That's about where I am...I'm also trying to remember my Astronomy course...

I'm also trying to find my star map...stop laughing...I'm not that big of a dork. I have it from the aforementioned Astronomy course. Cool

I have gone through and written down the names of the constellations appearing in the sky at that day and time....I hope this is right!

are you getting 3 or 4 constellations for each?

I got two for each date, using the north and south declination...Posted one page back.

Personally, I'm thinking this is a dead end, maybe...or something, or we're over thinking it. Or under thinking it...or something.

If going solely by Dates, to get the Right Ascension, and the numbers in Paranthesis to get the Azimuth...Here are the Constellations that have stars within those parameters:

9/2 - 20.02 Budapest, Hungary: Hercules (North Declination) and Sagittarius (South Declination)

8/20 - 8.02 Oxford, England: Ophiuchus (North) and Serpens (south)

8/12 - 28.55 Weston-Super-Mare, England: Hercules (North) and Ophiuchus (South)

8/6 - 22.55 Bath, England: Hercules (North) and Ophiuchus (South)

8/5 - 21.55 Bath, England: Hercules (North) and Scorpius (South)

8/4 - 20.55 Nice, France: Hercules (North) and Scorpius (South)

8/2 - 18.55 Grasse, France: Hercules (North) and Scorpius/Libra (South)

7/30 - 15.55 Grasse, France: Hercules (North) and Scorpius/Libra (South)

6/30 - 15.09 New York, NY: Bootes (North) and Libra (South)

As an aside...Ophiuchus is the 13th "Zodiac" constellation, meaning that it falls along the ecliptic (the path the sun and moon, and all of the planets, Venus strays slightly, take across the sky). It is between Scorpius and Sagittarius.

GREAT JOB!

Do you think the time of day of his posts could have anything to do with the calculations?

Yeah, you know, I was looking at that, but I couldn't remember how to get the Meridian...I mean, I have the notes, but they're for North America, and I think it's different in other places, so I couldn't figure it on my own. I'm Googling, looking for a way to get the Meridian.

Here're my notes:

The Drunk Method for figuring out O.M. (The T.A. had a sense of humor)...
1. What day is it? Look for RA (Right Ascension)
2. Where am I? (To adjust Local Mean Time)
3. What time is it? (to adjust for time correction, I think...)
4. What season is it? (to adjust for daylight savings time)

The problem is this: This is to figure out the meridian in Denton, Texas (where I went go college) on any given day. It gets sticky for me the closer to Greenwich you get, being that's the standard time...in the meantime....I'm googling, k?

Next Tuesday at Midnight Eastern Standard time...somewhere on the website, I think under rules/how to play/something it has when all of the challenges will be posted.

HAI GUYS!! WAIT WAIT! I found something else...

http://www.phys.uu.nl/~vgent/islam/islam_tabcal.htm

The Islamic Calendar...

Ok, so you know that website that the Mr. Barnesworth got is picture on his blog from?? You know this one?
http://www.mhs.ox.ac.uk/students/97to98/exhibits/index.htm

Well, it occurred to me the Muslims run on a Lunar Calendar, which is what his image is, the Islamic Lunar Calendar.

http://www.mhs.ox.ac.uk/students/97to98/exhibits/pg_clndr.htm

SO...I started doing a little digging, and I found the first website I listed, which converts the Gregorian Calendar (what we Westerners use) into the Muslim Calendar. The result corresponds very closely to the numbers in the parenthesis.
