wait are we looking at the txt file for the backwards roar ?
because if we are that means someone made the roar backwards through a program and then saved it and put it on the web and you downloaded it which means who knows what kind of things could have happened to the original code

Nah the MP3 opened in notepad from the the link earlier in the thread. http://media.collider.com/collider_audio/Cloverfield_1_18_08/1.18.08_roar.mp3
It's the forward roar. I tried looking at the one I recorded from the page, but figured it'd obviously change.

Would the forward clip saved on those sites be the same as the original file from 1-18-08.com? Could there be something hidden in that file as well?

I think the fact that something looking like "Why I am sorry" popping up in there is odd, considering people claimed to hear things in the sound clip. Personally, I think it look like "Why I am sorcey." I searched "sorcey" on Google, with Juliet Sorcey as the result. She's currently 27. That'd put her at the age of the Slusho 7. Yeah, I may be looking into this too much, but could she possibly be in the film as an unnamed character? I've never heard of her, so her attachment to the movie doesn't mean much. Also, it'd be pretty lame and elaborate for them to put something like that to be found in the file of a roar on 1-18-08.com.

Me and my scientists work countless hours on such discoveries. The scientists work harder than me because I have something they do not:
A Life
Bahahaha. They signed their life over to me months ago bahaha... I digress.

We here are strong believers in the By-Tor and the Snowdog theory. Meaning that we think the movie is about two opposing monsters fighting. In this case the Snowdog is Alex Lifeson. He is of course the guitarist from Rush. And By-Tor is of course Geddy Lee. The bassist and the monster that attacks the city.

The song "By-Tor and the Snowdog" is about a battle between a demon prince and a valiant hero. It is also a fictional battle between Geddy and Alex (cited in many tour books). At about 1:53 in said song there are multiple roars which is of course By-Tor and the Snowdog fighting. If you take all of the sounds in bulk, slow them down, run them through a backwards machine, remove background noise, remove static and turn to stereo the sound sounds much like the strange roar that you hear if you leave 1-18-08.com open for six or so minutes.

We also believe that Geddy will not loose like he did in the song.

Thank you for your time and we hope you appriciate our discovery.

Geddy shoulda known better than to battle Alex Lifeson, anyway.

Yes and no.

Yes he should have known better because Alex is rather brute. He got into a brawl with police officers and such...He is much rounder than Geddy...He has short hair.

No because hell if you are 100 meters tall you will probably want to be the ONLY person that is 100 meters tall. And when someone ELSE comes that is 100 meters tall you will probably fight for your crown and such.

I won't post it but I will sure as hell give you some info.

It is off of the album Fly By Night released in 1974. It has a big blue owl on the cover (Which is also one of Geddy's assistants in his personal vendetta against New York). It is track number four... It is 8:57 long.

I hope that helped.

The one instance with the repeated text you'll note comes with the LAME encoder version. The same basic repetition occurs at the beginning of the file and the end, although not the same amount of times.
I think you'll find that they are the ID3 tags. I think (not sure) ID3v2 and ID3v3 are at opposite ends of the file. A bunch of empty fields is probably what you'll find if you look at the tags under the file's info in any media player that supports reading such tags. If the MP3 version opened in that case is the one originally embedded they MIGHT put clues in an ID3 tag, but I'd guess they did not. If it's someone's re-encode of the audio playback, they are responsible for any ID3 info the file would contain. MP3s can also have NO ID3 tag, hence why some variants of the sound have no such artifacts when you try to parse them as text.

I loaded the sound in Audacity after I grabbed a copy and reversed it. Sounds interesting, but what's most useful about it is sometimes you hear one of the sounds added into the composite to make the effect. This backmasking changes many normal sounds into very eerie things. I find it interesting that the 'inhale' sound doesn't sound very different forwards or backwards. I've also compared the sound to the 'bloop' sound and find them to be of a similar sounding basis. I think it's possible the 'bloop' was one inspiration for JJ or for his sound effect creator(s).
The only other thing I found funny was how roughly similar the reversed track sounds to the 'THX sound'. Very Happy

i don't hear a screech.

in the reverse clip
its the inhale in the regular forward one

and also i noticed that it sounds an awful lot like an airplane's engine shutting off in the forward clip

maybe to get the roar they combined the backwards clip of a subway car rushing by and braking, a forward clip of an airplane engine, and something else that was a low frequency for the actual roar part of it

weird theory but just thinking out loud

I've read in so many places that the roar is important......the main website was shut down for a while and then BAM....after six minutes you get what?....a roar. Didn't JJ himself say the roar was important? The one thing that I would like to see/hear is a cleaned up version of the reverse roar to see if there IS anything being said right around 8 seconds.
