Where did he get codex from? As far as I've read (as a student of grail legend and the daughter of a Templar), there's no codex associated with the Magdalene. Is that a PM slip about one later IG, or possibly in context with more of the conversation?

edit: whoa, totally misunderstood what you said, so I'm deleting that.

It was more in context with the conversation. Some people attribute the fourth gospel to the Magdalene rather than John, as a few websites told me, and as I was finding these websites I was linking them to Brent, and we were reading over them together and discussing possibilities.

But yes, it's really more in context with my conversation, I believe. I'll read over my log again.

Am I the only one that just hasn't been seeing Brent lately?

I haven't seen him on AIM in a very long time. Usually I was able to catch him on my way home from work, but...

:/

Calling out...

ok.. time to speak up a little..

This is to the PM of this ARG..

Please let us know whether this is dead..

Personally speaking, I was having a blast with this... but the lack of communication lately is just... odd.

Did we do something wrong?

Brent has not even logged onto his Myspace page since the 15th!..
So, what happened? Where are you?

It's YOUR move.

*sighs*

Hey, as by popular demand I stop in.

This isn't over I promise you,
Lately my team has had some issues with college and scheduling and I'm sorry for making you all wait like this, trust me it's been driving ME crazy too.

Expect something in the next day or two and expect a big change soon.

Again, sorry for the wait.

Team Brent

One more thing,

We are in NO way related to Adam Worsley nor do I know who is/was running that show and personally I was sad to see it die.

The constant comparisons are quite the annoyance.

Thanks,
Team Brent

umm.. umm.. metinks that u wasnt supposed ta do that... now I think thans an UnFictional Warrant for yer Arrest!

But really.. if [The PM of Brent] needed time, [He] should have worked it into the story somehow... by saying Brent went to the hospital, or got arrested, or even took the trip to Europe by becoming a stowaway on a cargo ship and had no means of communication.. all of that is better than leaving devoted players holding their BEEPs in their hand wondering what happened?

Just for future reference.. we are under the ASSUMPTION that Team Brent = A third party.. not a player, not a PM, but a mysteriously ghostly apparition that apparently knows things that will help us!

As for the comparisons.. the PM made a bad move adding Adam Worsley as a friend on MySpace. I dont know how that even came about, but [The PM] instantly started turning the rumor mill himself. Us, the players, being the ever vigilent conspiracy theorists that we are, automatically assume that the two are connected, because WHY ELSE would an IN GAME MySpace profile, have a friend that is - oh-so-surprisingly - ANOTHER In Game profile, for a different game?! Its not completely uncommon for Game threads to merge (IE. Gabriel Lawson / Prophecy of Stars) so of course this is going to be our line of thinking and the comparisons will continue.

ALSO it didnt help that both games seem to have fell off the deep end at roughly the same time.

*Steps off the Soapbox* Whos next?!

I think you were a little harsh on them Smooth. Sure it could have been worked into the story, but I believe there was problems with "management". Possible the other member kept promising to come back but time just kept going.

Also yes the posting on UF may be in bad taste, but really did they say anything that would directly change the game in any way? No. This is the best place to let us all know that there is a problem and they are trying to fix it.

I also applaud Team Brent for telling us about what happened and they are trying to do something instead of just letting the game just die. Better late than never.

The Adam Worsley thing.. lol That probably could have been handled better. I was determined to connect them. Oh well.

It is not 'just' bad taste, it is also against the Unfiction TOS, which does not allow for PM communication through these forums. Even if they did not have the time or means to work this into the story, like Smooth Wun suggested, they could at least have used their own ways of communication to reach their players.

I trust this was the first and last time they used Unfiction in this way.

Well said Giskard.

As for Britt.. a think a little "harsh" is when people spend umpteen hundred hours putting their time and effort into a game, that just stops with no explanation. The relationship between the players and puppetmasters contains an unspoken trust with the understanding that we, the players, will continue to progress their, the PMs, storyline, as long as they are commited to their project FULLY. We did not ask for anyone to become a PM. It is a choice that they make and a responsibility that they choose to accept. To begin a game is almost like a promise that it will be seen through till the end, hence the hook that interests us.

