I think I have some idea
Hope this hasn't been said

If you watch the cloverfield trailer, there are clues in it, e.g. the camera showing a particular thing of interest, well i noticed that the woman, that say's "Robs great, I'm gonna miss him", she had food in her mouth, she was eating, eating what? shortly after it shows a new clip that starts with the camera pointed Exactly on a plate of Tofu, or raw fish, must be served cold, in tofu, they can put, shrimp, fish, or crab. Looking at the picture after watching it, that stuff is tofu. He made tofu, using crab from the Deep Sea, even more strange, all those pictures are linked, they were all related to rob or his friends, I think they used the recipe, and that crab, or whatever the "Deep sea" thing was, was in their recipe, and the photos seem to show two people who ate something bad, they have their hands over their mouth, they might be nauseous. Any idea's?

AfterDystopia: Good point. However the fact that he was discovered at sea and that he's a monster is enough for Hollywood to say "Z0MG!!1! WE NEED A CTHOALHU MOoOOOVIE!!1!" They'll fiddle around with the story, make it their own. Yeah, I'm fairly sure that we can knock Cthulhu out as a possible monster.

Yet, the "discovered/awoken at sea" dealio is likely the basis of this movie, as seen from the drilling sites. The monster gets awoken by drilling, he gets angry, he destroys a city. Either that or this whole thing is a huge red herring and the drilling sites have nothing at all to do with the monster's origins.

Good point with the food at the party. I think somebody had mentioned that earlier, with regards to this card being found in the rubble of the apartment.

Yes, I am i_c_weiner from PEEL. I remember you, fry2006. You haven't posted in a while there. Things are starting to heat back up a bit over there with the new movies starting to be released in November. Between that and Cloverfield, there's a lot going on in the later part of this year/early next year for me to look forward to!

Hmm... good point. So we could get a very Cthulhuesque creature here, maybe even a paranormal, semi-omniscient (or at least highly intelligent) monster with its own cult or city of the like. I can see how that could work out...

anyone else here think that in the movie there will be some archive news footage or some fake news footage about the Bloop? it seems highly plausible.

surely not. if it is drilled for in different places around the world for over a decade.......why would it suddenly be like..WTF STOP STEALING MY SHIT! doesnt seem right?

Animals can be geographically unique, there's nothing to discredit the idea it only lives in that particular region of the world.

I quite like the notion that the creature never was interested in the nectar used for Slusho, it was simply the pursuit of the nectar that brought it from the place it used to be.

I guess the other reason I like it is that a number of the theories suggested the 'secret ingredient' was harvested not far from Japan... but if so then why would the monster attack New York and not one of the islands of Japan?

You do realise the 'deep sea crap' translation has been refined to 'deep sea nectar', right?

As for why Rob might have the recipe, if it is at his apartment, he might have simply come into possession of it through his or somebody else's travels... I have a menu from Abitino's Pizza at 733 2nd Avenue, New York on a nearby shelf that I kept as a souvenir from a trip to New York.

I was thinking along these lines as well.
Granted, this is pure speculation, but perhaps Ms Lascano's friend, Mr. Hansen has gone to work for the Tagruato Corp., and Japan was his destination concerning his being out of town.
If this is the case, we may see some supporting evidence in the upcoming Lascano video clips and potentially on some of the the Myspace pages.
This would provide a further "in" for Rob, if in fact they (Rob & Ted) are associated (and if Rob goes to work for Tagruato's marketing department, which all but a given).
Hansen may have sent this recipe, in an attempt to bolster the abundant possibilities in which Tagruato's exclusive "secret ingredient", Kaitei no mitsu (Seabed's Nectar), may be prepared,
and it's growing (recent) prevalency in the Japanese culture, and potentially, worldwide.

Tagruato...
Exploring our world.
Ensuring your future. Wink

I cant think of a title
or a description

I know that the stuff translates as deep sea nectar, I just forgot, but, even if the recipe was just laying around robs apartment, it doesn't mean they could have used it to make food for the party, I still say it has something to do with what they ate, watch the trailer, its at apple.com just search for it on google. As far as it being Cthulu, IT IS NOT CTHULU, there is no reason for it to be Cthulu and it opposes everything JJ said about wanting to give America it OWN monster, This thing is new, and from what we know, it comes from deep inside the ocean. I think theres something to be said about the rumored titles. I think they might be clues in themselves, if anyone has one I'd greatly appreciate you telling me, so far I have Monstrous, Overnight, and Wreck. Its obvious what Monstrous and Overnight reference, but does anyone have an idea about Wreck? And if someone could explain what everyones talking about with the oil drilling...? And I need a list of what sites we know the JJ crew have put up, I know 1-18-08 and Slusho.jp, any others

The dish in the picture looks an awful lot like Ohio to me when turned on its side... which, if I'm not mistaken, is Japanese for "good morning". Or something.

A couple people have speculated that the monster is more scientific based, rather than mythological (Cthulhu). Let's assume for a moment that it is scientific based. Human beings are the only creature in the world that would "attack" another creature for any reasons other than survival or food. Vengenance is a purely human trait.

Humans very rarely run into wild animals except for when our settlements force their way into these creatures habitats and/or destroy their food supply, which then forces the creature to find its food elsewhere. I think this is the likely canidate for why the creature attacks NYC. Slusho's over harvesting (for monetary gain) of the secret ingredient forces the creature out of its usual habitat. It smells the ingredient coming from NYC sewers, who's habitants have glutonuosly consumed it in the form of Slusho. I heard somewhere that smells can travel incredibly long distances under water. Sharks can smell a dead fish for miles. So its not hard to believe that this creature could do the same.

The story is American in that it deals with companies over-exploiting the environment, high level of consumer demand and the ultimate side-effect of greed and excess. You can pretty much substitue harvesting Slusho's secret ingredient for burning fossil fuels and a monster destroying NYC for global warming.

Kaitei no mitsu apparently is only served chilled, if it's tastes and effects are to be appreciated...

* "Two chilled foods in one meal seemed peculiar..."

* "...something the Japanese call "kaitei no mitsu", or "Seabed's Nectar", shipped in dry ice by a company out of Honshu called Tagruato..."

There is an abundance of references (slusho.jp, tagruato.jp, etc.) concerning the importance of this exclusive ingredient having to be kept chilled....I don't see anything in the teaser being eaten by the guests that is chilled (it looks as if no attempt to chill the sushi plate has been made Crying or Very sad ) .

Did I miss it? (please correct me if I have)

Why can't it just be regular sushi? Why does everything have to have significance or a connection? (This isn't a direct go at you DMray). I don't think the food at Rob's party and recipe are connected because it doesn't really look like the item in the picture on the other side of the recipe card.

I thought 'Overnight' and 'Wreck' were still unproven to be real considered titles?

The significance of the drilling is in relation to finding the deep sea nectar that's the ingredient in Slusho, and that as there's a drilling rig off of the Eastern American seaboard that it's believed that this rig disturbs the moster, provoking it into it's attack on New York City, which is on the Eastern American seaboard.

The rig information was found on a site for the "Tagruato Corporation", which says that Slusho is one of it's subsidiaries. So far these sites are considered to be in game for the 1-18-08 campaign:

www.1-18-08.com
www.slusho.jp
www.jamieandteddy.com
www.tagruato.jp

(This doesn't include the MySpaces pages for Rob and six of his friends which are also in game).
