[spec] VX.swf / VX nerve gas Hey guys,
So I've got an interesting theory on the roar file. It is indeed vx.swf (1-18-08.com/vx.swf will roar at you after 6 minutes), which is (in my opinion) an interesting name.
A google search for "vx" leads to a wikipedia page about a very toxic nerve gas, vx.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VX_ (nerve_agent)
According to wikipedia, treatment facilities along the Delaware river processed and destroyed thousands of gallons of the gas over the course of two years (ending in January 5th of this year)
If an industrial accident happened (theoretically, of course, though there were reports of small amounts leaking out), quantities of this nerve gas would drain out into the atlantic ocean, relatively close to NYC.
If there's a lead of any sort, perhaps it is this. Of course, this is just speculation, but its where I'll be looking for the next clue.

Hmm.. You may be onto something.
JJ has said that the most important thing is the roar, or something along those lines. We have the roar's file name, which is VX. This VX has recently been dumped, with a rumored leakage. The leakage could thereby have been consumed by some micro-organism in the ocean, which is now being harvested for use in Slusho. Because they ate it, and perhaps processed it, the VX has the properties of a euphoria inducing drug, which is why Slusho is catching on so quickly.
How this ties in with the monster...I'm not entirely sure of.

Sounds feasible. Especially if it corrupts the "deep sea ingredient".
It's not uncommon for Vx to be shorthand for vocals. At least in my recording experience.

seriously now, where is this quote of jj saying the most important thing is the roar? is this actually documented somewhere or is this speculated fiction to justify how deeply you are all disecting a sound clip?
sorry to sound cynical, but i've been looking in to this craze way more than i had ever thought i would, and i never came across one bit of info in regards to abrams saying the roar is important, so i'm just highly curious as to its source.

I don't think VX is a mutation-causing agent. It kills, for God's sake.

I think your explanation is more likely than mine, in that case.
As a matter of fact, based on the simplicity of the clues inching us past the trailhead, this seems far too complex to go anywhere. The major basis of my theory was that "vx" was unusual in some way-- if it's common, my theory is all but busted.
If this board is good for anything right now, its tying us to reality.

In The Host, massive amounts of Formaldehyde cause the mutation. Let's face it, we're talking about a massive monster/s smashing up a city - I don't think it needs to be too logical
I reckon the vocal thing sounds more feasible, but you never know. A guess is as good as any other.

It was a virus, not the Formaldehyde. The Formaldehyde part was criticizing us yanks ( like usual ) for an actual incident when an American doctor actually poured Formaldehyde down a drain at US Army base in Korea.
VX is a nerve gas, not a mutator.

Ah, but the large amount of what really has been pumped into the rivers isn't VX, its the waste water from destroying VX. Its unknown what the chemical waste might do to people/sea life.

Sam's right, if recent experience is any indicator.
And, yeah, VX is probably short for "vox" from Latin, meaning "voice."
"Vox Populi" = "Voice of the people."
But y'all knew that already, right?
