Well duh.
I think its safe to assume everyone here who thinks Water Bears are a possibility imagines them being 50ft tall or bigger.

Or maybe it's a massive conglomeration of billions and billions of waterbears; like cells, all merging together to create one gigantic water-bear.
Honestly; as much as it is tiny and weird looking, it's really kind of cute in a weird way; and the term "Water Bear" doesn't really strike terror into my very core... rather it really makes me want to hug something.
Oh my god! It's a water-bear! And it's HUGE!

I'm trembling in my boots.
The truth is, they probably don't have a monster in mind at all yet; they'll just wait until a few weeks before the movie is released, hit the 'Random-Monsterizermagig-Renderer button, and little slot machine-like cards will flip and generate the final beast, they'll slap him onto the wire frame, and voila! Flying Libertyhead!

It's kinda cool that the two new buttons on the Slusho! main page are represented by a pig and a bear considering Tardigrades are referred to as water bears and moss piglets.

I really like the whole extremophile idea; one quesiton, though: how do the extremophiles factor in with the process described by Dr. Hiro on the 'day in the life' article (YMR)? At what step in that process are they dealing w/extremophiles? Or, is that 'fermentation' process unrelated to the extremophiles? Just curious (and too lazy to figure out the science behind it on my own right now).

I think that's they are in the "media " refered to.
At work, samples excavated from the ocean floor are brought back to the lab and spread out on a Petri dish containing some 'media': Nutrients for growth that are combined with agar to form a solid surface!
Here is YMR real life counterpart which has the same goals:

WATER/SEA BEARS! Hey, I'm new to unFiction. I just found some definitive proof that water/sea bears exist. Without further ado, I give you...
<a> PROOF!
A few snapshots I took:
<a>
A water bear in alert mode!
<a>
It spotted me. After I took this photograph, I fled to a safe area. Good thing I was wearing my lucky waterbear underwear...

apologies for double post but this is just too funny!
"An interesting side note here is that one of the most active areas of exploring for extremophile microbes is in the skeletons of beached or dead whales in their naturally cold environments. Whales and seals have a very slow decay rate, particularly in polar regions and because of their very thick layers of blubber, also spawn a community of bacteria that breakdown fats. A single whale that had sunk to the bottom of the polar seas was recently recommended for microbial analysis when a Russian rescue mission discovered its presence while on a reconnaissance mission. This find is considered important to developing new kinds of thermally stable enzymes by standing watch both as biologist and vulture in the carcass of naturally decaying polar life."
also on this site was this titbit that made me LMAO!
Geologists are intrigued by how rapidly vent chimneys grow — up to 30 feet (9 meters) in 18 months. A scientist at the University of Washington has been monitoring the growth of "Godzilla," a vent chimney in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Oregon. It reached the height of a 15-story building before it toppled. It is now actively rebuilding.
I kid you notcheck it out here if you dont believe it

Yeah, I mentioned this on another thread but unfortunatly I was the only one who found it remotely interesting. There is a link between whales and extremophiles. When a whale dies it's called a whale fall when it sinks to the ocean floor and becomes it's own little oasis of nutrients for extremophiles for 100s of years.
But I personally think the Slusho! whale reference is for the smallest of the sea creatures becoming the biggest(from a small fish to an enormous whale).

Poster analogy.. Huge Water Bear...and he looks pi$$ed Thought of that water bear pic from earlier when I saw this Red Walrus ...
Connected mirror images offer the likeness of a monstrous water bear ... ferocious even .
Maybe it's one of those you only see if you look hard enough (I saw it right away though)
Ryomi (from uF) posted both of these images awile back...
