Thanks for the image LiquidTouch.

Well, the map gets crazier every update. But still - what does it all mean?
The clouds now move faster, Chicago is engulfed in black smoke - maybe this is a clue for the Chicago fire? That was in 1871. Maybe we just moved forward in time 10 years (weren't we at 1861 last update?).
Also, the borders are even crazier, and at one point, only the corner parts of the borders remain, while all the other lines go haywire for a few seconds.

Tom - what are you trying to tell us?!

ETA: The whole Chicago fire thing got me thinking. Last time, we theorized that the map was circa 1861. Maybe now the map is circa 1871. Maybe those border markings (only the junctions), we're the first attempts to redivide the states around 1871 (once again, I suck at American history, so could someone please confirm/kick my ass?)

ETA2 (I keep finding stuff and I don't want to post multiple times): So, the Chicago fire took place on October 8, 1871, or 16 Mol 3 Lamat. The next time Mol and Lamat intersect is September 7, 2007 (16 Mol 9 Lamat). Maybe this is also a key date... Once again, I don't know what we should do with this, but I'm putting it out there. Maybe it will give someone an Idea

Het, I was thinking along the same lines regarding the Chicago 'fire'.... 1871. I'm wondering if he's "progressing" us... or if he's correcting us, in other words.. were we supposed to be looking at a timespan, or was the intention all along to point us to 1871?? I guess "time" will only tell (pardon the pun)... next update on 8/27 ??

I've posted some screen shots of the newest maps at the tooman wiki here: http://random.despoiler.org/index.php?title=Trailhead:Tom_Tooman#Trail

Anyone with stuff to add, please feel free to jump right in...

I like the "he's correcting us" theory, ncfriend. So I looked for any significant Mayan events in 1871, and lo and behold:

Quote:
1871 "Queen" María Uicab of Tulum (Mexico)
A Mayan woman living on the Yucután Peninsula, who was known as the patron saint of Tulum, and was given the title of Queen. In 1871 the sacred Mayan ruins of the city of Tulum became an Indian shrine where a "talking cross" was set up, and placed in the care of Maria.

Big props, ncfriend. I'd forgotten about the despoiler wiki, honestly- hell of a job keeping it up to date.

I have more information we could add- but it's baseless. I have images that were found in the flash file, but I have no idea where they come from. I think it'd be bad form to post them with no way of explaining how they were gotten to without decompiling.

Notice that when the map goes haywire you see these little markings in specific places. They look like small Ts. It kind of looks like a constellation. Or maybe it is strategically placed in those spots on purpose.... What could they mean?

I was thinking that its a time progression as well based on everything so far. Aztec calender glyphs and updates showing a seeming progression of time.

If it is 10 year progressions every 5 days we got a long way to go before we catch up to today...

I think the "T"s are remnants of the American borders that go glitchy. Can we try using those to line up with the dots from the barcode to overlay them. Maybe the barcode dots are points on state lines?

I am curious what the green lines represent compared to the other colors?

Also does any american history buff know if the new borders are borders of any native tribes/groups? I am wondering if one is the "whitemans" borders and the other are native borders? I am not sure what the tribes were like in that area.

Also I wonder if the events its showing is a look into the future as well as the past sort of a history is going to repeat itself kinda deal....

Just some ideas nothing concrete.

Topeka and Kansas City, Kansas also seem to be "on fire", but I haven't been able to find a large scale fire reported in 1871. The black cloud for them is quite larger then the one over Chicago, also.

Borders
1871

I'm not so sure about the 1871 reference. I'm aware of the Chicago fire being in 1871 but, the borders of those states were already set by then.

I get the feeling its a look into the near future. Perhaps 2012 which is when the Mayan Calander ends because its the end of the world....Hopefully this ARG won't progress this slowly until then. Meanwhile, I can't get those barcode dots off my mind....

It's bugging the hell out of me as well. It's the one part of the stickers we haven't figured out...

Stars

Well, I know some of you aren't in chat so this may be new. At one point we thought we may have found a match to the stars in the barcode and a Lakota star formation but, I haven't been able to find an ACTUAL image of the stars so I cant determine if they actually line up or not. If they do line up then The Pleiades are missing out of our version of the stars.

Pretty sure this is indeed a puzzle

Well, this day brings forth a new minor update. The small border junctions from the previous update (the little _|_ shapes) are gone. Instead, there are 5 green + signs that appear, and then gradually fade away. Here is a screen cap I took with nifty little red circles to show you where the +s are.

OK, this update has convinced me to a 99% certainty that this is a solvable puzzle.
Thank you Giskard for pointing this next one out:
Please refer to http://www.unfiction.com/compendium/2002/11/15/wheregif/
Where you will read a tale of heroic glory...

Basically, it's a "puzzle gone wrong" story. The similarities have led me to believe that the PMs are now desperately chucking clues at us, making the answer a little more obvious each time.

I've been quietly lurking, but I've had enough. I'm off to find Mapmaker and drag him by his heels into this and see what he can make of it.

With a name like Mapmaker, he has to be good. Smile
