Theory
This may actually be making sence. Possibly, A smaller version(s) of the apparent big monster gets suck in the river thames, for all to see. Its just there in the open. It kills a few people, causes some destruction, and the govt. takes it out, and covers it up. All thats left is a home movie. Years later they discover slusho, at the bottom of the ocean around england(also shot by handheld camera). While removing this from the ocena's depths, the siencetists wake up a massive monster, which is now looking for its child(ren). It goes to NY, where the slusho is being preserved at extremly cold tempatures, until rob leaves for japan and takes it with him on his plane. Watch the movie the Host. Its a good movie, and i think it will be simalar to cloverfield or whatever the name is.
Best theory out there

That is pretty interesting. Maybe something important happened on 1-20-04?

also

one of the possible explanations of the whale coming up the river is...

"The reasons for the whale's presence in the Thames were unclear. A number of possible causes were raised prior to the post mortem:

Illness. Some previous whale strandings are believed to have been caused by physical ill-health, resulting from factors such as parasite infections or pollution, which can disorient whales and cause them to strand themselves in shallow water."
(wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Thames_whale )

the parasite in relation to the speculative name of the monster and pollution in referance to slusho (toxic waste or the secret ingredient at the bottom of the sea)

this may be a bit far fetched but all well.
