Paraffin is suspended in Crude Oil, it is a byproduct of oil drilling, so it is another way of raising profits.

Agreed Fehd - their surface motivation is to accrue capital, like all the
subsidiaries, and, individually, to supply a superior quality of
parafin wax that can be utilized in a vast array of applications, but...

What is their secret agenda ??
(ie. what is the wax really used for, etc.)

great posts everyone...

Quote:
"Exploring our world. Ensuring your future."

this phrase keeps coming back to mind...like something almost "obvious" in a sense, almost yelling that they aren't human...

Shouldn't it have been:

"Exploring the world. Ensuring our future."

It has that almost "you're gonna die" appeal to it...and ensuring to me, just in my humble opinion rings more to the effect of "ENSLAVING" vs anything else...

It should have been "Ensuring your future" instead they use our future(Ganu & his evil scientist). Think they want world domination.

Me thinks you got a lil' tongue twisted there for a minute...but I see what
you're tryin' to convey Dal.
Does lend credibility to that nefarious undertone that seems prevalent in
Bad Robot fashion.

Exploring "our" world - Tagruato's world or everybody's world ??
With this innocent statement, Tagruato almost claims ownership of reality
itself, if you let them. Confused

Ensuring "your" future - almost implies that they won't, or aren't, a part
of this impending "future". It's a future developed for us by them...
perhaps they plan to exsist parallel to this "future", in a "future" of their own...

"Exploring our world,"
Says to me that they feel possession of some world, but is it a realm of their own and not so literally something like a different planet? They are exploring the ocean (which actually encompasses most of this planet), does that mean they feel the ocean is their true home?
"Ensuring your future."
This says to me that they are acting upon our futures, as if in some sense of control over it. Basically, they feel they are defining our future - but is it a future we want?

If they were aliens, I'd expect:
"Exploring your world, Ensuring our future."

Guys, what if Ganu and company aren't the bad guys that everyone believes. What if Ganu has actually run across something *Off* before. Wasn't it Ahab, in his quest to defeat the white whale, that actually BECAME said whale. He knew, almost preternaturally, where to look for it, because he was a part of it, and it him. I think if i had caught a glimpse of something lurking deep within the oceans depths, and knew it had destroyed someone i loved, and i had the capitol and manpower to back my quest, i would do everything in my power to track it down. Including cut-throat tactics, developing new armament, and using every resource at my disposal.

Exploring our World, Ensuring your Future.

Against the unknown.....

Yes, but keep in mind that the nature of evil is to live in denial. The road to hell is paved with good intentions; the ends justify the means....all that rot.

So yeah, Ganu probably *meant* well, but so do most bad guys.

But does it sound plausible?

Here we are looking at Ganu and Co. as the possible cause of these events, or at the least a catalyst, but all these folks might really be are sort of a "G-unit" and the petroleum business is a source of working capitol, and a nifty cover for operations all over the world.

If you told the government that you needed untold capitol to combat a monster, you'd be locked up. I'd feel for the guy if he actually had the balls to take a small drink company, build it, and roll the money over into a failing mining and petroleum company. He'd have been on the lookout for the most connected company in his area, with the worst track record, and swooped on them when the chips were down. Sounds like savvy business, not evil.

Actually, there is that article on the Tagruato page entitled "Investing in the Future of Energy" which might be interpreted as reflecting well on the company (in terms of being 'good guys'), but it could also be a bunch of crap, ala Bold Future "ensuring our future." Tagruato wants to be the one to sell people the energy they will need, and while they express some 'concern' for the environment, maximizing returns to their shareholders is still the bottom line (as it should/must be for most corporations, by law).

"Well, not much new there..."
- Rosencrantz (Gary Oldman), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

Still, Ganu Yoshida might not be a 'bad guy' in all this. That's a distinct possibility. I'd like to see it, actually - it would go against the stock/cliche role of the originating scientist we're so used to seeing in monster movies.

Yeah Mel, but how do we KNOW he's the originator?

Noriko found the DSI, apparently, and died for the knowledge. Ganu wanted to know what his mother died for, and followed through. In the process he may have found our monster, and once seeing it, and what it had done to him personally, he reacted like any true hero would. I think, while Slusho! is definitely IG, it is just a by product of what he was originally after.
Revenge.
You look for the enemy, find it, identify it's weakness, and engage it. I think Ganu is riding the white horse in this one. My feeling, Ganu's the hero in this piece. Took a while, but it makes sense in a poetic way.

I only meant "originator" in loose, monster-movie kind of way, i.e., a scientist who is 'closest' to the monster, relative to the rest of the characters, and who can offer some kind of explanation as to why the monster is now killing/eating the rest of the characters.

And, Ganu being a hero: I can totally see that. In fact, I'd like to see it. I'd bet that Ganu is at least more hero than villain in all this. So, I say: YES and AMEN to your proposals, Hurley.
