Interestingly enough, Slimer and the MILFs were the US's real secret weapons for breaking up the USSR.

Well, the whale speculation that I've come across is that the whale is the monster that is awakened by the deep sea drilling of Tagruato. I would speculate that the whale could be Noriko (Ganu's lost mother) since the slusho site mentions that she was lost at sea while looking for the secret ingredient.

On a more general level, it's looking as if the whale is starting to represent what whales generally represent in literature: God, chaos, etc. It would be cool if JJ employed the themes of stories like Moby Dick because if he wants to create a monster that is genuinely American then Moby Dick would be one of the first to come to mind.
