[Spec] The characters are idiots

Okay,
so i was thinking - after watching the trailer.
why the hell would the characters RUN OUT OF THEIR APARTMENT INTO THE STREET when they are safer in the apartment.

Seriously - if there was a freaking huge monster,
would you go out in the streets screaming so it could eat you?

NO.
you would stay inside hiding your ass off.

i mean seriously,
i imagine you go out and look,
but after you see an explosion, why the hell would you go ON THE STREET.

this is just me ranting :p

They really never see the monster. If i remeber correctly and please correct me if im wrong, people crowded around the twin towers when it was hit and when it fell they were ingulfed in smoke and debri or however you spell debri. Just like a car crash people are drawn to these things. But yeah noone.... has a good point. Id get out of NY

I think it makes sense to go mobile, as opposed to hiding in the closet. That way, if the monster is going west, you can run north or south (same concept as extricating yourself from a riptide actually). However, I can't say I have a high opinion of grown-ass people with myspace pages, but that's just me.

I see an explosion, I don't wait for it to come to me, I run the fuck away.

Besides, it seems that the main characters know they should run away...

stay inside?

1) Huge balls of flaming whatever just flew from the explosion, smashing into buildings around theirs with enough force that their building was rocked on its foundation.

2) After 9/11, I'd be hesitant to assume that a building is safe during a crisis like that. A big explosion at a distance or some such is one thing, but to have the building hit by something is different.

3) New York is being attacked by something, but at the time they wouldn't really think monster. We, as spectators in a movie theatre, are already prepared to suspend disbelief, but if you place yourself in that position, you probable wouldn't say 'oh my god it's a giant Godzilla-like creature attacking New York!' Best you might hear would be something like, 'wow, that sounded like an animal roar... I wonder what it is?'

I think in the event of an attack like that, I'd probably assume it was terrorist and that the building I was in, like the others that were damaged, wasn't going to be safe. I'd plan on getting out of there as fast as I could. Either toward the subway, or just away from the area as fast as I could go.

Just my .02 dollars worth

I dunno, this could go either way. If things are exploding, do you have a better chance running away from it, or take your chances inside? If it's definitely a creature, yea, I'd do what I could to make it think I wasn't around. If things are blowing up, which is all they really know, I think I'd like to get as far away as I could.

Being in the middle of NYC is probably a damnedifyoudo/damnedifyoudon't kinda thing. I'd probobly just being throwing up, either way.

I guess the good (if you can call it "good") thing about being in the south is all the yahoos with guns. So if this were to happen in Atlanta or whatever, I'd go where the arsenal is and re-evaluate the situation...after puking of course.

At first I thought this thread was gonna be about them actually being stupid by what we know about them on MySpace or whatever. A few of them went to NYU, and that's not a particularly easy school to get in and graduate from, so I wouldn't say they were TOO dumb. Still, where do they teach you how to get away from monsters?

And, let's not forget the state of PANIC they'd all be in. I imagine it would be hard to think straight with flaming chunks of debris raining down around you.

 Great Thread

There wouldn't be a movie if they cowered away in some corner, hoping the beast would pass.

If the monster is going West, you run South (or North), let it pass then double back going East (toward it's earlier path). That way it's now in front of you.

As long as a monster isn't behind, above or around you, I think you're safe.

Also, the 911 comments don't hold any water... and I'd perfer not to go into any details. But please, lets not compare 911 to monster flick.

911 stuff

For better or for worse, it happened and has created a different type of reaction in people, especially those in New York.

If we are going to look for a real world reason why a group of people would react during a crisis, it is a valid, and painful, reason.

That being said, looking for a real world reason why people in a movie would do anything is a little pointless. It's in the script.

But still a fun thing to think about - what would I do if I was suddenly in the middle of a giant monster attack?

Hmmmm ... let's see...

Stay in the building (Stick my head between my legs and kiss my ass goodbye)

Or... Go out, see what the menace is and then run like hell.

I pick two.

Survival of the fittest and all that crap...

If it just was an explosion, I'd stay, but if there's a bigass monster/alien invasion, I'm moving the Hell away from my apartment, that's for sure.
