Welcome to the hunt Adam!

Yea I noticed the response by Ty and Brother Ajax to inquiries about Avery Cates and Dennis Squalor but they don't really say anything of any sort of importance that I can gather. I agree with you that they most likely have more to say but I don't think we have enough info to ask the right questions right now. As for the password, I've scoured the site from to bottom and I can't find anything that could be the password. Anybody having anymore luck than I am?

I've done the same, skitzophr3ak. Nothing. Confused I hope we don't have to wait for weeks for the next step. People will lose interest fast if we don't get something else soon. Sad

I don't remember if this has been noted elsewhere, but on the contact window squalor is mispelled in the email address as sqaulor.

I wonder why?

yeah, still a dead email. But that would be hilarious if they did send something and realized that the only reason we were slow was because of a typographical error Smile

I heard back from one of the people who had an advance review copy. Unfortunately, the page numbers in galley proofs apparently don't always agree with page numbers in the final book. Her copy is 10 pages shorter than the retail version.

However, in the unlikely event that it helps, page 11 from the galley proofs.

Bullets flying everywhere, and they didn't seem to care. I watched them in fascination as they moved blithely away from the chaos, and the cops didn't pay them any attention. They were a protected religion, of course, and from what I'd heard the Electric Church had a lot of pull these days, maybe enough to cause even the SSF trouble. SO the Pigs were playing it safe. "From what I heard, Orel had retired rich. Standing in the shadows, I knew I'd never be rich, because five minutes into my vigil I was aching all over and going batshit.

There was a small explosion somewhere nearby, the hard-cases were putting up a good show, and it sounded like a few of them had some serious firepower, too. That would slow down the Pigs, but not for long. The Pigs were funded by the System, and had everything. I'd had to work long and hard to get a Roon, the best handgun in the world. The SSF issued them like candy.

I froze, stopping myself from leaning forward in the nick of time. Casually, as if nothing were happening, the three Monks emerged from the bar and walked past the Stormers. They didn't hurry. Bullets flying everywhere, and they didn't seem to care. I watched them in fascination as they moved blithely away from the chaos, and the cops didn't pay them any attention. They were a protected religion, of course, and from what I'd heard the Electric Church had a loto f pull these days, maybe enought to cause even the SSF trouble. So the Pigs were playing it safe.

I was about to look back across the way to see if the perimeter cops had shifted, when someone broke fromt he bar and made a mad dash behind the hardcases into the night. By sheer dumb luck, he made it---no one shot him, and as he sped out of the light, his path intersecting the Monks', it looked like none of the Stormers had picked him up. I thought he wa sjust going to make it, an amazing escape, but as he ran near the Monks, I could have sworn the Monk nearest him moved---twitched, shrugged, something---and the runner suddenly crumpled to the ground, The Monks just kept walking,a nd were swallowed up by the night. He stayed where he was."

Does anyone see anything in that passage that looks like the password?

I emailed the contact for Jeff Somers and got a response.

I sent the email using clues from his website.

Quote:
I would like to discuss your book The Electric Church with you. I'm very curious to know more about your chapter titles and subtitles. Perhaps we can talk over a game of chess and maybe a cocktail?

Ok, so not the cocktail, I don't want to drive to Jersey, but hey, some Yahoo! chess or something might be cool?

Thanks,

Adam C.

And I got this response.

Quote:
Hey Adam,

Fire away. I'll keep your offer of cocktails on file, and will show up
at your house already inebriated one night when you least expect it,
demanding booze.

L
J

And I replied once again...

Quote:
I will certainly oblige. I'm always eager to bring out my inner bartender.

In the meantime, though, what I'm really curious about, and I'm sure you've gotten this request dozens of times already, are the binary codes under the chapter titles!

I've read the samples on amazon, and I have to say, it's quite an interesting concept, and I will definitely purchase the book upon its release. But in the meantime, I'm so desperate to solve a mystery and your chapter titles may hold a vital key to the solution!

What a way to hype a book, eh? 4 stars from me.

Eagerly awaiting your response and the release of the Electric Church,

Adam C.

In hindsite, I hope he doesn't think I was hitting on him. :shudder:

I am going to try and check out page 11 in more depth, because I've noticed a few blatant typographical errors. There is also a repeated passage in there.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
so far i've tried isolating the mispelled words into one word, loto f, enoughtt, fromt he, wa sjust, walking,a nd and I managed to pull out the word thewand from that, which of course didn't work, but perhaps I'm on the right track. Maybe Orel and Roon can become a word?

Also, I've noticed on Ty's book page, he no longer lists Chapter 11, and just says that people needing the password need the book.

Nice, Adam. You are working hard! Smile

I was thinking that since we had to convert the user name from binary, maybe we have to convert the password INTO binary?

That's not a bad idea. Still, though, the fact that tykieth has posted book synopses on different websites kind of makes me believe that the whole chapter thing is the right direction.

Of course, that may not be the case at all, and it's just someone else being lame, which is supported by the evidence that NONE of the book links at the bottom of the original page have summaries or warnings written by user tykieth.

Hopefully the author himself will reveal the truth.

Well I e-mailed Ty asking him if we actually needed a hard copy of the book to be able to find the password and this was his response:

Quote:
No--you don't.

What you're looking for is elsewhere, already decrypted,
which is damn sloppy, you ask me--but then *I'm* not handling their
security.

T

So apparently we don't need the book, at least according to him. I replied asking him if there was a more concrete hint he could give us, no response yet
