Once we get this next hint, I'm going to collaborate all of the puzzles into one big post, with their spoilers. So anyone just getting into the game can follow up.

Then I'll submit it to the good folks of despoiler.org (aka SpaceBass).

ok, so when i said robot semaphore before...i might not have been too far off.

Ok, now when you look at the new blogad-ty picture, it looks similar to the squalor and dust pics that we had to place on top of each other. Apparently there's this thing called Semacode (forgive me if you all know about this already, this is the first time i've heard of it). Semacode is basically a process for encoding a URL into a barcode-like image. Apparently if you take a picture of the semacode with a camera phone, the camera decodes the image and directs you to a web address, accessible using your phone's web browser.

Anyone want to attempt it? i'm going to bed and my phone doesn't have web browsing capabilities.

Wow, thats very interesting, great find goodchild. I have a blackjack, so hopefully thats up to it. And do you guys think that we should search the blogs more thoroughly since the login page is /brother? kind of implies a login that starts with brother "..." or maybe its another random password. Too bad there's no way of making sure if only the login is right, that would make things easier unless unlike the other login puzzle, the login and password are really close to each other.

Edit: on that semacode site, it seems you have to download software on your phone for it to work, so i think it can work on your computer too since there's another file reader that works on comps.

Edit2: it seems you have to have a server running or a command line to input fresh java in, which I don't have. Also, this stuff looks way over my head. If these TEC bastards went this far, I'm impressed and hacked off at the same time Smile

Part of me wants the PMs to have used semacode so that I can finally feel like I've contributed something, but part of me thinks that they probably did not go thru the trouble....although there seems to be a lot more sites out there offering to create a semacode barcode for your random website, than sites that explain to me how I can get to the site embedded in a semacode i've stumbled across.

I think you're idea of searching the blogs is a good idea...at the very least it could give us username.

I thought the semacode was a good idea, and I downloaded the java reader, and couldn't get it to work on the gif. I then experimented with making my own semacodes to see what it would take for the reader to work and quickly discovered that it doesn't work with gif files. I went ahead and made a jpeg from a screenshot of the blogads_stream.gif file, and no message was found in semacode.
So I suspect we need to find a complementary image somewhere.

hmm...

maybe we are over thinking this. i know very little about semacode but when i saw the picture the first think i thought of was the coded messages from when i was a kid. the looked almost identical accept that they were usually red. when you looked through a red filter or glasses you could read the message. i dont have photoshop but mabe one of you picmasters could try some image filters or overlays and see if anything comes out.

also, the hidden picture of the man, it looks like hes holding a deck of cards. if you view the 5 pictures that make it up in sequence it looks like he could be dealing the cards out. do any of the blogs mention cards or dealing?

Again, in the clear...

Just throwing out ideas now...
I noted earlier that the phrase "in the clear" keeps popping up, and here's a wiki about it...

In that article they don't show what Clear Text looks like, so I'm not sure I would recognize it and I'm not a programmer. Confused

The in the clear phrase and the negative space phrase makes me think of trns.gif. This is the image at the bottom of the dead monks page and when you download it to your computer it is blank (negative space or clear). It shows up in my photo bucket account blank as well

http://tinyurl.com/2e8j9q (it really is there, just right click & save photo)

But if you download it and open it in notepad you can see there is a .gif there. Confused

Clear text means text without encryption. A password sent in cleartext is unencrypted (which means anyone snopping can trap it), and so is insecure.
I think Ty was telling us that the first password was out there in plain sight, and it was in the monks' blog. Though, I don't think we would have figured it out though without help from amazon and Ty Smile .
