Privacy Group Invades

by Melody Heller, Amboy Monthly

Yesterday protestors ringed the offices of Ideltech Information. Carrying signs such as, "Orwell's 1984 is here!" and, "Privacy is a Right not a Privilege!" They walked, chanted and sang outside the offices. Police from Battle Ground as well as the County Sheriff 's Department were called in to keep the peace as the crowd swelled to 2500 people.

Battle Ground Police Chief Markel commented, "All these boys have done is create a tool for law enforcement to use help track down criminals. If they have nothing to hide there should be no reason to worry."

There has been a great deal of debate recently in congress and throughout the world, regarding law enforcements use of tracking software such as the FBI's Carnivore. Law enforcement apologists point to the need to protect citizens health and well being against terrorists such as those who flew planes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Center Towers, the Sarin Attack on the Train in Japan, the bombings of embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. They further point out that these groups researched, planned and coordinated the attacks through the internet as well as via other means.

Chester Dundee, 39, standing at the edge of the group and watching said, "Don't they realize that this will help catch people like Osama Bin Laden?"

April Suter, 24, who stopped protesting long enough to sit on the curb with a soda, replied, "But how can we be certain that they don't tap into innocent people's lives? Everyone has said one thing or another that could be misinterpreted. An employee, e-mailing a friend could be talking about how much his Employer is disliked, and if anything happened to the Employer, that message could be used to create a case against the Employee if something as simple as the Employer getting in a hit and run accident happened.

Melody forgot to change the date on the post (still said April 2, 2004).
There are two photos as well.

Does this strike anybody as a little strange. Since when is "an Employer getting in a hit and run accident" a simple matter? Is it common place for Employers and Employee to try and run each other over in America?

I'm wondering if Miss Suter is trying to tell us a little more about some of the car accidents we've heard about in the past few weeks. I think I'll get in touch with Melody and see if she thinks this is worth pushing a little further.

No, but frivolous law suits are pretty common.

April Suter is a girl after my own heart. The reason I won't work for Ideltech is the based on the same privacy concerns, that a simple statement can be taken out of context and used against someone.

That being said, it could easily be a hint as well. I didn't ask Mark about the accident that Marty witnessed in the fields of green when I had the chance. Next time I will. We also have the death of Jude's parents and the accident that Mark was in. We need to straighten this out.

Somewhere the name of the protest group was posted. I think it's
N.O.I.S.E.

could they have a website somewhere? how do they organize? getting 2500 people to Amboy takes work.

I wouldn't be suprised if there's no website...'cause if there was, than TOBi would have known they were coming....
