[SPEC] cloverfield
aimple conjunction with ley lines, etc.

I have a theory of sorts. Certian early rumours had the beast in the film as Ctuhlu, or one of the old gods. there is the co-incidence of the drilling sites with Ley Line crossings. One possibility is that these ley lines crossings co-incide both with areas of volcanic activity ( lost city, geothermal vents) and with the locations of the resting places of the old gods. This also leads to the possibilty that there would be a lot of shipwrecks in the area, and consequently sunken treasure. one of the most famous of the sunken treasures in history would have been the templar treasure on its way to a certian chapel in scotland.... if Tagruato thought they had found it, and there was also a geothermal vent rich with manganese nodules, well, why would cthulu stop them from driling. those are jsu legends, anyway, right?
If Rosslyn Chapel were the target for the treasure, and storms or supernatural forces drove them off course as is rumoured, then they could easily have ended up near the latest tagruato site.

Jsut a few thoughts...

Wow. If we had more people do this much homework ARG-wise, we would have already the other twenty websites laying dormant for us.

Interesting thoughts, Kwizzer. But to be quite honest, while they are probably going to make a backstory, I don't think it'll be that complex. Audiences just aren't that smart anymore.

Good thinking though. Keep it up.

I think Dan Brown might thank you for your speculation and also lead on from his existing book set.

Although Cthulhu has been discounted in comments by JJ Abrams not sure I follow your discussion points, althought the drilling on lay lines might be worth an investigation.

So far the tenure has been in relation to real world activities (not book based speculation or wiccy ponderings).

For example only recently the japanese have perfected in the real world deep sea drilling with a new technique (secret of course) for which they hope to break all existing drilling records breaking through the earths mantle, they dont know what will happen when they drill to the depths proposed, mayhap the world deflates like a pierced baloon.

Is this good musing for cloverfield? you betcha because it is real world and goes beyond the known and understood (in other words a risk to mankind that makes us shudder). When the drilling record is broken and no bad outcome occurs we all cheer in support of the new technology or event. This is the stuff abrams is tapping into. Hell I suspect at some point we might be speculating the results of the 2008 CERN cyclotron tests to prove black holes, could this test generate sufficient n-mass to ignite an underworld monster, there may even be scope for a gamma radiation born green goblin hulk Wink .

Either way I think you might be a little of the mark. But Cthulhu, sorry nope I think that ones off the radar.

Drone actually reminded me to clarify. Kwizzer, your Cthulhu theory has already been disproved. I was complimenting you on the rest, alot like the "awakening" theory that I proposed a month or so ago.

Did somebody say my name?

I guess someone did. Too bad their theory is a little....grammatically incorrect.

CTHULHU- not cthulu . I deserve more respect than this.

My motion picture will eventually come along. I have foreseen it.

Some devoted fans created a silent, black-and-white movie. How creative and modern. Not even a major motion picture. I have foreseen a larger production forthcoming.

The guy who directed Pan's Laberynth and Hellboy just got green light to do Behind the Mountains of Madness, so the day for the green old dude hollywood stardom may not me that much far away.

I've heard that "The Call of Cthulhu" is supposed to be a very well-made film. It's a silent black-and-white film in 1920s style, but I've heard it's top-notch. Pick it up if you're a Lovecraft fan.

I remain, of course, your humble servant, O Dread Cthulhu. Worshippy Worshippy

Further Musings

I was not aware that Cthulhu had been discounted completely, other old gods are apossibilty, I know there was some speculationthat it is a Minotaur or Sphinx. Anniki is another possibiltiy or even what were knowj=n as Titans. As for the deep sea drilling technology there is a real world parallel in what is going on In the Antarctic. The russians are using a hot water drill to get to lakes that have been untouched for what may be hundreds of thousands of years. Wonder what sort of life is in these places. They even move, these lakes, and the pressurtes are similar to deep ocean ridges, wince they are under thousands of feet of ice. Ice, although tehcnically less dense than water, is a solid , so the pressure is greater.

Also, re cloverfield, why do we assume there is only one monster? Obvious ly it has to be big enough to tear up the SOL, but what if there are others, and New York is not the only target. there are hints....
