[SPEC]Whale theory
going back to prehistory

Someone in a thread here mentioned that the monster might somehow be related to a whale because the roar sounded like a whale. Also, I watched the trailer again an I am sure that the guy said "it's a LION, it's huge". Ok, this is a long shot but bear with me for a moment.

So I did a little research on prehistoric whales, and I found that scientists believe that a descendent of whales once existed that had four legs and walked on land. This creature was called a Mesonychid, and it looks like, I kid you not, A FEMALE LION. An article about it with a picture can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesonychid

Maybe the 08-01-08 creature is a gigantic mutant Mesonychid.

It's an interesting theory, although I doubt it'll play out, certainly as the "It's a Lion" thing has been analysed and discarded as people mishearing the line.

Just think about this...do you think jj would give away what the creature looks like, very blatantly, in a trailer, but keep every little bit of it a secret within other sources such as the poster, slusho, 1-18-08.com, etc.? That would make absolutely no sense.

actually...

i like this theory more than most, its the one thats so simple, it makes perfect sense... and it hasnt been given away the easy... look at how long its taken for anyone to come up with this lol... and it would be a kick as monster... the sound is right... the observations (lion) is right... the claw marks are right... if its related to the whale, no doubt it can swim underwater yeah? i never really bought into that whole lion thing, until now... kudos Very Happy

The line is clearly, "I saw it! It's Bloop! It's huge!"

I do think there's a really good chance the creature is related to a prehistoric proto-whale, but not that early in the developmental chain. I don't believe the 'it's a lion' thing at all, the line "It's alive!" is just too much of a reference to iconic American monster movie culture. The roar sound is too much like that of a whale to be a primarily land animal. Were it more shrill with a much less wheezy, belabored beginning I might think it was closer to a big cat type sound.

Singing: "There's a bathroom on the right".

It's alive.

Are you kidding or are you serious? Putting aside the fact that it's quite clearly "it's alive" the lion thing is one of the biggest jokes about this film. Maybe a [HUMOR] is in order?

whoa...

well I really could care less what was said in the trailer...
"it's alive" or "its a lion." I really don't give a crap.
But, this took me by surprise.
Not the theory itself, but that that animal was related to whales.
wow. O_O

don't think that's our monster.
but, if it was that'd be one kick ass movie.
good research though.

Actually...if you listen to the isolated audio that's posted like EVERYWHERE its easier to hear the guy screaming "Its Alive, Its Huge."

Maybe he's referring to the lion?

Why would he say it's alive? I mean, we knows it's alive. IT THREW THE SOL HEAD AT THEM.

Didn't that happen after he said "It's Alive/Lion, Its huge!"?

Can you people not read? It's been stated very blatantly in this thread alone.
Besides the fact that this line dissolves any thought that it could be terrorism (pre-SoL head), this line dates back to many other classic horror/monster films, along with many other elements of the trailer.

While I definatly think this is an interesting theory I don't think this is our boy. Mesonychid doesn't seem large enough to rip the head off of the statue of liberty and certainly not to create and survive a massive explosion that ripped apart the Manhatten skyline. That and I think Mesonychid really looks more like a Wolf than a Lion.