If a game were to start with the promise that it will implode halfway through, how many people do you think would get involved? Not anyone that I know or deal with. This is why when a game implodes, there is a certain level of betrayal felt by the players. We have put our time and energy into developing an in-game relationship with characters. Even though it is in-game, an out of game unspoken bond is also formed. This bond is almost like a "I wont screw you, if you dont screw me" type of deal.

As for Brent PM personally, I like him. I mean him no disrespect by any of this. Things come up in ones daily life. I completely understand this. But as I had said before, it only takes a few moments to come up with a cover for the game, to show its hard working players that their time has not been spent in vain.

Honestly, recently I took a short break from ARGs for this exact reason. The lack of respect for the player. I dont mean this towards Brent ARG alone, it was a combination of games that got to me. It is either the PM starts the game without having the slightest clue what they got themselves into, or the storyline isnt prepared. Then there are the games that almost seem like no matter what we - the players - do, we have no impact on the storyline whatsoever and basically are being dictated what is going to happen next. I dont know about you guys, but in my short time on UF, the games Ive come to like the best are the games where I feel like a character in the story, not just a reader of a story.

A perfect example of PMs allowing the players to impact the story was done by Chris Dach, the PM of "Invasion Stage 1" (Gabriel Lawson/Prophecy of Stars). He made us feel like we could make suggestions to the main character, Colby, and it would be seriously thought about, and sometimes even - carried out. THAT is a prime example of what ARGs should be about. Now I realize alot of these games are by some first timer PMs, so some slack is needed to be given.

Overall my message is this: If a PM is not completely 100% sure they can devote themselves to the game, then they should wait and develop their story more, until they ARE sure. This will avoid frustration on both fronts and will add to how smoothly the game will go.

Guys Im sorry this message took so long, I didnt expect it to last this long, but ever since I took that break from ARGs, I needed to get this off my chest. I just want to stress though that this message was not directly to the PM of Brent. I like him, and hope he manages to get the game back in order.

He needs to be careful though, because as Giskard said, PMs posting on an OOG Forum is a Violation of the UF Terms of Service (ToS). There are alot of other ways to get in touch with us, mainly including his own MySpace page. Accepting an OOG message there would even be more acceptable than reading one on this forum.

Anyways, good luck Brent. To everyone else I once again appologize for the length of this message. Thank you for hearing me.

Oh ack, what a time to discover a game!

FWIW, catching up on this story has made for an amusing couple of days - and meta-ARG theory aside, this game is wonderful to track. (Frankly, as far as I'm concerned ANY game that introduces new people to Jonathan Coulton is a win, completed or not.)

I'm gonna continue to watch this one (I don't really have the time to play anything right now aside from some dabbling in Madison Atkins). Keep up the good fight, players. You're doing an excellent job!

[Sidenote to the PM: In Looking for AV there was a bit of midgame drama as well. The worthy puppetmaster of that game dropped an OOG note for me to relate to the players via an obvious IM screenname. ARGPMOOG is taken in yahoo, but might still be available for AIM if you grab it quick and need a back-channel in the future.]

I found out why Brent disappeared like that.

He was kidnapped Sad

He believes that it was G's group that did it - they broke into his house and slapped him awake about ... three nights ago now, I guess, and carted him off. He's pretty sure he met G himself, who questioned him about the locations of the book and the treasure.

Now, the book is safe - it's under a stump in Eric's backyard, and Brent did not share this information, and as he told me, "Blood was my reward for not talking." (I apologize for the lack of quotes, but per usual, this conversation was held on AIM on my cell phone.) He escaped by doing a tuck-and-roll out of their car while it was going about 55, he told me, which kinda stinks. As far as I can tell, he's hiding out at a friend's house, as I gathered by him stating "his internet is really slow" and "we're way out in the woods" yesterday, and today telling me "I'm going to break into my house and get my phone and money." But... why would he have to break in to his own house?

Now, I don't know how much good this is gonna do us, but he's now in possession of my cell phone number (haha, now I'll get weird ARG calls all the time), just in case something big goes down like this again.

Also, he told me today that he's going to email me the text he found before he was 'napped. Of course, when I receive this email, I'll be sure to upload any and all information here for you all.

(edit):Brent gave me the text he found on the "Mary" page. Since he doesn't have a scanner anymore, he just typed out the text.
