[TECH] User-Point Systems

Web Dev is not my technological specialty, and that goes double for PHP. What I'm trying to look into is an easy (and quality) way to implement a User-Point system (like We Love Puzzles, Sf0, etc.) on a website easily, effectively, and free, including user registration.

Anybody have recomendations, advice, or instructions on how to do this?

Thanks.

just noticed 60 Blank White Cards in News&Rumors has such a site:

http://www.60bwc.com/s1/entry/60bwc-teaser-site-launches

it was posted by Mikeyj dunno if he's in the dev team or not?

I'd also like to know how to do such a site, but I'm expecting a better question might be where can i find someone to do it for me Confused

This type of thing (especially what 60bwc uses) is called a content management system. Hitting up Google on the term reveals a few useful links. You may need a fair knowledge of web systems (SQL in particular) to get them up and running, or you may not, depends on the system. Pick one that works for you.

There are lots of different content management systems, and most (if not all) use "building blocks" to add in functionality. I'm pretty certain 60BWC uses Drupal (which I use for several different sites), but I don't know how they do the leaderboard bit - there may well be a module available for this, otherwise someone might be able to create one.

If you want to investigate using a CMS (for whatever purpose), I'd recommend having a look at Open Source CMS. It has reviews of loads of different systems, and provides demos of most of them so you can see which one is most suitable for your purpose.

I tried several different systems, and found Drupal by far the easiest to get going, expand and adapt to my needs, and use. Other people swear by Joomla!, php-nuke, Geeklog, or other ones - I tried them but couldn't get the hang of them. As with all things, YMMV.
