dammit archaic!! lol youre lucky i had to sign off! lol..anywho..

found this.. more info..

Quote:
Archaeologists say they have unearthed Lupercale—the sacred cave where, according to legend, a she-wolf nursed the twin founders of Rome and where the city itself was born.

The long-lost underground chamber was found beneath the remains of Emperor Augustus' palace on the Palatine, a 230-foot-tall (70-meter-tall) hill in the center of the city.

Archaeologists from the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Rome Municipality came across the 50-foot-deep (15-meter-deep) cavity while working to restore the decaying palace.

i wonder what we are supposed to officially find... was it the lupercale.org site? or was there something else we were supposed to find..

lol see this is where it PAYS to befriend the weird people (ie Matron Lamia).

I did some asking when it came to triquettas to matron, as i showed you in my last post. I signed on today and I got a mail from her with a link to a code deciphering website called: (check spoiler!)

upon searching this site, I noticed a form of Vigenere Cipher that allows you to use numbers as keys instead of letters. Bingo, right? Not quite so easy, yet. Here goes..

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The name of the site is called: http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/

On this site, there is a form of Vigenere Cipher called "Gronsfeld" which allows you to use Keywords that change the alphabet, AND numbers for the actual key. Confusing? Yeah I think so too. Fooling around with it a little, I used this:

Alphabet Key: Triquetta
Number key: 7 5 3

decoded message: ATLUPERCALEFOLLOWTHEMBACKWARDS

AT LUPER CALE FOLLOW THEM BACKWARDS

So whatcha think it means?!

thank yoooo matron!

Ack and I was just researching....boo. I'm really happy you cracked it though.

EDIT: Talked to Matron Lamia, it was just a rehash of what we know from before.

Quote:

matronlamia (07:21:24 pm): I'm sure once Brent learns of this he'll find something relevant in Sophie's journal.
matronlamia (07:21:40 pm): By the way, have any of you been calling him recently?

So Brent should keep looking through Sophie's journal...

Ok so whomever are prank calling him stop...you're scaring people.

for those of you who want to see the full national geographic article, heres the link.,..

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/01/070126-rome-palatine.html

EDIT: Furthering Archaic's Geneology search, and skipping all the names in between, the names at the top of the Kings of Alba Longa Family Tree are:

Quote:
Anchises, Aphrodite/Venus and also, Latinus

odd, another reference to the word Latin.... maybe theres more to the word than just a simple meaning for Matron's name..

EDIT2: Ok, upon further checking and greek mythos, the list goes even further back than I thought.. the page here shows it:

Quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Themiste

and the top names here are:

Zeus/Jupiter, Electra, and Teucer

and we all know that zeus was the son of the Titan, Chronos.. so lets see how much further I can get..

UPDATE3: Ok, the Earth (Gaia) and the sky (Uranus) were the parental units of Zeus... hmm Gaiaonline? Coincidence?

We should contact Brent soon about the cipher...I told him we cracked it but I'll let the first person that solved it to give him the actual answer.

Found it!

I found the next clue (ironically labeled Clue 3..) in the near back with the blank pages. I'll post the picture up in a few. It looks like something from Rome again.

About the phone, it stopped yesterday but happened about a half hour ago, I heard a whisper or breathing but couldn't make out words. So once again, IF it is one of you guys, please please stop it, mother is even freaking.

-Brent

:)

Deffo greek. And that's a statue of the she-wolf nursing Romulus and Remus. I saw it on one of the pages I was researching for their geneaology the other day. I'll get on the greek.

EDIT: it's not making sense, but I'm working distracted. I'll keep plugging.

I have my lj buddies on it....I'm getting them into ARGs a wee bit. They're great with languages...a couple are Danish, some are Russian, a few can read Latin (better than me which is great).

So yeah...

DANGIT

I know I can get it, because it's not difficult, just a matter of transcription (it looks like, anyway). Problem is it's not clear, and I have no way to embiggen/clear it at work. Can someone embiggen the text and clear it up for me?

OK i figured something out about this new code.. i'll add it to a spoiler because it pretty much leads us to an answer (i hope!)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The message seems to be written in a font called "symbol"... for some reason, I cant copy and paste that font inside this post.. but check it out guys, the letters match perfectly..

