but the dish on the tray looks like it could be a brain of some sort?

haha
would a giant crab have a brain?

This all reminds me of the movie
"attack of the crab monsters"

...and funnily enough, that movie reminds me of "lost" as well
(the characters are stranded on an island after their plane explodes....and the "monster" on THAT island is an intelligent mutated crab monster lol)

Anyhow-
The tasmanian giant crab is also known as the Giant DeepWater crab..
they can grow up to lie 40 or 50 pounds I think.

and then
there is the frightening
Giant Japanese Spider Crab
whose legs can span about 15 feet
and who can also weigh about 50 pounds...

I still think its REVENGE to be served
cold, though

Still have to go back to the teaser poster that shows what appears to be multiple claw marks on the beheaded statue of liberty as apposed to what it would look like if a crab with one giant claw had ripped off the head.

...and if this could be some elaborate tie in to The Watchmen
and 1-18-08 is actually a movie in which the Watchmen save the day hahah
even better for meeeeeeeeeeeeee.
(most unlikely scenario, but a girl can hope)

i am not convinced about any crab theory.

however, i still beleive the monster will look along the lines of this vaguely.

i may be wrong though

Food is not the only reason by any means, but it is the only reason that would cause an animal to seek out interaction with humans. The examples you gave are of defense mechanisms or survival tactics. Animals need to eat and they need to survive. Animals don't kill others because another doesn't think like them. An animal doesn't just attack because its "mad". I was trying to allude to the fact that if we're talking about a scientific reason for this creature to attack, then what is the reason that a creature would break from its natural habitat deep below the sea and travel hundreds of miles to attack NYC? Animals by and large avoid human contact unless their food sources are threatened or we tread into their domain and they are protecting their territory. Even if the Chuai drill disrupts this creature, I can see it attacking the drill, but not going hundreds of miles to NYC for revenge. Animals aren't capable of rational thought processes that would make them want to teach us a lesson by attacking NYC.

I don't suggest there's any need for rational thought for a creature disrupted from it's native habitat to go on what amounts to a rampage. I can give more examples - angered bears for one. If you've ever been around a cat or dog fight, you may have had one of the animals 'turn' on you in the heat of the fight. Ever been unfortunate enough to be near a beehive when someone else threw a rock at it? You didn't cause the problem but you are the nearest handy being to attack. Basically if you are in the path of an animal in such an angry pursuit you can become victim to an attack just because you happened to be in that path of travel. As for animals avoiding humans - most do, but the really large ones that basically know they can kill us often don't even care to avoid us. I don't think anything that can tear the head off the SoL is going to be particularly concerned with avoiding human contact.
Finally, a problem with the 'sniffing' theory - ocean currents don't run straight from the Mid-Atlantic ridge to NYC.

Again, those monsters are attacking because of their natural defense mechanisms. Someone stumbling into the line of fire is also a natural response. The monster attacking the Chuai station because it was distrubed is totally within reason, but the monster traveling to NYC hundreds of miles away is not...that is unless its going there for food.

In the movie, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, a monster attacks NYC (and, btw, J.J. Abrams has already stated being a big fan of the guy who did all the stop-motion animation for that movie). Anyway, in that movie, the monster was frozen in arctic ice for many, many years and was awoken (by atomic testing or something) - it attacked NYC because that used to be the site of the monster's breeding grounds. Also, I think it attacks a lighthouse at one point because the sound of the foghorn is mistaken (by the monster) for a mating call.

Just throwing it out there as another plausible reason why a big, big animal might run amok in NYC. Food isn't the only motivator... nudge, nudge, wink, wink, saynomore!

Not a crab. =]

Its already been translated that the recipe does NOT mention a crab. That is why there are no real instructions as to how to prepare the crab.

Dont be so sure.

As with lost, there are no coincidences.

This is potentially the biggest movie of the year by the person responsible for the biggest show of the decade.

If the mistake could have been made to seem like it was about crab,
it was no accident.

The monster has heard about Jamies' hotness. Smile and wants to get with her.

Hey, for the awesome people who originally translated the recipe on the back of the picture -- what do you think this 力の手 (the old name of Tagruato) means?

I'm guessing the second kanji is probably "te/hand", which seems to go with the recent discovery of the logo where the hand is gripping the world, but what is the rest of this referring to?

Also, curiously, that text seems to copy and paste rather easily, unlike the Japanese on the Slusho site. Makes me think they wanted us to figure this out.

edit: thanks, I'm an idiot, i found this posted elsewhere. sorry for wasting thread!

I'll tell you what with all this uncertainty and speculating I'll go ahead and be so bold as to throw out a garuntee. When this movie comes out I garuntee it will be the biggest film of 2008........ up to that point, lol.
