Dr Who Episode "Blink"

hubby & I were watching [urk=http://www.scifi.com/doctorwho/episodes/episodes.php?seas=3&ep=0310&act=1]this episode[/url] on Friday night (first airing in the US, on SciFi channel).

Quote:
In an old, abandoned house, the Weeping Angels wait. However, when people start disappearing, a young woman named Sally finds cryptic messages bleeding through from 1969 — messages from a mysterious stranger called the Doctor. Can she decipher their meaning before the Angels claim their prize?

About half way through the main guest start following strange messages konashark turns to me and & turn to him and we BOTH agreed that this episode played just like an ARG!

Yes, I agree, kona. Her best friend's note from the past, the way they planted the Easter Eggs in the DVD's, The Doctor (in the past) reciting a script from the future that answered questions being asked in the present...way cool. I could definitely see that last device being used, via Youtube, in a future ARG.

Also, all the angel statues...kind of reminded me of the mad dash for cemetery angels we had in Eldritch Errors after Sinyx retrieved the finger. Smile

Side note: My wife is convinced that this episode (aside from being really well done) was set up as a vehicle to specifically highlight the Sally Sparrow character. Maybe for future inclusion, maybe for a show of her own. I'm not so sure. Any opinions?

What would the character (Sally Sparrow) add to the Dr Who universe? Unless he goes back to get her at a future date (when he loses his current companion)? Personally, I don't see her on a show of her own.

Now, Capt Jack! I really wished our cable got BBC America. I just hope Sci Fi picks up Torchwood soon.

Thinking more along the lines of a "Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart" character...a semi-permanent, Earth-bound guest star that pops in every once in a while to help out. Or, possibly being highlighted by the BBC for a non-Who show. I don't see it, myself.

With you on Torchwood...it'd be a nice back-to-back on Friday nights. Smile

I love to see what you make of Torchwood in the US. it odd! It not like Dr who it more like X-files meets the L-word in Cardiff Bay Area.

I like it but I don't think any ones else did.

It's actually based on a short story Stephen Moffat did for the 2006 Doctor Who Annual. They really had quite a literary theme going on this season as Human Nature was based on Paul Cornell's 1995 book of the same name (not to mention the other various literary nods in many of the episodes). I don't believe that the Sally-centric episode was anything more than just an utterly terrifying reworking of a previous story - possibly because Stephen Moffat was busy working on Jekyll as well (which is also a rather freaky retelling sequel.)

I thought this was such an awesome episode. :D I feel as if they got a new writer or something, it felt and played a lot better than some of the other episodes.
DON'T BLINK.

This is actually the 4th episode Stephen Moffat has wrote for Doctor Who. He wrote The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances in the first season, The Girl in the Fireplace for season two, and now Blink for season three. And according to Doctor Who magazine (via wikipedia) he's slated for another two parter in the fourth season.

I think that that's more the role that Martha's going to get in the next series, with less of the travelling about.

I really liked Sally as a character and think she'd be a great companion, I think the kid with the watch in Human Nature would make an excellent addition as Adric mk II.

Kid with the watch was GREAT! I was hoping he was going to turn out to be someone famous when he grew up, or at least noteworthy. But I love dthe ending - great closure for him (the kid).

I'm sure he's been in something else - though can't think what.

Yes I can - Love, Actually. And Nanny McPhee. Sadly, both of which I've seen. He's Thomas Sangster.

OMG! I just had to pop in and say hell yes!

And also, this is my favorite episode of Doctor Who ever. Even though it didn't focus on the hilarious and amazing Doctor, it was so mysterious and amazing. An awesome episode that really shows off how clever and creepy the show can be...

This was the best episode of the series. It had everything Dr. Who should have, scary aliens, humor, overly sentemental moments, the Doctor saying "I'm so sorry" just fantastic. Stephen Moffat is a legand, can't wait for his two part episode in series 4.
