[TRIVIA]Noriko Yoshida's name Easter Egg, Coincidence, or something else? Well I was actually just playing around with this, and I'm not sure if anyone else did this before. I did a quick search and found nothing so if anyone else has, I'm sorry =o
But anyway, Noriko Yoshida's name is spelt as such, in Japanese Hiragana:
のりこ・よしだ
As it is, it doesn't mean anything. Now, Yoshida is the SURNAME, right? (Her father is Ryouta Yoshida) And this is the American way of writing names. In Japan, and other asian countries, the surname always comes first. Therefore, her name would be Yoshida Noriko, or:
よしだ・のりこ
Now, when you reverse this...
こりのだしよ
Which is read 'korinodashiyo'
What's INTERESTING about this is that it CAN also be read:
kori no dashi yo:
凝の出しよ!
Which means, "That Seaweed Soup leaves a bad taste in your mouth!"
凝(kori) means a bad aftertaste (Also can mean a shoulder cramp)
の(no) is a subject modifier, it just acts like an "'s". It means whatever behind it refers to whatever's after, as a property thereof.
出し(dashi) is a kind of broth, made out of boiling fish or kelp. It's a staple in Japanese cuisine.
よ(yo) is a particle modifier which just makes the whole sentence mean "That is ____ !" roughly.
With the whole thing about the magical ingredient found underwater and supposed to be tasty, this sounds quite ominous.
Personally, I also think it's a coincidence, myself, albeit a rather entertaining one. Although I wouldn't rule out it being done on purpose.

I think the posted Japanese characters reading as ???? on the forums in English which is causing some confusion. I can't see the characters on my screen but only the question marks.
I wonder if we can do anything about this?
And welcome to unfiction KitsuneRisu.

I'm using firefox...is this browser dependent?
Internet explorer gives me little boxes instead of question marks.
There must be something I need to do to be able to see those characters.

Well, I'm not sure but I think the Japanese IME support needs to be installed and supported under Windows XP and Windows Vista. I'm honestly not sure about any other OS. I use MSIE7. You'd have to go to 'Imput languages' under control panel and make sure that Japanese is installed under 'supported languages' I think.
Also, I'm sorry if this thread is pointless or useless in everyone's eyes. I just felt it was interesting and I wanted to share. I really don't know if it warranted something like this:

yes, that is it! Sadly I have to dig out my windows XP CD which I'm not sure I even got from Dell when I got this computer. I'm going to have to look for it later.
I don't think this thread is warrantless. I think there was a misunderstanding because people couldn't see the characters and didn't know what was going on.
Heck, we went for pages about the cuckoo clock sound.

Just to add to what Rose said, I think any legitimate research or theory on any facet of the ARG (or w/e it is) is welcomed. On the other hand, be prepared for these types of comments. The forum is also limited in its censorship (which IMHO is a good thing).

I didn't like it myself. But I admire the mods for not taking the thread down.
