[SPEC] demon thing in picture of girls
real, not, blah blah.

I know alot of people think the demon thing is fake and we're reading too far into the picture. That seems dumb to me; JJ Abrams doesn't let something that obvious just slide by. It's meant to be there. In any case, all along I've been searching for meaning on it, etc.

Today I was looking through my bookshelf and saw this:

Which to me really resembled the demon thing, this:

It occurred to me that maybe the demon thing is just a gargoyle on some building behind them or something; maybe in the trailer there's a building with gargoyles or something, who knows, but maybe it's not as much of a clue as I thought.

How many of you guys think it's some kind of clue, and how many think it's "hair"?

While you're probably right, I see absolutely no similarities between the two pictures.

POLL: Is that a super secret demon in the picture, or some chick who forgot to use conditioner?

It has exactly as much relevance as the hand that looks like a crocodile wearing a baseball cap in one of the 1-18-08 pictures; i.e. zero.

It's just hair IMO. It does make for a nice Avatar.

Let something obvious just slide by? What do you think he's trying to say to us if that were a 'demon', of some sorts? Why/how is it 'meant' to be there? We've seen with 'It's a Lion!' and 'cuckoo!' that things have been assigned a significance that didn't exist, that we mistook things and felt them more important than, in truth they really were.

The picture on the Anne Rice novel is of a stone gargoyle and in my opinion it doesn't really match the 'demon' you think is behind the two girls. To use your own logic, if Abrams and co had gone to such effort to not show us or really reveal anything about the monster, why would they then go post a picture of it between two girls on the film's soon-to-be website? (I assume it'll eventually be the film's site)

I think it's hair and an accidental byproduct.

Agreed, but when did we discover that the cuckoo noise was nothing? It could hold some relevance. I know weve gone over this but it is another animal, as well as jellyfish sea horse frog, etc. Show me where we dismissed it completly

It was the topic where people had loaded the trailer into an audio program made by Apple, which allowed them to identify the various audio tracks from it. Said people had concluded that the 'cuckoo' was actually a woman crying. I'll try find a link if someone else doesn't post it.

Edit: Here you go, from Tearing apart the teaser again:

Obviously news has been very slow lately, but here's something to do if you haven't lost interest already. It was recently discovered that the 1080p teaser on apple.com contains 6 separate layers of audio. Nothing all that important seem to be hidden in there, but I found it very interesting to hear the teaser from different angles and you can definitely hear more snippets of dialogue in some of the layers that were previously hidden by special effects or noise. CloverfieldClues has extracted each layer of audio into separate mp3s (as well as a few snippets of dialogue). I'm surprised nobody thought to do this earlier...I actually assumed someone tried and the layers weren't different, but obviously they are. But you know what they say when one assumes...

Also, very strange and probably an irrelevant joke or coincidence, but when the Statue of Liberty head hits the corner of 401 Broadway, a cuckoo clock sound can be heard. Use headphones and turn your volume all the way up to hear it. I didn't believe it at first, but sure enough, it's there, and very audible...it's not another "IT'S A LION" thing, I assure you. I just listened for the sound on each channel separately, and on the third and fourth ones (left surround and right surround) you can hear it's actually part of a girl sobbing (which does sound very much like a cuckoo clock). Again I wonder why people didn't try separating the channels earlier when they were using noise filters to clean up the cuckoo sound.

Do I think it's just hair that coincidentally arranged itself to look like a demon gargoyle? No way. It seems pretty obvious that it was intended and it doesn't require a huge stretch to see it (compared to, say, those images of the Virgin Mary on a piece of toast).

How is it relevant? At this point, I have no idea. Probably the producers messing with us.

Oddly enough it does look like a demon but its probably hair. Hair can be a demon. Well, at least mine is when I try to straighten it.

It just seems like a lot of work to go to for something most people probably wouldn't see, if it were intended. After all, it may be like inkblot patters or cloud formation where we think we see a particular shape.

That said, why do you personally feel there is a monster positioned behind the two girls, and it isn't just their hair?

Not "Ink Blot" test

The image is just TOO blatantly obvious. There is very little subtly, if any at all. You don't have to squint at or look at the hair at any odd angles to see the "demon." Also, if you look at the context, why even take a picture of the two girls that close anyway? Not much can be drawn from seeing a closeup of their eyes, besides what presumably is fear. So, unless it is outright proven that it is 100% insignificant (which is most certainly has NOT, at least not yet) then I think we should still keep this 'demon' hair within the realm of possible clues, etc... So many people seem to be so passionate about their opinion that it is not relevant, but yet really have no proof that it is not worth mentioning. But then again, I don't have any solid evidence of the contrary. either haha.

Well, anyway, my 2 cents. I figured I'd make my first post as a registered member mean something.

I think it's totally plausible even a fairly distinct shape suggestive of such a thing can occur completely incidentally. When you are editing graphics, you tend to focus on what you know you actually see - like the faces of two mascara smeared terrified women. You could totally miss artifacts accidentally created, like our 'demon' friend. I've certainly had such things happen when I'm tinkering with graphics. Even the subject itself can be seen in a way not intended.
Look at my avatar. What do you see?

I'm going to say this AGAIN though I have no proof.

When the picture was first posted it was at a size where the "demon" was not initially visible.

I had to have someone point it out to me at the beginning. Then when Paramount shut off the flash to the site and froze the images they froze them at a size where the "demon" was blatantly and patently obvious. You can't miss it now.

I still believe this is important, so I do not dismiss out of hand the people who believe it's a "demon."
