[INFO]i was an extra on this film maybe i can help? hi guys,
i was an extra for this film. i didnt learn much but maybe some of what i did learn can be some assistance to you.
im one of the extras who gets mauled by the monster in one of the scenes. it had to be one of the earlier scenes because me and the girl acting with me [and a bunch of extras] were instructed to jump like the ground was rumbling. none of us were told to look like we knew what was going on so im guessing this is before the newscast in the movie is made. probably towards the beginning of the film if i had to make a guess.
[i wasnt given a script, just instructed on what to do and when to do it]
anyway my character for some reason runs down the block to see whats going on because a bunch of people are running from that direction. the girl i was sitting at at the cafe runs after me to stop me then as shes turning me around she looks at the sky. the only thing she says is 'is that a minotaur?' before we get killed.
so im guessing the monster is a minotaur. we werent told and no one would tell us. like i said there was no script, we were just told what to do.
all the conversation i have at the cafe with the girl is improvised because they wanted it that way. they told us we could talk about anything. it was really cool. everyone just kind of did their own thing in the scene. the only thing i was instructed to do other than my lines was show up in a red shirt.
anyway, after viewing the trailer and poster i was pretty convinced that theyre going with the minotaur idea unless it was just a throw off kind of thing. but i thought some of you could look into that if you wanted. just thought id share.

That's some interesting news. I've got an idea that, whether you're telling the truth or not (and trust me, you will likely be accused of lying by many, many people here), that's essentially the kind of thing they would tell the extras.
In fact, I think I read something earlier from someone who said they were told to try to avoid a giant foot, but from the way they described it, it was probably the scene from the trailer-- and thus the SOL head, not a foot.
So, either way, my guess is that they'd have lied to you, especially if your friend didn't have a boom mike focused on her at the time.
As an aside, you make it sound like you were filming this during the day. Really?

no it was a sidewalk cafe at night.
when i was running down the block they followed me on a 'dolly' [i think thats what they called it?] and a boom mike was right over my head.
the other thing i forgot to include was them telling us to tighten up 'like a punch was coming at our faces'. i think our kills are off screen because i dont think they reveal the monster early in the film. [just what it seemed like]
they couldve lied to us to prevent leaks or something but the girl with me was told to identify the monster. [minotaur] i dont know if theyll cut it off before that line or just cut to us being gripped or what. but when i saw the trailer and saw that the liberty head was ripped off and then saw the marks on the statue on the poster and looked at some pics of minotaurs it made sense to me.
like i said i dont know much but thats what my castmate was told to say. so at least for that day the plan was to have a minotaur be the monster. it couldve changed. but when i was reading online about how the minotaur of the old ages was concealed inside a labyrinth it made sense to me for this monster to be concealed as something below the water possibly in a labyrinth. i worked on the film but im still kinda clueless like the rest of you lol

Based on what we've seen in the official teaser, there's not going to be footage of the carnage before our partygoers hit the street. They only do that after they've seen something on the news, and before an explosion and the ensuing chaos. So your timeline is a bit off...
To be early in the movie with the circumstances you define, it'd have to be during the party basically. The teaser basically also establishes that we are going to be seeing this from the perspective of the people in that party. Why would they have footage of such carnage during that time frame and ruin the element of surprise we see in the teaser?

from all that was said by the other extras i think the home video footage is just for the trailer and a small part of the film. i got to watch the scene where the two cast members were under this tarp like thing that leaked on the net. [it was shot the same day as my scene and i was invited over] you know the one where theyre shaking and debris (sp?) is falling on their heads? neither one was holding a video camera but its gonna be in the movie.
i think i described that right lol
so yeah that makes me think that the home video footage is only going to be a small part of the film or maybe even just used in the trailer. i did see a few people carrying hi-8's but they werent even on. go figure.

Wait, wasn't a minotaur the monster in "House of Leaves"? I know there have been a few references to the book, and someone had a conversation with one of the characters on myspace about it. Hmm..
Oh, and you were told to wear a red shirt because you're a character that dies rather quickly

This is contrary to other reports that suggest that such footage will make up a greater part of the film.

Could you link us to the footage you are speaking of? I've not seen it, and others considering your claim may not have either.

Are you a SAG member? Nice that you got to work on a film that's created such buzz!

If you had a speaking part in the movie, you will be included in the credits and your pay goes up substantially. I could be wrong, but as I understand it, you would also have to be a part of SAG (Screen Actors Guild)
So, if you're telling the truth, you would definitely know what a "dolly" was. The red shirt crack is obviously a joke (star trek) so in my humble opinion.....
Nice Try.

about the style The filming style may be similar to MI3. Like the scene where Tom Cruise was parachuting out of the building and the camera pans over really quick and zooms in. it gave it that feel of it wasnt planned and that it was very real. The film may have that going. As opposed to a strict Blair Witch like filming style maybe more of a YOU are there watching. Hell i believe her.
