Da Vinci Code contest

In an interview with Good Morning America (I'm not sure when), Dan Brown mentioned a contest to locate hidden codes on the cover of his book.

Brown's previous books had codes hidden in the text. Since Leonardo da Vinci used to hide codes in his artwork, DB put at least 4 codes hidden on the cover of The Da Vinci code. e.g.

In the interview, he gave a huge hint. In the flap copy, the word business looks different.

Doubleday has offered a riddle on http://davincicode.com. It points to the first code. Once you have all four, you send them in. All the correct entries are put into a pool. They'll draw a winner for a trip for two to Paris, France. Dan will send them with a list of secret locations in Paris they can visit from the book.

Here is where you can view the interview for yourself: http://www.danbrown.com/media/multimedia/gma_cbds_video.html

There is an audio only link for dial up users.

/me goes to get his copy off the shelf.

Awww, man! And here I am with the bits-n-bytes audiobook version from iTunes. Maybe I will look for a used copy this weekend.

You can actually do it without the book. They have links to JPGs of the cover. But I got through it and discovered the contest is already over. Sad

Still a fun little puzzle though.

Aww too bad. Is the book a good read? I was thinking of ordering it (I hate reading Dutch translations of English books so I'd rather buy the original, but before I move over to Amazon I'd like to know if it's worth it Wink )

It's a decent quick read. It's not "literature", but it's an interesting suspense story that challenges you to think about certain things in a different light. Personally, I prefered Angels & Demons which revolves around the same character from the Da Vinci Code (they stand alone, so you certainly don't have to read one to understand the other). Both read very much like a movie and every chapter ends in some sort of cliffhanger. He doesn't seem to write women all that well which bothered a few of my friends. I don't think it really matters as it's not about women, it's about suspense and conspiracy. Both are definitely worth the price of a paperback and absolutely worth grabbing from a local library.

Da Vinci Code revolves around the Holy Grail
Angels & Demons revolves around the Vatican and the conflict between science & religion

Both are filled with classic conspiracy theory (masons, illuminati, secret religious groups, etc.)
