so...any lip-readers in the house?
re: the new Jamie video

Okay, looking for a really good lip-reader.

That "cornbread" statement that's been puzzling everyone:

Watch closely.

Jamie Lascano doesn't say "cornbread."
Someone else does.

Watch her lips move.
A ONE SYLLABLE word. "Cornbread," obviously, has two.

She even makes a point of leaning forward to the camera to SHOW what she's saying. A one syllable word, looks vaguely like "hole" or something else...I dunno.

EDIT: To be perfectly honest, it looks like the word she carefully enunciates is, in fact, "whore."

What, did some prude feel the need to censor the word on her video? ...with "cornbread"? Confused What kind of euphemism is that?

The whisper may not even be her voice. Somebody edited her video.

So...lipreaders?

It does sound like someone edited the sound... although I think instead of going for lip reading, we need someone to check for layers of sound (much like what was done with the original trailer). I don't even think that can be done with a quicktime format film, but if someone with a tad more video experience (i'm a light and sound tech, but not viedo) could take a crack at it, that would be awesome.

I agree with the whore idea, although in a movie like this I figure there would be alot of "Holy Shit"'s and "Oh Fuck"s... so i don't see why they would choose to edit something that only ARGers would see unless "they" were covering up a clue... Whore is definetly not a clue...

I wonder if, just like a soldier's letters being checked for possible operational giveaways, Tagruato (or whomever Teddy works for) is editing the film to keep Jamie from giving something away.

I have a deaf cousin, and I learned to enunciate like a mother. I'll watch the video, see what I come up with.

If she *is* saying "whore," my theory behind it is pretty mundane, but logical:

...It could be Marlena that edited it with the "cornbread" comment.

As a joke. And when Jamie finds out Marlena's been going thru her private videos to Teddy -- and editing them -- the proverbial feces will hit the fan.

It could be "whore", but from what I saw... I turned the volume down, and it looked as if she said "core" or "coral" (I don't know where you guys are getting that its ONE syllable).

Nevertheless, I went to coral.jp, and it was all Japanese.

Core.jp doesn't exist.

Core.com is just an internet provider.

But when I went to coral.com, I took me to the homepage of the Coral Chemical Company. Honestly, it may just be a coincedence. But still, it's worth a look.

Does actually seem like a two syllable word other than "cornbread".
She lips more like a R, like coral, than a B for bread...

Aura...Dunno

Peculiar...

Well, i like the train of thought. I'm going to check those out (although it seems to me that those would be sites that would already have existed before cloverfield since coral is a common word).

The reason i was saying "one-syllable" is because her mouth never closes, which shows it can't be "cornbread", because to say cornbread you have to close your lips for the "buh" sound.

The original trailer was also in quicktime format, but the audio on that was 5.1 surround. However, this QT file has mono sound, because it is being shot with a webcam (or made to look so), so there are no other audio tracks.

IMO, I don't think there is any editing involved. I think it is just quirky webcam video, and it looks like the video stuttered for a sec, which is typical with a crappy webcam.

I don't know about the word "whore", say it yourself, there isn't much lip movement associated with the sounds other than the "o" sound. it seems more like the word ends in an "aw" or "ow" sound as her mouth is open at the end of the word. I also wouldn't rule out more than one syllable, Americans (especially drunk ones Wink ) often slur words a bit (like towel becomes "towl") though it would be really unfair of the pm's if this is a real clue to do that...

Checked aura.com, and wouldn't you know it, it's a technology company located in New York. And while CloverfieldClues is probably right (dad blast it), I find the Coral Chemical Company and the Aura Technology to both be funny OOG coincedences. Laughing

To me, it seems like the QT video is just of such crappy framerate and quality that she's saying "cornbread" but her lips read otherwise due to a slow capture or something. Her lips really aren't synched throughout the whole video.

Funny, I don't have any problem with framerate or "jumpy" film at all. Are you guys using the DOWNLOADED version, or are you watching the streaming version on the actual site?

Because when I watch it, there's no problem with the lip-synching and dubbing at all -- except for the "whore" part. It looks painfully, blatantly obvious...the fact that she leans forward and slowly enunciates into the camera make it pretty clear that the PMs were making a point of saying, "Oh, look! She's really NOT saying 'cornbread'!"

I don't mean to discourage anyone from investigating this, but I'm throwing my two cents in with Dennis. It's just too obscure. If it is dubbed over, she could be saying just about anything. Perhaps something will come of this later, as brettoniasam suggested, but I can't imagine it's worth investigating right now.
