Sentry Outpost is In-Game

This post is not directed at anybody in particular, but recently there have been a number of threads and posts on Sentry Outpost that have made reference to playing a "game" or "alternative reality" or "PMs" and other out-of-game concepts. I would just like to remind everyone that S.O. is "in-game," which means that anything that gets posted to SentryOutpost should be written as if the game does not exist.

It gets confusing (for many reasons) if the line between in-game and out-of-game becomes blurred. If you feel the need to make comments on out-of-game aspects of anything, use this forum! It feels neglected sometimes Smile

yes. strictly in-game (same goes for the wiki over there) so try to keep that in mind. it's tough sometimes, but it's way more fun that way. Smile

How do you manage this when a newcomer isn't aware of the rules, though, and goes to SO without researching the game's nuances beforehand? I found the Venger thread very interesting because it looks like from his perspective, a bunch of strangers jumped down his throat for reasons he didn't quite understand. While I appreciate the need to adhere to TINAG, how can we do so in a way that accomodates clueless noobs?

Yeah, that seems to be a tough question to answer (and probably part of the reason some people don't like IG forums). In Who Is Benjamin Stove, we tended to move the OOG comments to a separate thread, then send a kindly worded PM to the player explaining why we moved their comment and exactly what was going on.

Some chose to play, some were never heard from again.

Im just going to stop replying. because i keep posting things, and then deleting them before they really push this to a new level.

SEE I EVEN DID IT RIGHT HERE

Additionally, i generally respond to people in-game, and then PM them w/ the WELCOME! <HUGS> hey, here's where to get started stuff.

I would LOVE to elaborate and go on, but it wouldn't help anything. so let's consider this closed.

That's a thing for moderators and site admins to help keep up on and clean out the threads that are OOG.

But, fonograph, perhaps we shouldn't be reffering to them as "clueless noobs". That doesn't give out an air of welcomeness, now does it? It makes it just like an online game where "clueless noobs" that are trying to get into something they enjoy doing are belittled and berated just for being kind of clueless and all they need is a bit of help trying to figure stuff out.

I think we should stay away from calling them "noobs" at all. It's derogatory and unbecoming of a self sustaining, always helpful community. We should encourage them towards the wiki timeline at the least.

Hi Lestat,

I fully agree and am glad to see that people have the same perspective on this. I meant the term endearingly -- we were all clueless noobs once. Smile
