[QUESTION] About the trailer Sequence I was watching the trailer this afternoon, purely out of boredom, and something came to mind, has anyone noticed the sequence of events in the trailer....
First the power goes out and we hear the sound
Everyone goes to the roof and there is an explosion
Everyone runs out into the street and SOL head hits building
What causes the first explosion if the monster has yet to come into the city, since the SOL head comes after the large explosion? Seems like the SOL head should have been first. Also, do we know who has the camera in the trailer, and who is the Asian guy in the trailer, seems like the camera only focused on the main characters, so could that be someone important.
Sorry if this has all been mentioned, please don't flame me, I searched and didn't find anything and this is my first new thread

What's to say the monster isn't in the city? The explosion happens roughly in the vicinity of City Hall Park in lower Manhattan, the Woolworth Building (which can be seen in the SOL head shot with the lit spire) is on the edge of City Hall Park. I see no reason to think the monster isn't in the city when the first explosion happens.
I don't recall who has the camera, and if the Asian guy has been named yet... I'm sure someone else knows those answers.

Just seemed like a good bit of distance between the City Hall Park area and the SOL, unless of course it comes from underground and then exits the city, towards SOL. I would think that if it were coming up from the water then the SOL would have been first, followed by the explosion if it were moving inland. Just a thought

I'm gonna go Occam's Razor and assume that if there's a giant monster and a giant explosion, the one caused the other. I could be wrong, but any other cause is going to need exposition, and I think this film is going to keep that sort of thing to a minimum.
Or, I don't know, it could be the explody monster from planet Boom. What do I know?

hmm Anyone ever put into consideration that the SOLH bounced before it hit robs place and thats why it came from a funky direction? If you look at the head closely it looks pretty banged up. Even the little spikes from the crown are gone and it looks like the face was ripped off from the back. Like the head was broken into two pieces. That could result from the monster ripping it in half or the impact to the ground was so harsh that it caused it to crack into two pieces and bounce off into other directions.

eh just doubled check myself, a little bit of the back of the statues head is still there but my theory is still pretty cool me thinks. Also the shape of the neck makes me think that the monster stood in front of it looking at the SOL face to face, so what it might have done was grabbed her by the back of the head(or back where the marks are) and pulled down. This would cause the open claw marks on its back and explain why the neck of the head is a V shape.
Its not majorly important I think but it does say a lot about the monster. It has confrontation instincts....which I guess any territorial creature would.
But I still firmly believe that the head bounced before it reached Robs place. I dunno if it bounced and caused the explosion and was then blown away because that's going too far into physics and I'm not feeling that right now, but from all the explinations of why the head came at such an angle, mine makes the most sense.

Wait, was it completely proven the the monster threw it and not just like carried some way and then threw.
If I was a huge monster,I'd be all chill and nonchalantly walk through the city with the SOL head in my hands. Just so they know what they are dealing with before I eat them.

wellll Either way the head could have bounced. If the monster threw the head from the statue of liberty he'd have to have some extremely AWESOME upper body strength and that could also go with...*begins simulation....*
1. Beast roars. (earth shakes power goes out rob and friends go to roof)
2. Beast throws head towards the city (head bounces and causes explosion causing the head to fly at an obtuse-like angle. (Rob and co runs from roof in a panic to the street where they think they are safe)
3. The head, coming to the end of its angle hits a building and tumbles to the street. (Rob and co. gaze in horror.
OR if the monster carried the head.
1. Beast strolls into the city with the head in its arms. (Zomg robs party is the best!)
2. Beast gets excited and roars an earth shattering cry! (omgzers what was that?! Rob and co go to roof)
3.attacks something that happends to explode. Possibly a tanker or gas something or other. (Rob and co run like hell to the street)
4. Beast decides to lighten his load and throws the head. ('possible bounce' hits building.......tink tink tink and it rolls in front of Robs place"
*end simulation*
I say it could have bounced because it didnt come in the "DIRECT" direction of the explosion rather to the uh..left of it? If it didnt bounce it could have quite possibly hit something else prior to getting to Robs street.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this for awhile, been waiting for someone else to mention this but no one has, that I know of at least. If JJ is comparing this beast to be on the Gojira or Cthulu level then it has to be something pretty cool.....though I dont want to set my sights too high for exactly what it looks like. I'd be happier to know just "WHAT" It is.

There was a similar question on the Ethan Haas Cloverfield Diaries, which i joined after EHWR was discovered to be unrelated.
Anyways, in my response, i brought up the fact that, in the trailer, the cameraman and the group all manage to go from the top of a relatively tall building, to the ground floor in seconds. This is because... the camera is flickering on and off. The same thing might be applicable for when they go UP to the roof *however, we do not know what floor the party was being held on.* Back to my main point though, The sequence of events in the trailer does NOT last a mere 1 and a half minutes. Because of the camera cutting in and out at some points, we completely loose all sense of time, therefore making it impossible to know how long it was between the initial roar, and when the SoL head was flung through the air.
It could have been up to an hour for all we know, in that time a huge monster would MORE then be able to walk back to the SoL and either swat, rip and throw, or otherwise propel the head into a building.
Just an observation i made but never saw mentioned.

Ohhh I see exactly what you mean. It could quite possibly be roaring at the .....crap I confused myself. Uh... *starts over*
We know the 'roar' came first. then second came the explosion and third was the SOLH being thrown or bounced, w.e. If we want a good time comparison we could use the pictures. I dont remember what time the news said in the preview....little too sleepy to look too but at least I threw out that hypothesis. Theres a lot of possibilities. Could be two beasts, could be one ninja beast. If it walked from the SOL surely someone would have had to have seen it wander through the city and the thumps of its footsteps. Godzilla even had thumps. So maybe the beast roared at the SOL as maybe a challenge and took off its head. (Thinking as an animal would for territory and took the head as a trophy??) Then as you said the time lapse from the party goers leaving the apartment to go to the roof could have been in a limited amount of time depending on what floor they were on. Possibly by then the beast had ninja'd his way to the unaware new yorkers and something happened to cause the explosion. Again a time lapse as the people run out to the street which could be assumed that it took them less time to get to the street. Then the SOLH is bounced or thrown into their street. :\
Too many possibilities and numbers for this >.< I'm better at hypothesis' for this kind of thing, you guys do the technical stuff. :p
Something else, what would make the creature leave the city to go attack the SOL?

That was sort of my original thought, because the explosion did happen before the head hit the building, but it could have been what caused the explosion in the first place then just thrown by the explosion at a different angle into the building.
