I think what rose was getting at is that for most of us here it's about the Playing and the Having Fun, not about who did what or why or how special that was. While it's nice to get recognition for things, whether from a campaign itself or from the community following it, it's a bonus, a whipped topping, fluff. And it shouldn't be let to interfere with us being able to get together and Do.

Just to clarify I'm not an owner. I don't even play one on TV.

I'm not sure I stated any concerns to address.
Thanks for trying to address what you thought my concerns were though! Nice to know you had my best interest at heart!

As space says, the point is to get together and DO. Recognition is a bonus. I think the players here have done a great job of getting together and doing in the face of a mind-numbing lack of updates.

As has been mentioned, it's not really about the recognition of who found what as it has been about accuracy of the information, or at some points, sheer fabrication. It's about promoting those sites that can be trusted over those that value the attention and hit numbers.

Ah well. Both points of the debate have now been hammered home.

Wow. I find this fascinating. I've never had any interest in attempting to police the internet. I don't think it is possible to do. (An aside: I don't think it is wrong for people to try to capitalize on the insanity of 1-18-08.) But if you want protect the innocent from the sites you have decided aren't trustworthy, have fun with that.

I prefer to try to work within a community to build and maintain this site for whatever games are being played here. To be honest, I don't think you understand what unfiction tries to do. Or maybe you do understand and that just isn't your cup of tea. One way to explain it is that we aren't about imposing control or artificially manipulating a collaborative process. Of course, not everyone cares for that approach.

Thank you rose, that wasn't the least bit insulting to my intelligence.

I never once said I actually supported the idea of manipulating the google search results... I simply supported the idea of dissuading people from 1-18-08 News and 1-18-08 Truth which, if you've looked at them are less professional than other blogs referenced on unfiction's Cloverfield subforum.

I don't believe it's a game, but what's wrong with the desire to keep the information accurate for people who think it is a game?

I think I do understand what Unfiction tries to do and I am for helping to solve this, if it is an ARG.

I'm not intending to insult anyone's intelligence. Sorry if it came across that way.

Sorry, I was being an insufferable jerk last night.

I do understand the spirit of Unfiction, working out the game as best as possible with the people of the forum.

Anyway... it doesn't seem likely that there'll be any agreement on this.
