[SPEC]Colud we have found the Tagruato website before?

First Lurker to Poster conversion...

As we drive ourselves batty trying to decipher clues from the various websites, blogs et al, one thing keeps bugging me.

Was there any possible way we could have found the Tagruato website without seeing the new Menu Card picture on 1-18-08?

I have tried to follow most of the clues and discussions here, but I can't see a way we could have found the Tagruato website without the triple hop of the Menu Card -> "kaitei no mitsu" -> deliciousmacdoob food review.

If you folks can, I will hang my head in shame and revert back to lurker status. But if there is no forehead smacking "damn, it was there all along!" clue in what we had before the Menu Card, maybe we should re-think the way we are going about this thing...

be gentle, I'm a ARGnewb...

I don't think we would've. Searching for Slusho didn't turn up anything in the first few pages connected to Tagurato.

[EDIT] Searching Ganu Yoshida, however, get a link to Tagrauto high up on page two.

welcome to unforum! Congrats on your first post Very Happy

At the time tagruato.jp was found, a few people googled for "tagruato", and nothing came up. Now, however its the first result. This indicates that even google hadn't found the website before we did, so there was no way of googling select keywords. Good question though!
I like the way you think.

I agree, we couldn't have found it before the update.

I unfortunately fail to see the discussion here. All I see is a fact, like: We could not have found the myspace sites before the update to turn around pictures.

So what?

Correct me if I'm wrong, OP, but I think he's hinting that we may have shortcutted our way to the Tagruato discovery.

It *is* a serious stretch to get from a picture of a screaming Japanese chef to a very big expansionist website full of all sorts of clues. I *still* don't follow the argtrail, but I'm glad it happened, and I thank god there's some damn fine Japanese readers on this site (I wonder if JJ had counted on that...?)

IMHO, Tagruato was meant to be discovered slightly later, when the PMs had more time to flesh out the dead links and maybe even set up the YMR and ParafFun sites...

But Unfiction is always one step ahead of the game.

No way Tagruato is found without the picture. It was found exactly when it was supposed to (IMHO).

Picture on 1-18-08 lists "secret ingredient" on back, Google of secret ingredient leads to restaurant review which contains the name Tagruato, Google of Tagruato leads to the site.

This is a specific sequence of events that could not take place without the Japanese chef picture and its secret ingredient on 1-18-08.com.

Ok,

So as I see it, I am not so far off base as to be crazy... This is seeming to take a bit of a pattern (as I am sure that it must be laid out in advance by the ARGmasters - or Puppet Masters). The PMs have a goal for us, and they want us to get as much tantalizing backstory on the movie as possible.

The main clue dispenser, or driver as I call it, for the PMs (as I see it) is 1-18-08. This is where our best leads come from: Picture 2 lead us to Slusho, Picture 5 lead us to the MySpace pages, Picture 6 to Tagruato. I personally think that I tried a google search on every damn word on the Slusho site. Zilch. But after the recipie card, you could do a search for Ganu Yoshida to get Tagruato.

There seems to be another driver site(s) (Slusho7 MySpace and J&T sites) that seem to also be laying down a clue trail.

In my opinion, the Slusho/Tagruato sites are backstory while the Slusho7/J&T sites will hold the "prize" type thingy that we all crave.

I think that these new sites/clues are triggered by the 1-18-08 and J&T updates, i.e. they dont go live 'til the main driver site(s) provides the clue.

This might be rehashing the obvious, but i do see a lot of threads on "the number of thought bubbles from the crab" etc.

Thoughts ? Opinions ? Thorazine perscription offers ?

I think you have it right, Fehdman-Kassad, with one caveat. It seems that with the disclosure/discovery of tagruato.jp, the real ARG has begun in earnest. Previously, there was no ARG to speak of in the sense that there was no "game", just a bunch of unconnected dots. Tagruato lays the foundation for connecting those dots. The most obvious connection is tagruato's call for American marketing specialists to work for Slusho, which almost certainly explains the trip Rob (a marketing major) is making to Japan. Likewise, Tagruato's drilling operations and other ventures seems to be laying a foundation to the monster's origin.

BTW, it's going to cause a lot of confusion if you start using new acronyms; the accepted title of the "ARG-Masters" as you put it, is "Puppet Masters" or PM. The AM/PM thing is bound to make us all dizzy. Also, thorazine is available on the second aisle, to the left, next to the Twinkies.

The 1-18-08 site is designed explicitly for that purpose: gradual dissemination of clues and information through the periodic upload of new pictures.

It allows them to control the timing. There are probably other sites out there that have existed day one, but this site gives them the luxury to prepare everything well in advance, ensure it all works, and at their discretion provide the key when they feel ready.

This also allows them to drag this on as long as they want or need. If all the clues were out there from day one, considering the combined sources plowing through all this we would have solved this ARG in a day.

No problem.

Also, Nighthawk, I agree. 1-18-08 is the on-ramp for the other sites. Other than finding slusho through analysis of the trailer, each thing is being released on their schedule through the pics (which begs the question of whether the other four pics have any clues that we missed--I doubt it). That said, I didn't see anything resembling a game until tagruato.jp was disclosed. Not 100% convinced that there's a game yet, but we're at least at the praecipe of a full-blown game coming online if and when the other tagruato subsidiary sites go golden.
