Just sent this to Rob...

I've been trying to get a hold of them to get more information about their Paraffun subsidiary as I'm a big fan of Slusho, and when I found out their parent company was involved with more industrial stuff, I totally got psyched!

The reason is because I'm a young entrepreneur in the manufacturing game, and it sounds like the Paraffun product line would be right up my alley.

I know it's kinda rude for me to just have at you for information like this, but I don't like to fuck around, ya know?

Rob specifically diverts attention to it in his email to Colby.

HOAX?

I've been sitting on this overnight and I was hoping that this would all sort itself out, but as this is well on its way to being accepted as canon, I have to go ahead and post this. I'm not doing this to be malicious, but as this is starting to pervade several threads the forum needs to be aware. If I am wrong I will apologize wholeheartedly, but I don't believe that I am.

This is a HOAX.

The message from Rob to Colby is a fake. I wasn't sure until he posted the HTML of the message. There are several little things that give it away, but here is the smoking gun:

Go to the html page of the message Colby posted:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/files/asd.html

First, next to Rob's profile pic click on 'Delete From Friends' and you get a popup that asks "Do you really want to delete Martin from your friends?"

Second, close that and click on 'Block User' and it will take you to an 'Are You Sure?' confirmation page. On that page click the '[Back to Profile]' link and it will take you to the sender's profile:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=119992619
This guy Martin is very clearly a friend of Colby's.

Here is what most likely took place. Colby sends the original message to Martin and Martin responds. Colby saves the email to file and proceeds to modify it. Martin's profile picture, name, and Myspace address are changed and link to Rob's profile properly. However, the other links on the page are overlooked, including the two above as well as the Forward, Back, and other buttons at the bottom of the page. If you look through the page source, you see Martin's name in the code. His Myspace ID (119992619) is also all over the place.

There other smaller details, but I think this cinches it. Again, sorry if I'm somehow wrong.

I even thought about looking at the HTML too...

Thanks for coming through once again MrToasty.

sure smells like a hoax now, but in the case that it is not:
Since Rob is supposedly "the marketing guy" for Ganu; I assume that he oversees allt he art/logos that get approved for usage (specifically in this case for the website) He also might be the one making the website. So, if that logo with the fist grabbign the world is not an "approved" logo; it would have been Rob who snuck it on there. Hence he would be the mole.

He sure had a look of "Oh Noes" going on in the trailer, on the roof, and not like the freaked out wtf kind of look.. but you... dread. Like he was expecting something to eventually fuck up, and just didn't know win.

Who knows, he may have even been trying to rush out of town but then got caught by the surprise party.

Good detective work, as usual...but unless colby confirms or denies, I'm reserving judgment.

In the meantime, 2 questions:

1) If it's a hoax, why does the email link back to Rob's REAL site? Wouldn't it be damn hard to hijack someone's MSP to make it look like THEY were the ones who sent it instead of you?

2) Rob and/or the "hoaxer" mentions the Widmore Race..http://www.widmorerace.com/. That site contains clear references and connects to "Lost."

It was CREATED 8/29/06....and UPDATED 10/2/07.

So either a)they've got inside info that the Race site would be updated today, or b) they're the ones who actually CREATED it last year.

i.e: JJ Abrams and Company.

Thoughts?

How can you tell when the site was last updated?
If you're referencing the database for the domain name registration, that only references when the database that you queried for WHOIS information & when they last recieved an update from ICANN that included the domain name; Not the actual "html" pages of the website.

it will probably be this bit he is referring to

"Registrar of Record: Netfirms Inc.
Record expires on 2008-08-29.
Record created on 2006-08-29.

Database last updated on 2007-10-02 06:52:30"

I don't know how Whois works at all.
Are you saying that the only reason it says "Database last updated on 2007-10-02" is because that's when you queried it? Or does that line mean the registrant actually updated content on that website today?

yes, I am referencing that bit of information; here is a brief explanation. (I ran a website company for 4 years)

Registrar of Record: Netfirms Inc. (does not matter - this is just the website that they bought the domain www.whatever.com through)
Record expires on 2008-08-29. (this is the date that the domain name will expire on; if they do not renew it before this date the domain name will be up for grabs(spammers or anyone can purchase it at that time))
Record created on 2006-08-29. (this is the date that they bought the domain name - apparently last year for The Lost Experience)
Database last updated on 2007-10-02 06:52:30 (this is the last time that the database that you are getting these WHOIS results from was updated; this database is regularly updated 2x per day, but may not always be updated until 24 hours after changes are made; every domain name in existence is supposedly in that database. After that database is updated things like servers/routers/etc all trickle down updating from each other on where to send people's browsers/emails/requests/etc. WHOIS is a search that anyone can do to request info about a domain name they are interested in.)

The only way to find out the last time a page was updated would be to have a server log or download the page & check the properties to see the modified/uploaded date if it has one.

Any more questions?

FWIW, I agree with MrToasty. ColbyRook is lying.

colbyrook wrote:

As to your questions:

1. His original screenshot looks Photoshopped to me, so he could have made it say whatever he wants.

2. I think the "connection" to Lost proves that it is not real. This is NOT a Lost movie.
