Not sure if it goes here or in the Trailer/Pics analysis, but here at least people have mentioned the alleged "earthquake". There was no earthquake and no indication of one; the camera-holder (apparently HUD), just jerked the camera around when the roar sounded and lights flickered. Things get jostled a bit by people being surprised, but there's no indication of any disruption to things in the room when the lights go back on. Everyone looks apprehensive, not just Rob; and he does look out the window and then turns around toward the camera and wipes his forehead. I think there's nothing here.

There's an obvious trembling, and not just from the cameraman's hand. You can hear it too. If I heard a roar that loud and felt a tremble strong enough to shake the building I am in, my first logical thought would be Earthquake. But that'd just be from instinct and what I've been taught. After the initial shock, I'd realize earthquake's don't roar... Wink

edit: Also, car alarms go off. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they go off by being disrupted by movement/physical force? the ground trembling would explain that, too.

Bump

Someone mentioned why wouldn't the drilling platform be attacked first and I thought the following..........

Good point about it maybe attacking the drilling platform if it was disrupted. Maybe it did attack the drilling platform and that is why Rob is arriving to the party late, i don't know if he is but always seemed that way to me, and as some people speculate he "knows something" when the attack happens. Maybe in a meeting about the platform being destroyed there were video transmissions of the "attack/industrial accident" of an unconclusive nature and Tagruato was trying to say industrial accident but Rob saw the video transmissions of "something" not an industrial accident and put two and two together.

Just my theory.

Rob does seem suspicious.

You know after viewing a couple of times, there are some strange emotions going on with Rob once everything starts turning into hell. Like the, "oh my god I cant believe that IT's actually happening. Also, in a movie in the Blair Witch style can have back story told , it just has to be clever about it. Imagine that Rob does know a whole lot more than he lets on. Maybe at some point during this whole attack, he realizes that he and everyone is going to die so he decides to confess everything he knows about the company and the monster on the video camera (sort of like the Blair Witch scene) as evidence to whoever finds it. Just a thought ha. This is my first post though I have been lurking around for a while, you guys are great.

Guilt or disbelief??
Was that a "OMG...ONOZ - it's TRUE" look, or a "Ah $H!TTY - he wunt poesda b here til Tuesday" look?

I have never seen Rob acting Reel, so i cannot critique his acting talent, but that shot of him standing on the roof and HUD(supposed Camera man) goes, "you should have left earlier", the look on his face is one NOT of, "WTF is goin on?", i would say it is more of, "Oh F@#%, what have I done?"

Admittedly, Rob does appear to have some kind of insight into the situation at hand from
the onset of the hysteria. I'm curious if he has a inside source, like Evil Ted, or if he
attains a premonition of sorts somehow.

Is he warned by someone affiliated with Tagruato who he should trust or is he confronted
by that stereotypical doomsayer on your average NYC street (ie. the fella w/ his eyes
sewed shut walkin' around with the END IS NEAR sign)
who seems completely insane?
Is he warned of something so fanciful and grandiose that his logical mind is simply not
willing to buy stock in it until the market spikes? Or does he no gaddam well wazzabout
at go down and just thinks he's got more time than he actually does?

I'm thinking' if he knows anything, it's an inkling…perhaps a dream he had forecasting
the sensational events on the horizon or something he was told by an unreliable source.
Either way, he brushes it off as nonsense. Otherwise why wouldn't he get the hell outta
dodge sooner? Unless he's privy to what's to come and it simply gets there sooner than
it's supposed to.

If he knows anything beforehand about that night ...he didn't even buy into it himself
by the looks of things.

Perhaps he has a dream like in the Slusho history about the creator becoing a whale, but in this dream, the whale turns into a giant monster and destroy's NYC. Laughing

I can't decide whether that look is a look of disbelief associated to the
doubt in a warning that comes true, or if it's a look of involved guilt.
Rob seems like the type that would warn his friends (at least his brother)
of impending doom, even if he had but just a faint knowledge of it.

If he knew, I like to think he would've canceled the trip to Japan and
swapped it out for a spontaneous Slusho! 7 road trip to Myrtle Beach er
suntin'... Crying or Very sad

I am thinking that this is more a case of Rob learning (through his PR job) that something bad/deadly happened at the Chuai drilling station but Tagruato is trying to cover it up or contain it. He is aware of the issue in a general way but figures that the company can keep it under wraps...

He has also probably heard the "roar" from the last broadcast from the station or something like that (audio recoved from the disaster).

PURE SPECULATION HERE: Suppose Rob is in a meeting with some Tagruato higher-ups when the news breaks... he hears/sees/learns about it and is told to be quiet to keep his job. Now he has potentially important information about a possible impending disaster but doesn't tell anyone so he can keep his job and not look like a fool for warning people about something totally unbelievable anyway. How many of you would believe a friend if they ran up to you and told you that a giant, unidentified and unbeleivable mystery creature MIGHT be lose and MIGHT be heading to NYC?

Soon as he hears the Roar at the party, two things go through his mind... "Oh Crap, this is bad" and "I might have just killed myself and my friends by keeping quiet". That would certianly account for the facial expressions and lack of curiosity he displays.

If you knew a big horrible monster was coming to your city... why would you stay?

Like I said before, I'd be stockpiling canned foods and shotguns in Nebraska.

I personally think that when camera guy says to Rob, "Looks like you should have left town earlier," Robs facial expression is more of a sarcastic "yeah right" look

Hey Dave --
It's for this new marketing software my company asked me to test. It's not the full release yet.

This, I believe is possible. I think that Rob either knew something was coming, but didnt know it would come this early. Or he had already planned to leave and was delayed by the party. He did look a bit off, when he says "I dunno im like your main dude". But who knows. Whether or not its a mistake or not, Rob does have a "Crap, its here" look.

I like that idea that his plans were interrupted by the party... if you watch the part when he walks in and everyone yells surprise, he's not exactly excited or thrilled that this is going on; he's more like "ehhhh...thanks?". He seems reluctant to go in and enjoy the party. Also, I think he walks in with some unidentified person.... who is that? Was he responsible for luring Rob over to that place for the party or is he a co-worker?

I think you're supposed to infer that its because he's not a fan of surprise parties, but in light of the discussion above maybe its not that -- maybe he was on his way home to pack and get the hell out of there when all his friends showed up and he's like "Oh well, I guess it won't hurt to have a few drinks, surely this monster can't get from the Chuai station to NYC in a few days".... then we all know what happens. I think that scene supports that theory too.

I like the idea of Rob hearing about or seeing footage of the new platform being attacked, if it's not in the movie it would make a good trailer.

I think if Rob's "involved" directly to the event then he would have got the hell out of dodge beforehand! although if he is indirectly involved and this was semi-unexpected, that could well account for the look of "oh oh!" on his face!

Is it possible ya think for slusho to be a mind altering substance like l.s.d?
If so do ya think that everything is in a big hallucenation and that the marketing software he's working on has somethin to do with it somehow?

Like lil nano bugs in the slusho/sea nectar or somethin that makes you see/hear/smell w/e Tagruato or whoever the villians are want you to.

Doubt it...but it helped me kill a few minutes thinkin it out sorta...

thoughts.....?
