Andy is NOT dead!

Twenty years ago, when most of you were in diapers, I was stunned to hear that Andy Kaufman had died. I'd watched him on Taxi and SNL and then wrestling and then...he was suddenly gone, without a long emaciated period like we had with Michael Landon or other ailing stars.

For those of you not aware of him then, I have to tell you that everyone - everyone - genuinely thought that he had pulled another of his completely unfunny pranks. (Yes - he DID read The Great Gatsby to an audience. Yes - he DID pile everyone into a bus to get cookies and milk.)

After a while, we began to reluctantly accept that he was dead.

And, of course, we were wrong.

Dang, for a hoaxster, this guy's absent some crucial cojones. He set things up and now is deconstructing his site as things fall apart.

When I posted that intial "rabbit hole", whoever it is that's riding these coattails had posted in that blog an entry saying that he'd paid off snopes to write that on purpose.

Looks like the Mikkelsons must've contacted him and got him to erase the entry. Whoever is trying to do this has made a couple of glaring errors along the way, and is getting caught.

Ah well. Someone had to do it. Just wish they'd done it better.

While I wasn't in diapers, I wasn't allowed to stay up to watch SNL (or, for that matter, Taxi). I was 7.

Too bad it was a hoax though... I thoroughly enjoyed Man In The Moon. And I do watch Taxi on reruns now.
