[QUESTION][META] how the monster will be done
so who even said . . .

did someone actually say the monster will be computer generated? can it be (as stupid as this sounds) a guy in a suit ? for a classic monster movie effect? with the technology that is at their disposal they could probably do it. however somone probably will shoot this right down with a direct quote

gotta shoot this down
Guest

Sorry, but I'm going have to have to shoot this down. If it was an old timy thing, the trailer would have hinted it. The producers would NEVER advertise a hardcore monster movie with tons of special effects and then give us a guy in a suit.

Sorry but this is a horrible thread. Good day.

you know, judging from the measly 30 mil budget, my bet is they probably wont even show the monster that much in the movie, rather, focusing on the story of rob and his friends.

The latest Godzilla movies STILL had Gojira and company in a suit, and that wasn't half-assed.

J.J. may also be using the idea of H.P. Lovecraft

"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is Fear. And the oldest and strongest kind of Fear is Fear of the unknown."

Using this idea, they would probably never show you the entire monster, as to add to the horror of it. *after all, they called the script, "The horror movie to end all horror movies" according to IGN*

also, if they never show the whole thing, it would add to the realism of it all if thats the angle they are shooting for. if some big ass monster comes crashing into seattle, im not going to waste any time trying to catch a glimpse of the thing, im gonna be running for my damn life! they used that effect pretty well in jaws i thought, never showing the full shark until the end of the movie. that flick made me scared to go in water, a fear that stays with me to this day....so yeah, that angle is pretty effective i would say.

mabye this movie will have the same impact as Jaws, but it'll make people scared to go to NYC?

I can just see it, within the time this movie is in theaters, NYC becomes a ghost town.

that would be hilarious but i doubt they will belive in a giant monster that you can see coming jaws just came out of nowhere ,NOW a terrorist attack movie would make nyc deserted , although so much business goes on i doubt it

Blair Witch capitalized on that to great effect for their handheld cam movie...

I gotta agree showing less not more of the monster is probably gonna be the route they take here too!

Don't think that "guy in a suit" necessarily means "a 60s type ridiculous Godzilla costume".
Many modern horror/monster movies use makeup and costume effects. The Alien saga is a good example of this. A good portion of the Alien shots used a guy in a suit. It was a hyper cool suit, but a suit nonetheless.

It could very well be that, or entirely CG, or a combination.