I just got on, so Im going to work on it right now. I told you guys first before decoding it, in case I have to go suddenly and cant finish it, at least you guys can pick up where i left off..

dun dun dun! im on a roll lately lol well.. i dont want to speak too soon.. we'll see..

ALSO: I forgot to mention this, but what we DO know of the new picture is that it is of the wolf, Lupercale, and the two babies, and future kings of Rome, Romulus and Rhemus.

Smooth, smooth!

First-
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I've been trying symbol, and you're right, it is the same, but I can't make out some of the letters in teh pic. I was hoping for an embiggened version. What I did was type A-Z in Times New Roman, then underneath I typed a-z lowercase in symbol, then under THAT I typed A-Z uppercase in symbol (because they yield different characters). I just can't see some of the letters in the pic clearly.

Second- DUH. I already SAID that it's the she-wolf. Don't you READ? lol

wow a partial solve and a trout all in the same post...lol only I can accomplish something like that...lol sorry archaic

so far, using the symbol font, it looks to be another code that we get out of it, but this time in a regular font so we can input it into our decoder rings lol

EDIT: Is it me, or do some words look to be in normal font already?

I KNEW I WASNT CRAZY: The name "Numitor" is clearly written within the code..

checking wikipedia, this is what I came up with for that name..

Quote:
In Roman mythology, King Numitor of Alba Longa, son of Procas, was the father of Rhea Silvia.

He was overthrown by his brother, Amulius, and thrown out of his kingdom where he had ruled. Amulius also murdered his sons, in an effort to remove power from his brother for himself. His grandsons, however, Romulus and Remus, reinstated him after killing Amulius.

[Family Tree shown below text]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numitor

ALSO: The names Virgil and Sybil are clear as well...

Virgil: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgil

Quote:
Publius Vergilius Maro (October 15, 70 BC – September 21, 19 BC), later called Virgilius, and known in English as Virgil or Vergil, was a classical Roman poet, the author of epics in three modes: the Bucolics [commonly but less correctly called the Eclogues], the Georgics and the substantially completed Aeneid, the last being an epic poem in the heroic mode, which comprised twelve books (as opposed to 24 in each of the epic poems by Homer and that became the Roman Empire's national epic. Since Virgil depicted his hero Aeneas seeking advice from his father Anchises in the underworld, Dante Alighieri made the shade of Virgil his own guide for his pilgrimage through the inferno and part of purgatory in his own epic poem The Divine Comedy.

Sybil: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybil

Quote:
In antiquity, the oracular seeresses of the Ancient Near East and the Mediterranean were referred to by the Greek term "sibyls". In modern times, when "Sibyl" is adopted for a woman's name, the conventional spelling is "Sybil".

im not sure if this sybil was the one intended though.. there was mention to a sibyl in virgil's wikipedia page and ill show you an excerpt/link below..

Quote:
The Cumaean Sibyl was the priestess presiding over the Apollonian oracle at Cumae, a Greek colony located near Naples, Italy.

The word Sibyl comes (via Latin) from the ancient Greek word sibylla, meaning prophetess. There were many Sibyls in the ancient world, but because of the importance of the Cumaean Sibyl in the legends of early Rome, she became one of the most noted and famous, often simply referred to as The Sibyl.

In the art of Michelangelo (shown to the right) and other painters, her powerful presence overshadows every other Sibyl, even her younger and more beautiful sisters, such as the Delphic Sibyl.

There are various names for the Cumaean Sibyl: Amaltheia, Demophile, Deiphobe, Herophile, or Taraxandra. (In Virgil's Aeneid, she is called Deiphobe, daughter of Glaucus.)

ok, now, back to the code to see how these are all related..

No worries, smooth. Smile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Some of the words ARE decoded already. Or else they're not meant to be decoded. Like Virgil. It could be the key for a cipher of some sort, or it just wasn't encoded in the first place. The not encoded thing doesn't seem likely, though, since we've had proper names encoded previously. Why not encode the whole thing?

ok due to the quality of the picture this was extremely difficult so Im showing this only as a jumping board for people to work off of. When examining the picture in zoom, this is what I translated it to.. and remember, it still needs to be decoded again so... here goes..
