I thought he was a track/basketball jock? Football, too? Jeeez.

And a few posts back, I wasn't really asking what specific tribe it was, but, ahem, musing on the probability that an extant group of Native Americans, no matter how remote, would call a car a "chariot". Perhaps I'm culturally illiterate here, but that seems...unlikely. I suppose, though, that they could be a lost tribe, like Ishi...

Just par for me to only take part of what someone says. I've got to work on that. Wink
I don't think they are a lost tribe. They are a Makah (with some Chinook) tribe. According to Melody's notes, they didn't have cars. So maybe they are out of touch with the rest of the world. So calling a car a chariot would make sense.

I knocked on a few doors, but no one answered. Some of the houses had old horse draw waggons parked next to them or around the back of the house, and often a few horses in a pen. No cars though, that struck me as a bit odd.

I think what he's trying to say is that the use of the word "chariot" is strange. The Sumerians invented the chariot, and I don't think chariots were a part of the indigenous history of the US. In other words it may have sounded more appropriate to use "iron horse" rather than "chariot".
Very Happy
At least I think that's what he was saying?

Yeah, Caterpillar has a good point about nomenclature, but mine was that, even the Amish, as isolated as they choose to be, wouldn't use such an archaic and unusual term. These people had a road into their car-less village, right?

Anyway, not to beat a dead four-hooved-thunder-mount... Wink
