Interview with Pat Carson

Interview with Pat Carson

by, Melody Heller, AmboyMonthly.com

After a few missed connections I finally managed to meet with Pat Carson, one of the people Krystal Blac credits with her rescue.

Amboy Monthly: How are you doing?
Pat Carson: Doing ok, tho I must tell ya, last time I was mentioned in a paper was in '87, when I was in a bike accident. Smile
AM: Oh no! I hope you weren't hurt too badly!
PC: Well, I woke up in a hospital bed with a lateral skull fraction, the mother of all headaches, and a tube the size of my pinkie up my nose and down my throat. But I made it, with some slightly faulty flesh-RAM. Smile
PC: My mangled bike was on the front page of the Gilroy Dispatch. Smile
AM: Oh my goodness! Was it a car that hit you?
PC: A gravel truck, actually. And I pretty much hit it.
PC: *wears a helmet religiously nowadays.* Smile

AM: Well, I am glad that you recovered, and Krystal Blanc is too. She said that you were one of the key people involved in her rescue
AM: I was wondering if you could describe what you did and why, in your own words?
AM: Don't be all shy now Pat. I know you are still there, it keeps saying you are typing at the bottom of the screen
PC: Heh... Well, truth be told, I like to think of this as a team effort. Someone had recognized Krystal's 'signal' as the 3 of Circles mahjongg tile. From there, we all did some searching on the web and found the Phoenix reference. I was in contact with Marcus at the time, and relayed the info.
AM: ANd that lead them to Phoenix Arizona?
PC: Exactly.
AM: And was it you who contacted Chad at Columbia River Rentals as well?
PC: No, that was Brian.
PC: He thought ahead earlier to contact them.
AM: I have sent an e-mail to Mr. Enigma, but have yet to hear back from him. He must be a very private person, either that, or I got his Ideltech e-mail address wrong
AM: I tried [his ideltech e-mail address] but I guess that isn't the correct one
PC: Mmm, perhaps he is. Just look at his last name.
AM: True
PC: Still, contacting Columbia River Rentals like he did was brilliant, in my humble opinion.
AM: I won't bother him then, but if you see him, please let him know that everyone sends him their thanks, especially Krystal and her family.
PC: Will do.
AM: Do you have any plans for relocating to Amboy, I mean Aloha to be closer to TOBI or will you be working from your current home?
PC: To be honest, I think the whole team deserves praise for her rescue. Krystal herself does as well; without that clue, we just might still be looking for her.
PC: Heh, no plans for relocating for me. I'm quite comfy her in SJ, and am glad I can work from here.

AM: SJ?
PC: San Jose.
AM: Oh, so you are just down the coast from us!
PC: Pretty much, yeah. And hoping the Sharks can bring the cup home this year.
AM: [smile]
AM: I hope you will consider making a trip some time up here, we would love to see you!
AM: Maybe for the opening of the building?
PC: I'd love to visit, but I've got a bit on my plate right now, family stuff especially. Both of my sisters are getting married this year.
AM: Oh my! Well, they should be proud to have a brother like you
PC: Thanks.
AM: Will you be the brother of honour?
PC: Heh, I hope so.
AM: Give them both my best wishes on long and happy marriages
PC: Will do
AM: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me Mr. Carson!
PC: Anytime! I'm honored.

With employees such as Pat Carson and Brian Enigma, I am certain Ideltech will make the world a safer place to live in.

News article- Death with Dignity

And this too.

Death With Dignity
by Melody Heller, Amboy Monthly

Hospice care seeks to provide patients with comfort, a quality of life and dignity that that comes from being directly involved in the health care decisions. This care does not seek to treat the underlying causes of illness, but rather it provides for ways to meet other goals, such as pain management, relief of distressing symptoms and enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families. It also provides for care and comfort for the patient’s family, giving them the support and information to help them through stressful transitions.

This specialized care for dying patients had its roots in the early 1960’s when Dame Cicely Saunders gave a lecture in 1963 at Yale University regarding holistic hospice care of terminally ill cancer patients and their families. Over the next decade this lecture was responsible for many activities including the founding of St. Christopher’s Hospice in a suburb of London in 1967, On Death and Dying written by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross in 1969 (who then went on to testify before U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging in 1972 on the subject of Death with dignity), and the establishment of the first Hospice in the United States in 1974 in New Haven, Connecticut. There are currently more than 3000 Hospice programs in the United States.

Hospice care begins when the patient’s doctor believes the patient is entering the end stage of a terminal illness, and the prognosis is that the patient will not survive longer than six months. A consultation is held between the Patient and the patient’s family, the patient’s Doctor, and the Hospice Staff members. The treatment plan is meant to ease any pain the patient may have and provide nursing care support to allow the patient some symptom relief and assist the family with caring for the patient. It also includes counseling for both the patients and their families to help them with the emotional and spiritual needs that arise. Hospice providers also offer bereavement counseling for family and community members, which is available even if the patient was not under hospice care.

Local Hospice groups include Hospice Southwest in Vancouver, WA and Kaiser Permanente Hospice Care Program in Portland, OR.

Editorial- "BIG BROTHER, A REALITY?"

Might as well make it a hat trick. Smile

BIG BROTHER, A REALITY?
by Melody Heller, AmboyMonthly.com

Published in 1949, George Orwell last novel, 1984, spoke of a time when government watched all its citizens all the time. 20 years ago, in 1984, such broad based surveillance seemed to still be in the realm of fiction. In 2004 Big Brother is getting closer.

In 2002, privacy advocates sued to get more information on the FBI’s program, DCS1000, also known as Carnivore, which was installed on many internet providers in order to monitor a suspect’s e-mail. They also used EtherPeek, which manages network traffic, to track data. The FBI relied on the 1994 Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) to get permission from the FCC to allow such eavesdropping. The problem is, that when Louis Freeh was called before congress during debates on the issue, he led them to believe that it would only be used for telephone conversations, and intended to cover new telephone services such as cellular and three way calling. A report prepared by the House of Representatives in October 1994 was very specific that CALEA did not pertain to Internet Service Providers. Police agencies such as the FBI are hoping to change that interpretation, especially since changes in internet services now provide for voice conversations and changes in criminal activity, namely terrorism, have pointed out the difficulty of Law enforcement to collect information without being able to collect information on a suspect’s Internet use and communication.

The FBI is not alone in its quest for a back door into expanding their data collection abilities, The National Sheriffs' Association, the Police Executive Research Forum, the Illinois State Police and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have all contacted the FCC in support of the FBI request. It also appears that they use the same person to draft their letters, these identical set of words appearing in all the requests: "State and local law enforcement do not have the financial or personnel resources to develop costly ad hoc surveillance solutions for each new communications service." How long before George Orwell’s fiction becomes fact? It certainly appears as if it is a lot closer now than it was in 1984.

These articles have an awful lot of four numeral years in them. And aren't very good "news" articles at all.

Another purpose Question
