That's a lot of speculation based on foggy memories, though.

If that wasn't a pun it should have been, seeing as how Lost fans have nicknamed it the Fog Monster or Foggy for short. Razz

Yeah, right after Godzilla it was the second theory being kicked around back
in early July and we all agreed it would suck. Cool

ill say this again

Ill say this and many people may dismiss this b/c we all have our own ways of doing things and thats fine by me at least. I said earlier, but then we just started to make jokes, we need to relax. Remeber this is a "game"/marketing thingy that parmount put out, and my guess is as good as any but ild say this film comes out sometime in Januray. We have plenty of time to figure this out, think about what the roar means instead of listening to it 100 times. Its not the roar, its the roar's meaning. seriously, take some time off step away from the computer and go outside or something. Think about it, its meaning that is. JJ said the roar is the biggest clue or something like that. I think he meant the significants of the roar, not the roar itself. Please stop talking about how much the roar scared you, we all pooped ourselves. Instead of analyzing the roar THINK ABOUT IT.'

pegassissy, I agree with you that we do tend to over analyse things around here, but when this is the first new thing in a few weeks, it's something to get excited about. Right when we were saying that it was lame that there were no updates in a while to the website, bam, we get what we wanted. Let us have our fun for this while, and then when we get bored with it, we'll start to hear the Voltron theories again, and then something new will come to us. It's a cycle.

I do not think it's the Lost Monster. Not only would that be lame, it would be extremely lame. The roar and the Lost Monster's sound sound a little similar, but the Lost Monster's sound is a little more mechanical.

I had just thought of something. The roar of the monster found on the page corolates to the first picture. How many times did we have to reload the page to find the roar? One time. Perhaps this is just a coincidence, but has anybody tried reloading the page twice? Maybe a sound or video or something will pop up corolating to the second picture.

(Oh, and for the person who said the sound freaked out their dog/cat/I forgot what it was: I played the sound clip very loudly right next to my sleeping cat and it didn't even move.)

i think the roar goes with the first picture we got and the girls are looking at the sound source. maybe we'll get a new sound for each pic? and then a few seconds of vid for the sound and pic?

woah got ahead of myself there, just an idea.

Hmmm... I thought I had typed "It's seems like it's a general concensus here" or something to that effect before I said "The roar of the monster" sentence. I guess I thought of it and never typed it. This is what I meant to say. I didn't mean to say it in a way that suggested that I came up with the idea on my own.

Yeah, foggy (the pun was unintentional--it must have been subconscious) would suck as a monster, no doubt. I mean, it's a security system, right? That'd be like a rabid car alarm attacking LA. Or something. Yeah....

I just thought the sounds were similar, and now I'm somewhat relieved to hear they're not.

So, pegassissy, what directions would you like this conversation to go in? I mean, I'm totally open to other ways of interpreting or finding significance in that sound.

The almost human sounding inhale at the beginning - creepy as shit. I don't deny the possible whaleness of the rest of the sound, but that intro is weirdly, wrongly humanoid.

What exactly is going on at that clipped-off end? It sounds like a scrape, a very brief, cut off scrape.

Thank you for asking. Where would I like to see this go? I dont want to see people analyze the roar. If JJ wants to give us a clue hes not going to hide it in a roar where we have to play it backwards and 6 octaves down. You know where it should go? The significants of the roar. I want to know what it means. Why did jj give us this? Is this leading to something? How long to the next clue, and finally where does this roar fit? ie a picture on 1-18-08.com or what

i heard it too which made me think the roar was taken from the trailer where you can hear the SOL but that would'nt make sense or would it?

hey does anybody know if filming is done in L.A.

sound "almost human" but not quite

Going on the theme here about the sound having that inhale before the roar on 1-18-08.com It got me to thinking about what could make a sound like that. It reminded me of the recola commercials with the large alpine horns. Almost as if someone is taking a huge breath before blowing into something. Starts to make me wonder if perhaps the robot theme here might be not to far off as if someone or thing is having their voice amplified in a way. Maybe a battle cry of some sort?

just an opinion

Man, it's the cuckoo sound all over again. Once you hear that sound as an inhale, you can't hear it as anything else.

Fixed the sound on my laptop, by the way. First time I played the roar? My cat pooped himself.

I thought the inhale was there from the beginning, but I had the same problem with the cuckoo sound. I think an inhale at the beginning of a booming roar makes more sense, though.

Perhaps if you're looking for the significance of the roar, maybe giving us an isolated sound does mean something. I've enjoyed analyzing it, and there's all sorts of racket going on in it to fish out. Maybe it was just put in to cause the startle for all of us spending all the time still fiddling with the pics on the page. It seems to have worked on a bunch of us, huh?
