolling in the right direction and the entire message made sense, of course I got the Solution Key (had to double check it since it was gibberish), and I'm at a page that only says "I'll Leave You In This Room To Rot!"

Now, from the few tips I've seen from about page 13 to page 34, I'm supposed to be seeing more than this one line? Someone mentioned seeing the Source?

Am I supposed to apply a series of Rotational ciphers on the page's source lines based on the rotations I made on the "Scarface" puzzle? I'm not understanding what's being said in the posts about this puzzle.

Was the Scarface keyword supposed to be gibberish or was I supposed to make a "real" word out of the letters?

I can't recall if the scarface solution was gibberish or not, but most of us got to the page you're at. When your mouse isn't in the middle of the screen, you'll see a bunch of lines of jumbled letters. They're a grey color and hard to see.

Yes, the Scarface keyword was gibberish. You need to save the image on the ROT page -- be sure to save the one without red lettering -- so left click on the "I'll leave you in this room to rot", the red words should have disappeared. Now right click and save the image. Open it in a photo editing program and adjust the brightness and contrast.

Would you like a hint or two? I can PM you what tipsila told me, which was enough for me to puzzle out the answer.

Thanks for the tip. I started to save the whole page (you get the image as well) because I thought I saw dark blue letters across the screen, but thought "nah, I'm just seeing things" Laughing

Mmmm organic spaghetti! Laughing

Slathered in Mayannaise
Simple Yes Or No question:

Reading through the thread I'm running across tips for puzzles beyond where I am, so I skipped a lot of posts (I at least like to try them myself for a while)

So regarding the Maya thing, should I be in
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Texas?

Ok, I think I figured out where I'm supposed to be - didn't quite know how Google wanted it formatted (is there an easy online GPS translator/formatter?)

Now to find out what the characters at the end of the two lines mean. I assumed polar directions, but the "definitions" I've found so far don't match the pics he used.

Maya have a minute of your time?

I must be doing something wrong here.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
after finally getting what I feel are the correct coordinates AND getting them in a format which Google will not reshape, I'm looking at an empty, unmarked patch of ground in Brazil - hell and gone from the Yucatan Peninsula, which means no Mayans.

That is definitely the wrong place. Is your other culture math correct? That one comes out in what is considered a standard format.
