Subject: Help me identify a youtube video and solve my grandfather's mysterious death
Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2007 15:59:47 -0400
Dear all,
There's a youtube video involved in my grandfather's odd circumstances of death. Please take a look at the attached picture and
pass it along.
This frame belongs to the video I'm looking for and it's the only evidence that I have so far: it's a snapshot of the computer screen he
was seeing when he died. If you ever saw the entire footage or recognize any detail of this picture (where and when was it filmed, who
posted the file and, foremost intriguing, who is that creepy bald man) please report it to:
www.goldsteincollection.com
Or email me to:
goldsteincollectionSPLAT gmail.com
To perform a blind search in youtube's database is harder than to find a needle in a haystack, so any accurate hint will be a
blessing.
Please forward this message to your contacts.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

The picture he mentions is available at his site, along with an EVP recording of his grandfather.

I also got this email...
I posted it in this meta thread since it seemed related, but I think it's sufficiently 'new' to begin here in its own thread.
The full size picture can be found here

The Spica radio he's using for communication is here

Significant messages from the grandfather, brief listing discussed on the website since July's first entry:
"I'm not there, I'm here" (initial contact after a 'cold hand' on his shoulder)
"Listen!"
"Patience"
"Prepare yourself (...) perplexed"
"Follow the path of the video"
"Don't get too cold" (he was very cold at the time of this evp)
"Come"
"Can't you hear me?"
"You know me"
EVP recording #1
EVP recording #2
"Matit" (poster's name is Matias, the Spanish equivalent of Matthew, which is the English version of the old Hebrew name Matityahu - Matit is the contracted hypocoristic form his grandfather called him by, and the name in the signature from the email we were sent)
"Today remember"
"The video veils certain answers"

Ohh, this looks fun. Nice idea! And suitably creepy/unique to grab my attention.

I also received the email...I like the idea of tracking down a YouTube video from a picture. Creative way to get people involved.
It almost looks like a side view of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (viewing across the wings and over the steps) but I can't find a photo from the correct angle to back it up / refute the impression.
As a curtain-breaking aside, I think we might be dealing with a repeat PM here, since I give out the email that was used almost exclusively for ARG registration, and I'm fairly sure I haven't posted it to UF.

I see where you're coming from with the Philadelphia Museum of Art since the windows appear similar.
I'm focusing right now on trying to identify the small castle in the bottom right. It's under related videos so one of the keywords or words mentioned in the grandfather video MUST be the same.
EDIT: Neatened the castle image up for reference.

This is a shot in the dark since I've never been there. The sign behind the gentlemen with the beard and cane appears to be "ON" so, the first thought I had was Stratford upon Avon. Maybe someone who is familiar could confirm or deny.

When did Gramps die?
That should narrow down te list of 34 second videos to search.
It'd have to be older than the day he died.
That said... Watch it be one posted like... yesterday.

The grandfather died on July 7th. The webpage was also created in July, so it's entirely possible the video has been posted for three months. (and at least to me, it looks like the video is 36 seconds long)
As for the *ON, it looks like it's a fairly short word since only one person (guy with cane) is covering the prior letters--I'd assume the word is 3-5 letters, max.
It also might help that the YouTube page description starts with Bo***

The windows start button in the photo says "Inicio". So I'm assuming this guy is in
Spain
Argentina (looking at the whois),
or perhaps a Spanish person living abroad...
ETA - the filename is dscf0010, which means it is straight from a digital camera. A quick info lookup in photoshop says he took it with a Fuji finepix A200. The photo was taken July 7th at 3:19 PM. What help this is, I know not, but It's a work in progress.
ETA 2 - I tried searching for a username on youtube, but the picture says he wasn't logged in when he watched it. Also, this video has 1 rating of 1 star. The powers that be aren't making this any easier.

Regarding the 'related videos' image:
Well, I've done a pretty exhaustive search of Argentinian castles as well as Spanish castles and Romanian castles (since he mentioned his grandfather studied there). Found nothing, but then again, it's a huge shot in the dark. The style of castle seems spot on for Spanish or Argentinian (Argentine?) architecture, a combination of crenelated turrets and a suggestion of spires. The right colours too. This one appears to have a dome which is what is proving hard to find. Going to crack on and check out some tourism sites of these countries since it looks like a pretty busy spot.
Not getting anything from the picture of the video itself. I've been through various pages of Street Lamps of the World to hunt down what the best fit is but really, it could be anywhere.
Plus, looking at it creeps me out because it looks like a skull composed of window/shrubbery just above the bald guy's head. I'm also impressed it was actually taken on July 7th. Awesome detail. Same with the UM forums.
Oh, one thing, does anyone have an imaging software to improve the picture of the bald man at all? I can't seem to get the quality good enough to tell if he's wearing a tie or if he's a priest...

I believe I may have found this building. It looks alot like the Tyn church in Prague.

good find! Note that the clip from the youtube page is a view from a lower angle - the buildings closer to the front are overlapping the area below the Kirche spires.
Same building!

Ok. I'm pretty sure the video is shot in Prague Old Town Square named "Staromestské námestí"
http://www.belgarath.org/travel/prague/old_town_square.jpg
Notice the streetlight and the windows in the building on the left.
EDIT: I'm at work right now so, I'm unable to do a Youtube search from here.

In English it's the Church of Our Lady of Tyn , in Prague.
And yeah, the main video looks like it's also in that square
Here's the google map location
