@soci: Editted, for your convenience.

And in any case, if any other events do happen to pop up in the NY area, be sure that I'll be there to document it as best I can. I'm sure there are several others out here as well that will be doing the same.

Probably not significant, but one thing i noticed from the trailer is the red banner of "USA Shaolin Temple" on the left side of the street. Here's a snapshot i just happened to take on a recent trip to nyc. The address is 446 Broadway.

Well... CRAP. Looks like I have something to do tomorrow before I go to work, don't I? I'll take a REAL camera with me this time as well, not my dinky little phone-cam.

Actually, from what I understand, they did exactly that with TLE.

Wait, what? Seriously? I was only involved with TLE for about 50% of the game, but I don't recall any real-world locations or events involved, with the obvious exception of the Rachael Blake event at SDCC06. Do go on.

Well, I didn't play it, but according to Lostpedia, you needed to be able to travel to specific locations in order to get apollo candy bars:

Not only that, but there was the infamous HansoExposed.com "Glyph hunt", where secret codes were hidden in the real world - some in New York, LA, Australia, etc...

Here is an example:

 Set vs Real World
Set clues?

One interesting difference between the real life location and the set
is the Textiles sign.

Real life, it says "OPEN SUNDAY" below Textiles.

In the trailer, I believe I see a phone number below "Textiles"

anyone else?

It looks like everything below "Textiles" is obscured by a building.

I had originally posted this on another forum, but thought it might be helpful in this discussion:

----

The aerial view looking south on Broadway, with the 401 Broadway building and the PENN TEXTILE CO sign is here.

If you scroll the map up (continue north up the street), you will see several buildings on the west side that are in the trailer. When you get to Grand Street, there is a parking lot on the north/west corner... this seems to be the location of a new building on Broadway, and is also in the trailer (at 1:30.17 - on the right, behind the yellow street sign). You can see the building on Goolge maps' street view here.

This new building looks like it's the last building in the shot that actually exists in the location on the trailer - the buildings north of it are not visible when you travel up the street in the Google map street view.

If you take a look at the leaked pictures of the Cloverfield set, specifically the image with the green screen in the background, you will see that this is the view of the street that is visible when everyone runs out of Rob's apartment, just north of that new building on Broadway. I would assume that if there is a clue at street level, it would probably be contained on this set somewhere.

--
From the Google map link, if you continue SW on the street, you will see the 401 Broadway building approach after a few streets, and you should pass several buildings that look familiar from the trailer.

The street sign that reads "DEAD DEAD" seems like it should be part of the set revealed in the images at the url above.

Thanks for the patronization there, chief. I did the legwork for the benefit of the ARG community, not for sardonic comments liks yours and lookatme's. If you don't like it, then don't comment.

wow didnt think you'd take it that way. i was joking man relax,
I went down there too looking for billboards or signs, posters, I even walked into the lobby of the 401 building and tried to figure out which building rob and his pals might have been in. no bueno. except for the sublymonal.com billboard on my way down canal back to the highway

it was dark out and didnt even have a camera, it was a spur of the moment thing. anyway at least I know that I didnt miss any 800 pound gorillas cause of the time of night I decided to pass by on my way to get some food.

Wow IAmTheQuestion?

don't bother. it will just waste space in this thread, they are getting long enough. I was kidding around with a fellow new yorker she probably feels left out. just for laughs she might want to look up the meaning of the word arrogant, cause admitting I failed or admiting I was unsuccessful in finding something sort of nullifies that don't ya think?

anyway i had a thought about the history of those streets in the trailer, while it's not exactly on canal street, it is just inside of Chinatown as my friend here stated, and definitely on broadway

A super old timer I met when I was really young, told me stories about new york in the old days, things such as how street lights were maned with people whos job was to hang above the street and change them,
how canal street was exactly that, a huge canal
and broadway was a native american trail, and a sort of track that deer used to run on, even when cars were just startign to appear all over the place.

I was thinking perhaps, it may mean something, if this monster/alien or whatever it is is really old and maybe has been slumbering, or egg sitting at the bottom of the ocean, or maybe they have really long lifespans, and gestation periods, so the eggs take like 100 years to hatch and babies that were left behind for protective measures at the bottom of the ocean, or maybe the hudson river right next to the base of liberty island, and now they are hatching, so the thing that tore off the SOL head, was like a new born looking for momma. IDK. .. but anway check out the history of those two streets.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadway_%28New_York_City%29

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canal_Street_%28Manhattan%29

one last thing, little italy meets china town at canal, so you can get some eggrolls, then walk across the street and order a pizza, kinda neat.

thanks for the pictures

Nice work on the New York scouting. And, also great to see more New Yorkers playing ARGs at unfiction. The more the merrier!

Information from the Lost Experience

During the Lost Experience ARG, the Apollo Candy Bars assumed much more importance; they were being handed out at specified locations at specific times (as mentioned on the official website, or by Rachel Blake, the ARG's main character).

FWIW, I thought I'd post a couple things I saw around 401 Broadway when I was in Manhattan today. I don't have a transflash card for my phone yet, but the pics would not be helpful. What I did see on the building (which has been converted to condos), is a couple interesting bills posted:

A sticker with the website www.ithinkyourswell.com (this site is nothing right now, and I think it's an old sticker)

More interesting were these:

A sticker with Motley Bird logo on it. Looking this up on google, we find that it's a new energy drink from a Swiss company called Kama. I don't believe it's available yet. Sort of interesting site at motleybird.com, but nothing related to the movie.

A posted ad for Java Pop. This is also a newish drink; some sort of coffee based soda (I like coffee and I like soda but I don't like the idea of mixing them. This is also a real product, but the company doesn't have a website that I've found.

I just think it's possible that while the Motley Bird thing is pretty ubiquitous in this area of town, the specific placement here and of Java Pop (which I didn't see anywhere else) mean that at least the people doing that guerilla marketing stumbled upon the Cloverfield thing and put their ads on 401 just to tease people like me (given the whole slusho thing). I would be amazed if either of these companies wound up doing a tie-in with a real slusho product, but who knows?

If you do go back to that location, I think you should walk further away from the 401 Broadway building. From your pics it seems like you might have been too close to accurately match up the buildings in the trailer with the real ones.
