And then we talk about my dropped ball...

Don't beat yourself up Lurker, we all dropped the ball on this one.

The whole clue makes more sense in light of this interpretation. The reference to the sun guiding him was one clue, as the temple at Delphi was to the god Apollo, who was sometimes equated with Helios, the god of the sun. Line 4 of the clue, which I mentioned earlier as not making much sense, also makes sense in the light of this interpretation as Orpheus changed his allegiance to Apollo after going down into the underworld. I remember reading an article a couple of years back saying that someone had recently uncovered the site of the original temple at Delphi, so it shouldn't be hard to find Smile.

Hindsight is 20:20, eh?

But then, why all the references to the sibyl?

Also, no one freak out, but I won't be back on until sometime Tuesday. If anyone needs to reach me, or if you get stumped, tell Smooth. He can get me.

The most famous of the Sybils/Sybyls/Oracles.. whatever... was one of the ones at Delphi.

Yup. The (most famous) Oracle at Delphi was the daughter of the Cumaean sybil, although there were actually a whole series of oracles at Delphi.

I think it may be time to move on...

No one has seen or heard from Matron in almost a week.

I really don't want to speculate on WHY.. but I think it's time to refocus...

The last clue we were looking at was related to The Temple of Delphi... did you find anything else on that?

Let us/me know.

I understand about the Oracle, but she was referred to as the Oracle at Delphi, not a sibyl. She was my first thought, but I discounted it. Meh.

Anyways, I'm back. And I've jumped straight into the middle of a lull...

And yes, they still do telegrams. I send them all the time, cuz it's fun and antiquated.

ForumLurkerOnAIM (5:44:00 PM): hrm

Brentinthetent (5:44:23 PM): Tell me about it.
Brentinthetent (5:44:37 PM): Apollo's Laurel...any idea what that is?

The Next Clue as delievered by Matron was/is:

Quote:
I bring you back your next clue. I have been to Delphi - search Sophie's journal for Apollo's Laurel.

So B and I quickly discovered that his girl Daphne was turned into a Laurel tree.

Here's a quote from wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_and_Daphne

Quote:

Her strength begins to fail, and, ready to sink, she calls upon her father, the river god: "Help me, Peneus! open the earth to enclose me, or change my form, which has brought me into this danger!" Scarcely had she spoken, when a stiffness seized all her limbs; her bosom began to be enclosed in a tender bark; her hair became leaves; her arms became branches; her foot stuck fast in the ground, as a root; her face became a tree-top, retaining nothing of its former self but its beauty. Apollo stood amazed. He touched the stem, and felt the flesh tremble under the new bark. He embraced the branches, and lavished kisses on the wood. The branches shrank from his lips. "Since you cannot be my wife," said he, "you shall assuredly be my tree. I will wear you for my crown; I will decorate with you my harp and my quiver; and when the great Roman conquerors lead up the triumphal pomp to the Capitol, you shall be woven into wreaths for their brows. And, as eternal youth is mine, you also shall be always green, and your leaf know no decay." The nymph, now changed into a Bay laurel tree, bowed its head in grateful acknowledgement."

Daphne later changes back into a person, but no one really knows what happens after that.

So.. now B is searching the journal for anything Apollo related.. Tree related.. etc..

stay tuned.. Razz

When I read "Apollo's Laurel" I pictured the laurel wreath that is generally worn around his head. It remains a symbol of high honor to this day, in fact, and is used in many symbols.
