People Pretending to be PM's

I think I am a bit overwelmed. The problem with this is anomninity (I can't spell we all know it). One of the reasons I didn't stay anonymous was so I could be approached with issues and address them concerning AWARE. I wish other would of done that for some of the other games I have played. Tech issues often made it difficult to play and most didn't respond to emails from the trailhead.

Now I have people pretneding to be PM's. Like this "Catfish" guy. It doesn't take long for me to get 15 PriMessage's from people all telling me not to do what I just did. But I never did it. And neither did my staff. And then they think I am running some Mickey Mouse arcade, and not some legit game. So pretenders, stay away please.

This is rather ironic. I had to resurrect this post where Nash is upset about people pretending to be PMs. What about the AWARE PMs pretending to be people (i.e. PMs holding multiple UF accounts, in direct violation of Unfiction's Terms of Service)? I find this just as distasteful, perhaps even more so, because PMs should know better.

Checking Hoyle's Rules to ARG

Last time I checked... Paragraph A-a-1. PM are supposted to pretend to be people. I guess we could pretend to be aliens.

But the UF stuff is something I felt could of been handled differently. Not every PM has been on UF for years. Not every person who comes to UF is going to sit around and get his feet wet before jumping in. If you want this genre to grow and new idea to come out the more veteran people need to break the mindset just for a second that an ARG is supposed to be a certain way. If this is to ever be money making and a bigger market we have to be more welcoming to people who come in and spend time and money for people they don't know to try to entertain them. I expect the type of criticism I see here if I was charging everyone $5 a month, but I am not. I will lose over $12,000 to bring AWARE to 130 people. Do the math.... I have spent almost $100 on each of you playing. To try to make this the best experience I can for you. Not to mention time. If you don't know already I am a new Dad who was in Iraq for the last 8 months. So I didn't have much time for my family. With AWARE I still don't. I put this game on because when I was in Iraq my only escape was to get online and enjoy Acheron whenever I got the chance. I felt I had to make it up to EVERYONE who experienced that with me. I love you guys.

I just feel like a father who spent a bunch of money and time to find the perfect present for their kid. And the kid says it sucks.

If you don't like the way it is. Contact me. I will put you BTS and you can make it better.

UF is not the game. It is only the place where people come to talk about the game. UF does not define what an ARG is, the PM's do. And you can play or not play. But "rules" are undefined in this genre, but ARE defined in UF.

Perhaps I should have said "legitimate people", as in fellow UF posters. I wasn't referring to anything in-game. I was clearly alluding to the fact that you have multiple UF accounts.

In this post as The Creator, there was nothing in-game about it. The fact that UF has been declared out-of-game notwithstanding, it's unnecessary to create additional aliases.

I wasn't criticizing your game, just pointing out the irony of your request.

I'm truly glad you added to your post. When I first looked at your reply, it was the single, sarcastic line about the aliens.

Everyone makes errors, but at least you've addressed yours (the TOS violation of holding multiple UF accounts). That's all I was looking for.

Nash, I think you read a bit too much into Dia's comment. I think we can agree that the recent incident does not sit well with legitamate members of this community, which includes you. Yes, we had a problems with someone who was in a position of power take advantage of it for nefarious reasons. But I think we can all agree that we can discuss, because obviously, given the number of responses, it is an issue near and dear to all our hearts. Every community, be it on line or off line has to deal with people who break the community standards. Sometimesthe results are good (I happen to like living in the USA, and when those folks broke the standards, I think I personally gained something) and there are times when breaking of those standards are not good (assault, theft, intentional negligence leading to major accidents). In the USA the way to codify those standards it through the legal system and passage of laws. Here in the ARG community it is through discussions such as those we are having.

I know we are all very passionate people, and we each have our own opinions. It is ok for us to disagree. It is ok to show that passion. However, I would ask that we prove we are the intelligent people that I know we are. Those IQ tests for Ideltech employment can't be wrong. Wink Everyone remember to use the approved tags for humor, OK? Please? Smile

Oh and sorry about the soapbox... I've turned in my paperwork to start the process for getting a gastric bypass. Hopefully by this time next year I won't be doing that.
