[SPEC] y2K's overall theory on what BA has been doing.

Quote:
I've got a different theory for you. I wish I could claim it was all mine, but it took a fresh perspective from an old friend to make it all click. Try this one on for size. Let's call the overall boil & malware shuttling system that we've laid out the "Chorazos Cypher". Others have noted that we seem to be missing something, that the cypher could go awry unless it has a "mothership" it can check in with occassionally.

B.A. is the missing piece of the Chorazos Cypher. She is that "mothership," but the mothership is really a beacon: a pattern of 13 classifieds in a variety of different cities. You'd have to know who's posts to watch and then watch them across multiple cities across time in order to capture the beacon. You'd also have to know it had a pattern. Sometimes that beacon is completely explicit, at least enough for us to start poking at the ports it led to with the "lucky fives" it also provided. There might be more implicit messages in there as well, metaphors about the operations [urlof the network (which might eventually make us think that the content of the ads might be describing something technical through symbols like Rose has suggested.) It might not even take human intervention, we've built scrapers and spiders already as Sentries and we didn't even know what we were doing.

Which is easier to believe: that B.A. is somehow having prophetic dreams through which can she can pluck passwords from thin air? or that she is a communication beacon for the Chorazos Cypher that provides an alternate or supplimental information chain?

That's not even the interesting part. The really interesting part is the similarity between the "shuttling and stashing" system in the Chorazos Cypher and the way we ended up being the conduits of a message from DC to B.A. that took place in real space. DC left a message for B.A. at the psychoics shop, and we happily swarmed like little malwares from the classified beacon to pick it up. And then we delivered it on to B.A. via alternate means? And what was that message? DC had us give B.A. the finger. I don't think you can get much more explicit than that!

Once we accept that B.A. is a Chorazos beacon, "her" relationship with DC becomes fascinating. Imagine that DC wanted to blackmail Chorazos or defect from Chorazos, as hypotheticals. How would you protect yourself if you were DC? By getting the wrong people (us) interested in the hidden beacon and hope their pursuit of what it means provides you cover to do something else. Increase your odds by hitting several different communities (redundancy). If Chorazos doesn't do what you want, you up the ante and show the bloodhounds (us) how a physical exchange works -- see, Chorazos? Do what I say, or I'll expose more of it to them! I'm stabbing in the dark at what that something else is that Chorazos is supposed to do or not do, but whatever it is requires DC to have leverage over or pressure on Chorazos. That suggests a conflict.

Maybe, in fact, it was DC's decision to use us all as leverage or cover that attracted Chorazos' attention to our servers at all? Which means they've been squabbling with each other for at least nine months (if, say, the threat to send information to us was what made Chorazos decide to compromise our server.) That is a polite way of wondering if "the enemy of our enemy is rat bastard in his own right."

This leads me to a statement that is going to make Dante faint like a Japanese school girl at a boy band concert. I'm going to call in a dream to B.A. tonight. I'm working on it as we speak. My goal is to make her think I'm a lost little Chorazos sheep asking for a quick beacon home. The kind of message I could imagine DC sending that created the scurry of Alphabet City information. I imagine it is a code way of saying, "I have a message that absolutely has to be shuttled instantly: what is the fastest way to make that happen?"

And I bet our little Tokyo Rose gives us a nice new nugget of something. A "lucky five". Another physical drop location. Maybe something we've never seen before. Maybe she'll just give us the finger. Once I finish getting it cooked up, I'll share it here.

But I want to mention it looks like some of you aren't fully sharing yet. I see random links to spreadsheets predicting future targets, appearing out of nothingness. I want to keep sharing, and not just because you tend to beat me up when I don't. But I can't help feeling that there might be someone lurking here and not sharing that isn't just not playing for our team, but is in fact playing for the other team.

I'm keeping a list of some of those people. I hope that list keeps getting smaller instead of larger. I'm trying to hard to play well with others.

This makes me happy because I've been searching for patterns since this game started - without much luck either.

maybe I'll look at them again.

I sent Art the following PM shortly after he came back:

Quote:

Hi Art,

I was talking to Marie A while back and she mentioned that you guys used to have a dude named Peter that rolled w/ the sentries a while back and had a PHD in some heavy computer deal that neither she (nor I) would probably understand. She mentioned that he was doing some sort of research project, and that you had a way of contacting him.

It might be a tad intrusive, but do you think he might be able to help with the lucky5 problem?

-Ob

So my assumption is that his old friend is every sentries old friend, peter. Smile

PS - I HAVE INTERWEBS AT HOME AGAIN. YAY.
